Measurements are 35 1/2 inches in total height at the center back.80 inches in total length arm to arm,seat height of 16 inches, seat depth of 18 inches and seat width of 57 inches, and weighs approximately 115 lbs. The fabric is a vintage replacement deep cranberry velvet and has no holes. Rips or tears or stains but does have a couple of areas where the"nap" of the velvet seems flattened.these are showing up as the darken areas in the pictures on the sofa back center and the arm area. The beautiful cranberry damask fabric appears to have been recently applied and is in excellent condition with no issues we can find. This mid 19th century sofa measures 30 inches in height from the floor to the top of the center back.Total length arm to arm measures 85 3/4 inches, seat width measures 71 inches, seat depth is 18 1/2, total depth from front to back measures 22 3/4 inches and seat height from the floor to the top of the seat measures 17 inches and this sofa weighs approximately 125 lbs. Each end also offers curved crest rails. All three sections have beautifully tufted backs. Open padded arms lead to wonderfully carved hand rest with with incised carving and large drop finials. A shaped seat rail is supported by four turned legs and original brass capped casters. This fantastic sofa does have an old repair to one end which appears to be very sturdy and secure and one rosette at the left end of the sofa has some inlay loss. Thank goodness the repair is there or by today's standards it would have been in the dump and we would have lost this wonderful piece of art~just my opinion. The vintage cream colored fabric does show some ware on one corner and arm and needs a gentle cleaning. Please look closely and enlarge the pictures as all the detail cannot be shown in 12. NY 6414 FRONT 22 Hand written numbers in pencil or red color reads: 63 I am no expert. But I believe this is a healthy piece of millinery history with a handsome patina. As with any old wood piece, there are scratches, scuffs and other blemishes that come with a long journey. My favorite nuances are the faded lettering on the inside sections of the pieces when the mold is separated. The only condition issue that I would like to point out is that somewhere along the line. Antique Empire Faucet cold porcelain handle
I'm no plumber so am uncertain about this metal. No rust so probably nickle over brass? Clearly marked Empire which is probably the manufacturer. 4 3/4 deep to end of faucet. 3 1/2" tall to top of handle straight down to bottom of faucet. the porcelain handle is 3 3/8" long. Most of the chrome has come off revealing the brass. Please ask questions if I am not describing this well. Up for auction is this antique 19th century Empire style heavy footstool. It was reupholstered a few years ago with brown leather and new foam padding. The wood frame has surface scratches. Dents, gauges, chips and abraisive places, but is very sturdy and will still look great with a new coat of stain or oil. It has all four of it's original metal casters with wooden wheels on the underside of each leg. There are a couple of old white paint drip spots on the lether and a little on the frame too. This is a really nice heavy piece. It is hand carved from solid mahogany, no veneer here. It is a claw foot but the claws are very unusual, I have never seen one like this. All I have done to it is clean it up and put on a nice coat of linseed oil which really brings out the rich red mahogany color. Rare 1840s Antique Furniture Salesman Sample Empire Sofa Divan Orig, Stuff Doll
From the estate of a life long collector comes this very rare and wonderful antique. C. 1 830-1840. Salesman sample of an Empire style divan with hand carved detail and inlaid design. Retaining the original stuffing of straw or horsehair. In spectac ular condition for the age of the piece. Structura lly sound and built very well.all of the original old nails are in place without any missing. I do believe that other than the nails used in the wood slats to hold the cushion in place. That the rest of the divan is fitted and pegged. I am unsure if the upholstery is original or was possibly re upholstered later in the 19th c. But, the upholstery is old. Early and in superb condition with the s lightest bit of spotting on some of the red trim. Which is mainly under neath the arms. By pushing down on the cushion. There is a carpenter/ manufacturing mark underneath. I have not been able to determine what it says. This paymaster desk was used to record work hours and pay the staff in cash before the age of income tax. The slanting top has galleries to hold ledgers and journals. Distressed saddle leather in the center panel has an adjustable easel underneath. Drawers and the back of the case are all hand dovetailed. Inner surfaces are hand planed, drawers have oak sides. It has two dovetail drawers with the round mahogany knobs still intact. Tapered and fluted front legs, an H cross-stretcher, and solid mahogany top that has been re-sprayed in our cabinet shop to remove the nicks and dings and to renew the gorgeous grains in the mahogany used. The top is a fluted column ending in a flame finial top, with the original brass threaded rods that hold the molded swivel frame in place, so the mirror can be adjusted up and down. The overall size is 34 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 30 inches high. It is 54 inches high to the top of the mirror. The size of the mirror itself is 27 inches wide by 23 inches high. It’s finished in a medium reddish-brown stain and the mirror has some really charming age and wear marks to it. SquareTrade © AP6.0 This sofa is a n original ca. 1840 American Empire style built from solid Santo Domingo mah ogany moldings with cherry and white pine secondary woods and exquisitely veneered surfaces of bookmatched Santo Domingo crotc h veneer with whole crot ch veneer on lyre faces of arms. The base is constructed of half round and cove pattern all the way around front and sides. Very well formed and veneered. The double cyma-curved crestrail is classic American Empire. Significant positives about this piec e from the perspec tive of an antique f urniture restorer with over 30 years experience show that this piece stands out in at least 3 ways. The original veneering shows no sign of glue failure at all. It is amazin gly intact with very little damage. The finish appears to be original. In excellent condition, and finally, it appears ... moreto have been upholstered only twice- the second time ti me with s taples. Usually on a piece like this. The wood is literally riddled by several reupholsterings with tacks and nails and often requires serious repairs to the wood before it can be upholstered again. It was entirely hand made with the highest levels of craf tsmanship- no cut corners. Hand sawn. Hand planed. In other words, pieces like this are usually worn out and are done over so many times that they're no longer usable. Not this piece. It's one of the best p reser ved p ieces I've ever had in my shop- Golden Eagle Cabinet Shop. Negatives- at 170 years of age. One will want to av oid hard use. The re upholstery could use an application of gimp along the crest rail borders- a normal finishing touch not done yet. I do not know the maker or exact date it was made. This piece is antique and will not be perfect. This buffet measures 55 1/8 inches tall. 61 ¾ inches side to side and 25 3/8 inches front to back.
