Everyone of these type of desks are normally ball and claw foot. Either just in the front or both. This one comes with a bracket foot base and has the period look, just like the country Chippendale ones would. I personally love it so much better than the other style. This desk has been completely and I don't mean half assed or took short cuts here and there, but it has been completely taken apart stripped, sanded, stained all by hand. Then came the talented hand rubbed lacquers that was applied in five to six coats. So, for the next 100 years you will have one carefree gorgeous investment minded antique. Do not gets this confused with those guys out there that just polish or clean up these desk, because we have even completely done the interior which is normally skipped over by others because it is a hard thing to do. It has all the original brass Chippendale hardware on the front. As you open up the breadboard writing surface, automatic extensions come out to support the writing lid and it also exposes a wonderful multi-cubby hole drawer interior with a carved door storage area and two cleverly designed units behind multi turn spindle posts. When I was a kid, my dad always used to hide things in those drawers and it took us years to figure out where he put them. This desk was made by Maddox out of Buffalo, NY that was well known for their high quality and stylish goods. It is simply stunning and is all set to go into the home. It is smaller than usual with an unusual crest on top with floral leaf carving and a dome top molded edge. The double doors are highlighted with brass trim on the hinges and the doors open to reveal a fully adjustable shelf interior. The cylinder is all intact with no splits. The cylinder lid opens to reveal a pull-out writing surface with a red vinyl insert that I don’t believe is original, a simplistic cubbyhole interior and three drawers. It looks like someone made one or two of the drawers as they don’t match up exactly even though they fit and look similar.

Condition: Used Location: Novato, United States I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite ... morelike it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations and was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two ... morepieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. The fall enclosing a good interior with an interesting array of drawers and pigeon holes, arranged around a central cupboard, with the extra feature of having 2 secret drawers. The base is a usual arrangement of two short over three long, fully oak lined drawers which have had the handles replaced, probably more than 100 years ago.Top surface of desk open is 34.5H 40W 27D. Condition: This piece has some age appropriate signs of wear including scratches. Dents& scuffs. One of the small drawers is missing its pull, has a screw instead, and the key on the small cabinet door does not work. Above pair glazed doors divided by unusual inlaid oval and half-oval mullions into individual panes; three interior shelves, lighted/electrified; lower section has line-inlaid and cross-banded fall front opening to writing compartment fitted with two narrow drawers over eight arcaded pigeonholes above eight short drawers, all inlaid, centering inlaid prospect door; baise inset writing surface; two aligned, half-width case drawers over three graduated full-width drawers, all cockbeaded; shaped bracket feet.
