History of Flow Blue: Flow Blue pottery and china is one of the most popular. Collectible ceramics in the United States antique market. More than 1500 Flow Blue patterns were produced in Victorian England, Germany, Holland, and the United States. The peak production was from the mid-eighteen hundreds ... moreto the early 1940's. Now it is again popular, but as a collectors' item rather than dinnerware. During the eighteenth century, English potters tried to copy Chinese porcelain, which was immensely popular with the upperclass British. They developed salt-glaze earthenware, which was whiter than other pottery, and which therefore looked more like porcelain.Around 1775, a new technique for decorating pottery called transfer printing was developed in Battersea and by Sadler& Green at Liverpool. In this process, a metal plate, most often copper, was deeply engraved with the desired design. Then paint was rubbed onto the warmed plate and excess paint was cut off with a palette knife. After being cleaned with a cloth called a boss, a piece of tissue-paper was dampened and pressed onto the plate. Next, the paper was lifted from the plate and set carefully onto the plate or other piece of pottery. After the design was rubbed in, the dish was placed in water where the tissue paper floated off, leaving the design. The piece was first heated slightly to dry the paint, then dipped in glaze. The design disappeared then, to reappear after firing. The English potters were all copying

There are approximately 7+ small chips within the raised pattern.and a factory repair on rim. These flaws do not detract from it's beauty! This is not a perfect piece. The pitcher measures 7 7/8" high from the base to the top of the handle and is 8 1/2" wide from the edge of handle to the tip of the spout. There are no chips, cracks, breaks, scratches, or wear marks of any kind. The bottom is marked"Victoria Ware, Ironstone" and the logo is quite blurry. What a pretty piece this is. Being over 150 years old it does have a few issues such as a chip on the spout, one on the bottom and there is a crowsfoot on the bottom which does not affect the use as it holds water and does not leak. 1890 Ironstone Antique Blue and White Faded Pitcher and Basin
1890 antique England antique pitcher. The pitcher has a few chips on it. There are 3 very small chips on the rim of the pitcher. You might be able to see the white specks in the photos. The biggest chip is in the side of the pitcher. You can check that chip out in the pictures as well. It's not too big, some paint might do the trick. The basin has no chips or cracks, but it has some pain spilled in it. You can see the white in the photos, that's the paint. Overall it's not too bad.

This is a VINTAGE ROYAL IRONSTONE CHINA PITCHER. It's about 8" high with blue transfer rose patterns on each side. The transfer on one side is placed lower than the other and has a bit of fading in the center. The pitcher is glazed all over-inside and out. It is also crazed all over. There is one"X" mark that I scanned-it seems to be only in the glaze. Not through to the inside. The handle seems solid and seems to be applied separately. There's a faint seam down the front the back. It's scalloped around the top with a raised pattern along the sides of the top edge. The small mark on the bottom is blue and under the glaze. J. Clementson 1840s Ironstone Blue Transferware Pitcher "Siam" Pattern
This pitcher is about 7" tall to spout. 6-1/4" to rim and was made by J. Clementson Manufacturer of earthenwares at Phoenix and Bell Works. Shelton, Hanley, c. 1839- 64. I date this to the 1840s. It is the"Siam" pattern and it's quite pretty. Overall good antique condition: There is an old chip on the pour. And two hairline on the bottom right above the"foot" of the pitcher- see photos, which are part of the description. Some green and iron red on both sides. Background is medium grey-white. The solid pitcher weighs 1# 4.8oz. It is 7 ¾” high and 5 7/8” spout to handle. Excellent condition for age. No chips. Cracks, fleabites or fading. There is general overall glaze craze. Some mild shading under pour lip. Not nearly as dark as pictures show and not brown, but grey. Under the lip. Left side is a nick or slash ½” accidentally done when the clay was wet…no fault or harm. Top rim around spout has some light rubbed areas.
