FINE PAIR OF WINDOW CORNICE GOLD & EBONIZED WOOD & PLASTER CIRCA 1890
This is the finest pair of window cornices that I have owned in many years. These highly decorative cornices are made of wood and plaster. They are painted a base coat of gold with ebony accents. I bought these to use in my home but they did not fit properly and I did not want to alter them. There was some damage to the plaster that I had repaired. Some of the repair was damaged again when I moved but it is very minor. The black and gold paint needs to be touched up where the repairs were made. The cornices are a good size. They measure 64" long. 8" high, 8" deep on the outside, and 5" deep on the inside. They will need to be wrapped and boxed seperately to ship via UPS so the shipping quote should be doubled. The rod is intact on both. But feels brittle. We moved it a little, but did not want to risk breaking anything. Once these are in place they don't need to adjust, but if you want them to move really well and still be adjustable, you could replace the threaded wood with metal parts. There are some pieces missing. But all could be made by woodworker with basic skills. There are some pieces chipped off the crown and we hae 2 of those pieces, but not all. There is wear to the varnished and painted surface. This is a genuine, Victorian era, window cornice. Still has old hooks and loops in back. Especially striking is that this walnut piece has no less than 3 stain colors! It is in wonderful overall condition. If you simply want it for an over door pediment or cabinet crest, it is flexible for those uses too. The center carving is simply a work of art. Antique wood colonial window door PEDIMENTS - set of 2
Rare. Unusual architectural antiques. VERY hearvy, thick, completely original, mixed woods and veneers. I've never seen any quite like them. We have had them in the last 8 attics hoping to redo an old historical home one day. What can I say? WE are"antique" now and need to pass these treasures on to someone younger who can do them justice in a home. They could be incorporated into other areas, but I imagine were intended to be PEDIMENTS over big windows and/or doors way back when. Please study the photos to see just what you would be getting. They are both quite sturdy. But could use refinishing and reinforcing. Antique Victorian window box valences with female carved heads. They are wood with gesso type material forming decorations. Offering a set of 3 valences(50" wide X 6" deep X 14" tall. They came out of an old Victorian estate in Massachusetts. They are not in perfect condition as there are some medallions missing as well as a several chips in the gold finish. I have most of the missing medallions and the other areas can be restored. These would look fantastic in an old Victorian or Colonial style home. Please rely on photos for cosmetic condition. FABULOUS OLD HEADER This is so yummy and fabulous for your french shabby chic home. Its got great gesso style work and a beautiful cupid in the center. The wood looks very old to me and its definitely not perfect. The left side is missing almost all its gesso and there are some knicks to the front and the right side corner is coming apart ever so slightly. The front for its age is in pretty good condition with only minor gesso loss in areas. Please see close up of photos for condition. Its really old and not perfect but its a beauty. Not sure how you would hang, you will have to add some brackets to get it hung properly, it doesnt come with anything to hang it. However, it does just sit upright if you sit it down, could be attched somehow to wall as a shelf or mantle, or used as a window valance with curtains hanging from it, so many endless ... morepossibilites with this treasure. From our non-smoking home… Wonderful old Window or Door pediment. Made to cover or hang either shades, curtain hardware, or valances. They also are great for putting above a door to hang Porteries to be able to partition off a doorway without a door, either for heat or privacy. This pediment is made with a central floral medallion. With bellflowers or leaves decreasing in size towards the edges. The top has egg-and-dart molding, and the bottom a smaller version. The piece retains its beautiful old gold paint. Now with a beautiful patina. Leave as is, or make it your own. I have cleaned them up a little, but there is still some detail cleaning around the decorative pieces that I’ll leave for the new owner. This and another that I have listed came out of the attic of my grandparents home in Garden City. A beautiful stately stone home. The piece ... morehas been strengthened at some later time with a piece of plywood across the top(also preventing dust on the top of the curtains) and at two places on the inside. It appears from the hardware that these most recently were fitted with roll-up shades. There is a small piece of molding from the right upper side as you are looking at the piece. It measures 44” wide by 5-1/2” deep. And 4-3/4” tall. The inside measurement is just over 40-5/8”
