ANTIQUE SANTO MASK WOOD SCULPTURE, RARE FORM, 16.75 inches tall
Offered is a rare large hand carved Santo mask sculpture. Most likely made in the 19th century. This mask is very unusual being carved from one piece of wood and includes features of a halo or crown and hands that are praying. It is all hand carved out of natural wood and was not made for tourist trade. It is 16.75 inches tall by 8.25 inches at its widest part. The mask is in very good condition with two wood cracks toward the top of its crown. We are unsure of its origin; it may have been carved in the Taos, New Mexico region or possibly Mexico. The stand is not included. This rare form mask is expertly carved and very collectible.

Vintage carving of St. Jude. Mid 1900's. Probably 1960. South American origin, but country is unknown. Signed on the back with A, which is unusual since these were not often signed. Very nicely carved beard with clear facial features. The robe is also well carved. Statue measures 12" tall and 4 1/4" wide. This piece would make a lovey addition to your collection! Outstanding 15th/16th Century Spanish Carved Wood Santo Sculpture Saint Francis
Superb Late 15th to 16th Century Altar Fragment Entirely hand carved in wood. We can tell it's an altar fragment from the base and side where the Saint Francis must have been attached to a monumental tableau. We purchased him as Spanish. But the work is very, very reminiscent of what was popular in Germany during the period. As you can see from the Creglingen Altar below. He has some old wood-worm damage. But apart from that he's solid and stands up perfectly well. The face is magnificently carved. The piece just screams quality. This is a rare. Antique find from Guerrero, Mexico. It is a very large, intricately detailed, quality, wood carving depicting the" Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción" Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It is estimated to be over 50 years old by the Mexican national that I obtained it from. It is carved of a rich cedar(slightly heavier than pine) with warm tones of brown and gold. It is a solid carved piece. With no interior hollowing. It is carved smooth with no rustic edges like most of the modern carvings. It has amazing detail and skill evident in the beautiful hands, the halo, face, gown, and faces below the gown. She is large, measuring 17" tall by 6 1/2" wide by 5 1/2" deep. Beautiful hand carved Saint Wendelin. From the Philippines. Glass eyes and good paint, which has the chalky appearance of age. Reproduction. 14 1/4" tall and 5 1/4" wide. This beautiful piece will be a great addition to your collection. He is holding a lamb. Th ere is very little definite information about this saint. His earliest biographies(two in Latin and two in German) Did not appear until after 1417. The name"Wendelin" means"wanderer" or"pilgrim" in Old High German. The story as told there is that Wendelin was the son of a Scottish king. After a piously spent youth he secretly left his home on a pilgrimage to Rome. On his way back he settled as a hermit at Westrich in the Diocese of Trier. When a wealthy landowner criticized him for his idle life he entered his service as a herdsman. But later ... morea miracle obliged the landowner to allow him to return to his solitude. Wendelin then established a company of hermits from which sprang the Benedictine Abbey of Tholey in Saarland. He was consecrated abbot about 597. According to the later legends, while Tholey was apparently founded as a collegiate body about 630. Isidore was accustomed to hearing Mass at one of the churches in Madrid. One day, his fellow labourers complained to their master that Isidore was always late for work in the morning. Upon investigation, so runs the legend, the master found Isidore at prayer whilst an angel was doing the ploughing for him. On another occasion. His master saw an angel ploughing on either side of him, so that Isidore's work was equal to that of three of his fellow labourers. A most attractive and inspiring statue of the Catholic Saint- St. Francis. Although I am a Scottish Presbyterian. Being an animal lover, I have a very soft spot in my heart for St. Francis! This carving has great detail and I love the tender expression on the face of St. Francis, as he looks down at the bird on his hand. Another bird perches on his arm. There is a third bird at his feet. A cross hands around his waist and he wears a hooded robe. He has the tonsured head, showing devotion and humility. In very good used condition. Up for auction is a beautiful wood carved Santo of the Virgin Mary and Infant Jesus. It is approximately 6" tall and 1.75" wide at the base. It is in nice vintage condition with the exception of a missing right hand which is a feature not uncommon to statues that are carved from a separate piece of wood. The detailed work on this carving is exquisite. Especially the facial expressions and Virgin Mary's long flowing hair. Since I am not an authority on religious Santos carvings. I am unsure of the age and origin. It looks to be more characteristic of the Philippines carvings than either Spanish or Italian, but that is only my guess. This particular figure looks to be carved of wood. I believe the base is wood with brass overlay. This is the image of the Santo Nino de Cebu. I do not know the age of this but the previous owner said it was in her families as long as she remembers which takes it back to the 1960's however. She believes it had been in the family along with some others of the like, previous to the 1960's era. Huge 29" Vintage Mexican Wood Santo Ex Voto African Saint Martin de Porres
This is a huge. Heavy(nearly 40 pound) carved wood Santo which was hand-carved in Mexico. It depicts St. Martin de Porres, a mulatto, who is considered the patron saint of mixed-race people and inter-racial harmony. The piece is created from very heavy, hard, mesquite wood. There is a beautiful line of tin milagros(miracle) ex voto(offerings) meticulously nailed on the base front. The saint is depicted as a young mulatto friar, wearing the old habit of the Dominican lay brother. His cloak is foil/tin wrapped with gold and black highlights. Depicted holding his traditional broom and rosary, the broom representing his belief that work was sacred now matter how menial. It measures 29" tall by 14" and 10" deep. This was a vintage piece that was brought to me by a Mexican National from San Miguel de Allende Mexico. An AMAZING art ... morepiece for the collector. It is in very good condition with no issues other than there may have been something small in his folded hands at one point. That is no longer there. I cannot tell from looking down into the recessed palm, if it is just a little rough on the carving or if something used to be there- perhaps a small crucifix cross, with which he is often depicted.
