This bow is in need of repair and restoration. Good Quality Full size(App. 29 inches long) old Violin bow. Bow is made from pernambuco wood. Head has been damaged at some point. Will need a bow repair person to fix this correctly. The bow is marked"Tourte" and has something scribed after that. The frog is missing it's eyes on the side. I believe this is the original frog to this bow. Shipping is $12 in a tube to USA. A fine old pernambuco Violin Bow, very nice condition, size 4/4
U p for auction is this beautifully made 4/4 size violin bow. In very good condition. It does not have a stamp of the maker or country of origin, but I would guess Europe, most likely Germany. The length is 28.75" and there are no cracks or repairs. Round stick. With a very slight bend that could be straightened if needed(see photo) but playable as is. The stick has a lovely rich reddish-brown finish, unblemished, and appears to be pernambuco. There is a small non-structural chip in the wood at the end next to the nut(see photo) It's a flexible and lively stick. The tip and tip plate are in excellent condition. The tip plate is either bone or ivory. Having some visible grain to it. The bow needs to be re-haired, and will make a fine advanced student or semi-professional musician's bow. Antique Violin Bow with great old wood probably Pernambuco circa 1930
Good Quality Full size ANTIQUE Violin bow. Bow is made from old stiff wood. Bow weighs about 52.2 grams without hair. Bow length is exactly 28 11/16 inches from tip to end of bow screw. Frog is original and in nice shape. Stick is in good shape as well with no cracks. The bow is marked"GERMANY" on underside of stick. This will make a very good bow once rehaired. Is a fairly dainty but stiff stick but one that will produce seasoned tones. Should be about 58 grams once haired. I believe this bow was made in Markneukirchen. Germany. Antique Robert Glier Violin Pernambuco Bow Auburt Bridge GSB Wood Coffin Case Up for auction with NO RESERVE is a antique 1800's Robert Glier Violin. Pernambuco wood bow, and GSB coffin case. I believe its full size 4/4 but I'm not sure it measures 23 1/2" long and 8 1/8" wide at widest point. I was told its from 1894 and the case is pat 1888 so that seems to be probable. It is missing one string and probably needs a little TLC it has not been played in years. The wood has some age wear and patina the back has a nice tiger stripe grain it seems to have good sound and be of good quality but I'll leave that to the experts to decide. The inside sticker is marked Robert Glier manufacturer no 1831. Cincinnati 1894. The bow is a pernambuco wood looks similar to high dollar names I've seen on ebay like WE Hill and sons ... morebut its not marked, it has tape on one spot not sure if this is holding it together or if it was just put there to cushion the hold. A very fine quality old pernambuco violin bow branded ALFONS RIEDL. This is a very lovely old bow. The head is very well shaped, the stick is made from very fine grade golden light brown pernambuco wood, octagonal stick, straight, strong, good flexibility. Condition of the stick is very good, there are worn line marks which I have photographed and a 1 inch repaired split to the screw end of the stick, but over all the stick is going to produce a very fine sound quality. The frog and screw are in good working order. One pearl eye missing and slight wear to slide but nothing serious. The bow is old and hasn't been play for some time like all my bows so requires light cleaning, hair, lapping, grip. The shoe is in good order. Measures 74 cms long. Full size and weighs 49 grams. H. R. Pfretzchner Violin Bow Pernambuco Wood 1885-1890 Check out this nice violin bow from what is considered one of the families of premier violin bow makers in Germany. This one does not have the frog with the coat of arms on it that was found on the later product Hermann made. He was not allowed to use the coat of arms until 1901. See the history of how that transpired attached below. From what I have seen online and 35 years of music instrument experience this bow may be an authentic H. R. product. There are those of you out there that know more than I do. So certainly your input is welcomed and appreciated. The finish on this bow still looks great. There is some rosin residue just to the left of the finger guard that I have not attempted to remove. Has an octagonal shaft. I see no cracks or repairs. I have not had the bow authenticated ... moreyet. Taking this violin bow up to Tarisio's in NYC or Oster in Philly to have a look at and get authenticated with a couple other musical pieces I have. If one of you does not acquire it for your collection in the meantime. Here is a short history of the Pfretzchner family that I found on the internet; Hermann Richard Pfretzschner. Son of the bow and string maker Carl Richard Pfretzschner, established 1880 the company H. R. PFRETZSCHNER in Markneukirchen, the bohemian-saxonian"Musikwinkel" where the craft of bowmaking in Germany has its origin. Hermann Richard learned the craft of bowmaking from his father Carl Richard in Markneukirchen. After the finish of his apprenticeship he decided to study the craft of bowmaking in Paris. Where the bowmaking was very high developed at that time. He became 1873 the last pupil of the famous violin- and bowmaker(1798-1875) in Paris. worked after the tradition of the great french master Franz X. Tourte(1747-1835) who gave bows the todays form and used at first time pernambuco wood. This short time of learning should give Hermann Richard new ways of influence for his following life and should influence the whole german bowmaking

Very Nice Quality Full size(Exactly 29 1/8 inches long) old Violin bow. Bow is made from great octagonal Pernambuco that is stiff and will be strong. Will be a good playing bow. The bow is stamped ALBERT HOMA. Probably a Markneukirchen made bow. Stick is good condition. Head needs a new ivory lining but stick and head are in great condition. Great Camber and straight. It weighs 58 grams without hair. Will probably be about 62 or 63 grams. Probably less with a different wrapping if you decided to do this. A rare signed certified Friedrich(Fritz) Meinel cello bow made in Markneukirchen. Germany, C. 1920. A fine cello bow from my private collection. The round stick is made of medium brown pernambuco. The frog is ebony with silver mountings and inlaid pearl eyes. The winding of silk and tinsel and grip of lizard skin both done at Salchow and Sons. The bow is not branded but it is signed Fritz Meinel Markneukirchen on the inside of the pearl slide and authenticated as being made by him. There is a picture of the signature on the certificate- I did not post it here to avoid forgeries. The bow comes with a Certificate of Authenticity by Salchow and Sons and was valued at $4000 by them. It will come with the appraisal done at their shop for $4000. Rare "DEZSO HORVATH" Pernambuco Viola Bow
Listed for auction is a full size. Vintage, pernambuco viola bow stamped"DEZSO HORVATH" The makers' stamp is somewhat faded; light handle wear commensurate with age and professional use. Probably a mid-century bow. I am not familiar with this maker. But perhaps someone else can familiarize me if they know. The Octagonal Pernambuco stick is straight and well cambered. The beautifully figured stick features a translucent varnish of a brown-tinged red-ish hue. The ebony frog is well fitted and fully lined with nickel mounts. The screw. Also nickel, spins smoothly. I buffed and polished these fittings before photographing the bow. The black leather thumb grip is certainly not new but does not display much wear. The winding is sterling silver. The bow weighs 71.8 grams on my scale. The hair is good. And rosined. In my opinion this ... morebow is a truly powerful player. I have set the price conservatively. Questions are welcome before bid. So it will need a new hair job(as all do) The only flaw hat I can see and need to point out is on the frog there is a 1/2" hair line in the ebony wood which will not effect the performance of this bow.

Old/Vintage/Antique 4/4 Pernambuco Emile Dupree Violin/Viola Bow
Stamped- Emile Dupree(two places) In my opinion. Pernambuco wood round stick, silver-nickel mounted. The stick is strong and is excellent for Spiccato(according to my daughter, who plays) There have been no repairs done to the stick or frog that I can see and recently the hair. Grip, wrap, and tip was replaced. The wrap is fine silver and the tip is bone. The stick is absolutely straight in my opinion.
