The gilded gesso molded frame is exquisite, formed flawlessly to create a complex array of blended acanthus foliage making up the entire frame, culminating in the crest with a full floral arrangement over vines and leaves. The apron of each is multi-dimensions of twisted rope, again interlaced with unique floral designs. The acanthus form is favored throughout, represented heavily in the carved handholds, the stiles below the velvet medallion backs of each chair and where the arm supports join the seats. Each piece rests over turned and tapered fluted legs, topped by square-framed applied rosette carvings. It is hard to measure due to the shape, but measures approximately 63" in length from the top to the bottom edge of the cushion. 38" from the floor to the top of the back, and 24" across at the foot base. Please ask for specific items to be measured and I will do my best. Some of the brackets underneath are loose and need to be tightened. There is one spot on the front bottom that needs to be repaired where some of the wicker is broke(see pic) I think a bit of glue will fix this problem. Naturally there are signs of wear for it's age. From the estate of a life long collector comes this very rare and wonderful antique. C. 1 830-1840. Salesman sample of an Empire style divan with hand carved detail and inlaid design. Retaining the original stuffing of straw or horsehair. In spectac ular condition for the age of the piece. Structura lly sound and built very well.all of the original old nails are in place without any missing. I do believe that other than the nails used in the wood slats to hold the cushion in place. That the rest of the divan is fitted and pegged. I am unsure if the upholstery is original or was possibly re upholstered later in the 19th c. But, the upholstery is old. Early and in superb condition with the s lightest bit of spotting on some of the red trim. Which is mainly under neath the arms. By pushing down on the cushion. One is abl e to tell that the cont ... moreents are original straw and/or horsehair. Inlaid wood design on all ends and sides. Wood appears to be. And I believe it to be, m a h o gany(but I am no expert in wood) As is normal there is mini mal wear and scuffing to the wood. Also wear around the feet as is shown in photos. Warm. Rich patina. I might convince her to let me sell the bed also. The lady knew that both pieces were originally from a furniture store in Sheboygan Wisconsin. The couch measures 22 inches by 11 inches by 10 1/2 inches. The leather is considerably worn. But there are no tears or broken pieces. The lady told me that many years ago salesman would travel from store to store with a smaller version of what they were selling. These were easier to carry and was able to sell more items. It is stamped on the bottom#1527 and has the metal face medallion which dates this 1919-1931. Measures: 30” x 19” x 16” High. The ornate legs have‘Hairy Hoof Feet’ and raised carvings with gold accents on the legs and feet. The top is a walnut burl finish that is worn and some veneer is missing. Still a beautiful piece! This reproduction piece is a traditional Hepplewhite style sofa with a camel back design. Single loose down seat, mahogany wood finger-print trim around the top edging and 8 mahogany leg base with finger-print front legs. The frame is constructed of hardwood making this a very heavy sofa. It has eight-way hand tied springs for great comfort when seated. The overall measurements are 77 1/2 inches wide/long, 31 1/2 inches deep and 36 inches high. These pieces are circa 1914 original furnishings from the Davenport Hotel in Spokane Washington. Claimed to be one of the worlds grand hotels. This furniture suite certainly backs up the that claim. When the hotel closed a several years ago some items were sold, the lady who bought these pieces had them very nicely restored. I acquired them when she left the country. RARE ANTIQUE VINTAGE ORIGINAL ART DECO MATCHING MOHAIR SOFA CHAIR FURNITURE SET
This is a beautiful and rare set of vintage mohair furniture. I am not sure of the exact year that they were made but the latest patent date found on the tags of these pieces is 1929. They are comfortable to sit in and are a color that goes well with nearly anything. There is some noticeable wear as one would expect from furniture of this age(some fading in common areas like arm rests. A hole in the back of the chair, a small hole on the top of the sofa) but the steel springs are still good and do not sag. All the mohair and brocade is original and make these beautiful pieces that are getting harder and harder to find. The common areas of wear such as the arm rests could be easily covered with antimacassars if you dont not want to restore these pieces. Antique furniture parts curved sofa, chair ottoman legs solid carved hard wood
These legs came off an antique camel back brocade sofa from the 1930's(or earlier) that I purchased at estate auction yrs ago. It was a very well constructed piece of furniture with hand tied springs. A heavy hard wood frame, and horse hair for the first layer of padding. When I retired it for good. I salvaged these front legs. The back"legs" were actually part of the frame itself, or else I would have saved them as well. They have the original finish on them except for where I used a little denatured alcohol to help identify the wood. I am not positive. But my best guess is that they are mahogany or maybe cherry. They are NOT identical! That was never noticeable when they were on my couch- only when I put them side by side to measure. Upon doing my research. I found out that this style of carving is very complex and can only ... morebe done with one solid piece of wood so it's actually not unusual for them not to be exact duplicates. Original four factory wood screws included- they are flat(square) head- another clue that they are old. Cross head screws weren't used until the later 1930's and after. The back two are 2 3/4" The front 2 corners have 7" right angles and the middle piece is 11 1/2" The back 2 feet are 7" long. There are chips. Cracks and gouges but all in all fairly good shape. All need to be re-doweled. Not sure but I think this is walnut or yellow pine.
