It is carved of wood and inscribed in paint at its base with St Franziskus. The German name for St Francis. Im dating it as 18th century, but it could be earlier or a little later- its a difficult item to date, but it is obviously very old. Up for auction is an antique hand carved wooden statue of the patron Saint for firefighters. Saint Florian, this statue is finely carved with intricate detail. He is depicted holding a flag in his left hand and a bowl pouring water onto a burning castle with his right. St. Florian was originally a Roman soldier and is shown in this attire. This has a finish over a finely grained hardwood, possibly maple. This has experienced some age and has over time from devotion. This statue is in excellent condition. The statue stands 16 inches tall. Coincidentally it was purchased from a german family. And had this statue in their family for generations. It is estimated at 75 yrs old. Antique Gothic Revival German Church Religious Architectural Salvage Sculpture
Pictured here is an Architectural Salvage piece from an old German Cathedral. c1830-1890. This is Station# 4- Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother This station of the Cross is made of beautiful dark wood(possibly walnut) and sculpted fired clay from the Gothic Revival era. The German gold lettering is handpainted on the bottom portion to roughly translate from German to"Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother" This is an original piece and we are offering it in"as is" condition. This is truly a work of art with the flaws and all. The sculpture is finely done with amazing detail. Simply gorgeous. Please note that these is some damage to this piece. The head of St John is missing. Which in my opinion adds some great character, there are pieces of wood missing from the cornice(top) and of course there are some nicks and scratches as ... moreto be expected with a piece this old. There are 2 cut out holes in the back of the piece to make it easy to hang. Will look gorgeous hanging high on a wall. The weight of this piece alone is over 30 pounds. Overall approx. measurements: 19-1/2" Wide x 35" High x 4-1/2" Thick We have not attempted to clean this piece. It has some dust in the low lying areas that can be blown out. Very nice Nativity Figures; a Wise Man and his Camel. Wise Man is 6 1/2" tall. The Camel is 5" long. Antique German Large Framed Religious WAX JESUS w Flowers Under Glass c1880
Offering for your consideration an unusual reliquary/ ex voto devotional of a wax portrait of Jesus. This wonderful example of German Folk Art dates from about 1880. The bust of Christ has hand made paper flowers surrounding the shoulder area. Behind the figure there is a gold paper radiance indicating holiness. The figure is mounted on a vibrantly colorful paper background with a gold paper border on the interior sides of the frame. There is a reverse painted border in scalloped red and gold on the glass front. This is edged in old gold paper. There is blue paper on the back with a small cardboard stand to hold the item in a standing position for display. Please see all photos which are part of the description.
