PAIR OF EMPIRE PERIOD FURNITURE BASES W/ CLAW FEET AS IS
This is a pair of bases that were most likely from an Empire period chest of drawers. They have carved claw feet which as you can see are chipped. They measure 21" deep x 5" high and are 2 1/2" wide on top and 3 1/2" wide across the bottom of the feet. It is available for pick up or can be shipped by Fed Ex ground for 14.80 including insurance. From the estate of a life long collector comes this very rare and wonderful antique. C. 1 830-1840. Salesman sample of an Empire style divan with hand carved detail and inlaid design. Retaining the original stuffing of straw or horsehair. In spectac ular condition for the age of the piece. Structura lly sound and built very well.all of the original old nails are in place without any missing. I do believe that other than the nails used in the wood slats to hold the cushion in place. That the rest of the divan is fitted and pegged. I am unsure if the upholstery is original or was possibly re upholstered later in the 19th c. But, the upholstery is old. Early and in superb condition with the s lightest bit of spotting on some of the red trim. Which is mainly under neath the arms. By pushing down on the cushion. One is abl e to tell that the cont ... moreents are original straw and/or horsehair. Inlaid wood design on all ends and sides. Wood appears to be. And I believe it to be, m a h o gany(but I am no expert in wood) As is normal there is mini mal wear and scuffing to the wood. Also wear around the feet as is shown in photos. Warm. Rich patina. There is a carpenter/ manufacturing mark underneath. I have not been able to determine what it says. Being offered for sale is this lovely Empire Mahogany Cedar Lined Blanket Chest with Removable Tray circa 1900. This large blanket chest was made by and marked: Paine Furniture Co. Boston, MA" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston. Ma in 1835 by Leonard Shearer. In 1835 Boston was a small city, but the furniture industry was rapidly growing and in 1872 Shearer opened an huge Paine Furniture Co. Furniture Center. By 1914 Paine Furniture was operating from a ten-story showroom and factory. This fine blanket chest is executed in mahogany with a wonderful cedar lining that offers a lift out cedar tray. This large chest offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities and features full ebonized Corinthian columns with gold accents at the top and base. Scroll front feet and ball back feet with the original casters intact all ... moreon four feet. This chest measures 28 3/4 inches in height.46 inches wide and 21 inches deep and weighs approximately 75 lbs. The lift our cedar tray measures 40 inches long,16 inches wide and 3 inches deep and features cut-out handles on each end. There are some veneer chips here and there on the lid edge and feet. The top does show surface scratches and a dark ring. Lock is intact but we do not have the key. On the inside of the lid by the lock there is additional wear and scratches around the brass lock and small metal braces have been added at some point in time to the right inside back corner. This chest is a wonderful piece to place at the foot of a bed for storage of blankets and linens and is solid and sturdy enough to be a seating area as well and offers substantial storage with classic style. This is an empire style drop leaf table that was either a salesman display piece or a childs. The table is made of mahogany and is 15 ½ inches high. 20 inches deep, 28 ½ inches across open and 12 ¾ inches across closed. The drawer is dovetailed and the bottom is hand chamfered. The nails are hand made. We believe the table dates to around 1820. It has wear on the top and a scratch on one of the leaves. The leaves work properly. The shipping cost is expensive due to the oversize of the box needed to pack the table.

A straight cut top blends into the rolled front silverware and napkin drawers, curved front linen drawer, and bottom doors that conceal your finest china. The beautifully rolled legs go all the way down the sides for a majestic appearance. Brass knobs match brass key holes on all three drawers that lock away your special things for just the right occasion. One key fits all three drawers and it IS included. That's right, we DO have the original Eagle Lock Co. key! The silverware drawer ... moreis divided into three sections and is lined with the original green velvet. The napkin and linen drawers are not lined. The linen drawers offers tons of space so you can be sure all of your treasured tablecloths will fit. Two doors open on the bottom to reveal a large storage space that is more than adequate for your finest china. On the sides of the buffet you will find more gorgeous Tiger Oak and straight back legs that go from the top to the bottom of the buffet for a strong support. The back is finished with standard plywood and is original to the piece. Originally there was a top for the buffet but I do not have that piece, and to be quite honest I think the piece works much better with today's decor without the top. As you can see in the photos, the finish overall is nice, but it does have some nicks and chips in a few places, as can be expected with a piece that is almost 200 years old. we have for sale two pieces of empire furniture for restoration or painting to make them shabby chic style.they are in a bad state.but still very sturdy.they have been in a basement for a long time.but maybe some one can restore these.i will explain what is going on with each one.the first one is missing the mirror part of the furniture.the veeneer is peeling here and there.the doors are off of it and one is split in two.the drawyers are all there and work good.the back is warped.but the furniture is very strong and sturdy.you can stand on top of it and it would be fine.see all pics.the second one.the veneer on the top is bubbled.we think this one did never have a mirror because it has a decorative piece on the top toward the back.the door are there and the right drawyer on top fell apart but we have all the pieces to the drawyer.the veener ... moreis peeling here and there.see pics.this one is on casters but the casters are a little messed up.they were wooden casters.that one has a label on it that looks like it was made by millers furniture in the rockaways ny. its a shame that these were stored in a basement for a long time so maybe that why they are like this.maybe someone can restore them.we are offering local pick up only.but if the buyer is willing to arrange to have them picked up by a frieght company that would be fine.we can help.and would be here to meet the frieght company.although that may be expensive.i dont know too much about that.but maybe the buyer who wants thes know.
