It caught my eye because when ... moreI was a child we had the same painting on our wall. It's a pretty common piece until I turned it around and read the message on the back. The message reads. With love to Makke and Eva from Herb and Jennette Aug 20-1949" I thought that this was an amazing story and it dates the piece accordingly. Kriebel& Bates started marketing this artwork by Warner Sallman in 1940. This is a Lithograph piece on painted wood to preserve the image. The message on the back confirms its age and makes this piece quite spiritual. The story behind the message is endless. All that I know is Herb and Jennette gave this piece to Makke and Eva. Makke and Eva could of been family. A neighbor, friends, or even a couple investigating christianity. Art piece is small at about 7.25" x 5.75" The black paint is worn in some spots but there are no chips or cracks. Image is still shiny. Hardware is on the back for hanging. Please see photos. This listing is for a vintage wood framed lithograph of a head study of Christ. Jesus by Warner Sallman with lithograph by Kreibel& Bates, copyright 1941. The piece is framed in a beige painted wooden frame. Which has some light natural distressing to the paint, which I think just adds to the look. It measures about 18" x 15.5" Including frame. Best of all. This one has a bit of provenance on the back where it is written that the piece was a Mother's Day gift from Nancy on May 8, 1960. CONDITION USED- VINTAGE/ANTIQUE- MINOR WEAR There is a small scratch on the lithograph on the far right side(when viewed) The litho is otherwise in good condition. The frame is solid with just some minor distressing to the beige paint(which in my opinion. Adds rather than detracts from the look) SHIPPING This piece is both large and relatively ... moreheavy.
