HUGE. Antique, architectural piece! Salvaged from an old church, where it was an above door transom. Solid oak construction. This is finished and identical on both sides. Completely freestanding if required. There are 3 beveled recessed panels on each side. Inside each triangular recessed panel are raised beveled panels with multi-ridged round medallions. It weighs about 38 LBS, measuring approx. 61 1/4 inches long and just over 22 inches tall. 2 3/4 inches thick. A DRAMATIC piece of gothic architectural salvage! Antique cast iron window grate. Salvaged from an old farmhouse in Harrisburg PA. It was used in the basement as a coal chute since it swings open. It has a nice crisscross design and a cross in the center and is very heavy. It has a handle on one end. The back side opposite of the handle has two holes for hinging it. The grate measures just over 11-5/8 inches wide and is 18-3/4 inches tall without the handle. Including the handle it is 20-1/2 inches tall. The sides are 7/8 inches thick. It was renovated some years ago and stored until now, when in situe it was used as a grille for the extraction system, it sat there for many years and is believed to be from the Edwardian era, it is superb quality and could be made into a real feature in a residential or commercial property. As you see from the pictures the panel and frame were originally all painted in the same colour red. I have had the panel stripped to reveal a truly stunning piece of metal casting, initially I believing it to be cast iron, it is not cast iron but some kind of heavy alloy, it's in absolutely perfect condition and could be refitted as it is, or again mounted in the frame, which is also in excellent condition. These are a pair of antique brass window security grills. They came from a late 19th century. Brick bank building in downtown Kansas City, MO that was demolished in the mid 1970's to make room for urban"progress" Grills are made up of over forty separate pieces. Eighteen hidden screws with many styles of brass work combined in one piece. These are assembled in jigsaw puzzle style with very tight tolerances. Other than the square and square twisted vertical bars which are hollow, all other components are solid. Each weighs 110 lbs. Two spots that previous owners attempted to polish which can be seen in photos. Other than that the finish is the natural verdigris of well over 100 years, probably closer to 120 years. Antique Cast Iron WINDOW GATE Architectural Salvage from Embassy 50+ yrs Garden
These were removed from a fence that was originally around the Brazilian Embassy in Washington D.C. They are estimated to be around 50 years old- AT LEAST. Gorgeous scroll. Because they are Cast Iron- they cannot be welded however they have 6 pre drilled holes and brass screws still intact from where we cut them off the fence. They measure 31.5" x 6.5" They are gorgeous and a piece of history. The toppers from this same fence are also in my listings. Please take a look. HUGE! MINT! Leaded Beveled Glass Church Window Architectural Door Not Stained
80 individual pieces of beveled glass with no cracks or missing pieces! Gigantic. Architectural window/door that was restored and re-framed in the 1970s. that could not have been cheap!Best of all, I also have a matching window available. It is in equally fine condition. As with any stained glass this large it has reinforcement bars on the backside. Center round glass also beveled. Great chance to do something truly unique if the round glass is removed/replaced, who knows the possibilities. HISTORICAL FIND! ESTATE FRESH! From the renovation of the Famous Cable Building in NYC come these VERY old Victorian Era Ornamental gates. Possibly from the roof or windows or fire escape. These came from an estate in CT where the old gentleman was the super at the time of this renovation. with intent to use them after 40 years he is letting them go. MORE INFO: 611-621 Broadway. On the North West corner of Houston Street, facing Houston Street to Mercer Street was designed by the famous McKim, Mead and White firm in 1892. The building is a 9 story 200' by 100' 129' tall structure which was the power plant for the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. Metropolitan Traction Co. Cable car) line on Broadway. Formerly the site of St Thomas Church which burned down in 1851. Was rebuilt and then demolished circa 1890. I have a copy of an 1894 ... moreScribners magazine article on this railway and a Scientific American issue from 1897. With photos and line cuts. I also have several stereo view cards I scanned. One from 1894 and I have one from before the Cable Building was built- St Thomas Church can just about be made out in the distance- both taken from a block South on Broadway at the Metropolitan Hotel. Thus far I have not found one photo or even one article about the actual construction of the BUILDING and I find that very unusual given it was a McKim. Mead and White design, it was a main power plant for a then very new mode of transportation, and the building itself had to have it's foundations dug to an unusual depth- 40 feet in order to isolate the heavy vibrating machinery from the office building itself. It had(4) 1.000 Horse Power steam engines and 18 boilers in the basement, the engines had a 32 foot diameter driving drum and was the largest steam powered plant of it's kind.
