It shows a man with long hair and beard in a long fluted robe with a sash across his left shoulder. In the left hand. He is holding a book and in the right hand, either he has his hand folded under or the fingers are missing. I was told by an art expert that this is most likely a disciple because his head is turned sideways as if he were to be looking at Jesus. I don't know if it could be St. Peter or which one would be associated holding a book. When I bought this statue, it was not mounted but we had it mounted on this wooden platform. It could be just as easily removed if so desired. The color of the wood is a rich blackish brown with a very old aged patina. With the platform, he stands 14.25" high and without the platform, he stands 13.25" high and is 5" wide and 2" deep and he is flat on the back and there is a hole in the middle which makes me think that he was attached to a larger tableau- possibly in a church. San Antonio is very very old antique, the base is not as old as San Antonio but is also old. It stands 20 and a half Inches tall with the base. Stands about 13 and 3/4ths with out the base. It weighs 2.6 kilograms. Most of the photos were taken with a flash and the darker ones are the more realistic photos were taken with a bulb on the ceiling and a bulbon the left side. I have an unusual pair of antique Catholic folk art carvings of Jesus likely circa 1900-1950. Both are in reasonably good condition with some ware including a chip on the back of the bigger one. They look as though they were hung or mounted on an alter or as a decoration as there is a hole for a hook or something. There carved from solid blocks of Cedar. I believe they are called Santos or saint statues. Their each about 17 1/2 inches tall.

Antique Peru Santo Saint Foot Feet LEGS Christ relic wooden church carved
Recently returned from a 2-month trip to Peru. I was there working on a photography project and met incredible people. The trip was expensive for me and so I thought I would bring back some unique items that I was lucky to find during my Peruvian journey in order to help fund the continuation of the project. I paid a fair amount of money for these objects and am selling them for a slight profit. This item up for auction came from a crumbling home in Lima. The house belonged to a dealer of artifacts: mainly pre-Colombian items. Inca and pre-Inca relics, as well as art from Cusco. The man died many years ago, but his son befriended me and gave me access to the house. It was a thrill to go through the home and find fragments of objects. He was happy to sell me anything I wanted in order to fund the repairs that the house needed, which were extensive. ... moreThis pair of legs belonged to a Santo of some sort. Most likely from Northern Peru. But possibly from Cuzco. The man said his best guess was that it was a figure of a Christ child. The legs are attached at the heel by a piece of metal… Probably iron… and it’s really rusty. The legs are wooden, hand-carved, and the paint has virtually all flaked off. I think it’s a stunning piece. I hope you do too! I brought this piece from Peru to Boston personally! Please as any and all questions before bidding.
