Tiny vintage blue Art Deco St Joan of Arc medal by Lavrillier; a souvenir from her birthplace. Marked FRANCE. This is a little blue faux enamel medal. In a fluted setting, probably made for Saint Joan's canonisation in 1920. The portrait of St Joan is the well-known one by Gaston Lavrillier. Gaston Albert Lavrillier. A famous French medallist, born c.1885 and died 1958) and at the base of the insert are the dates 1412(Joan’s birth) 1429(her death) and 1920(her canonisation. Around the portrait are the words“Ste Jeanne d’Arc PPN” St Joan of Arc pray for us” and the medal is marked FRANCE on the bail. On the reverse are the words“Souvenir de Domremy” Joan’s birthplace) This little medal. Which is in the Art Deco style, is only 1.3 cm high(half an inch) and weighs 1 gm including the jump ring. Antique French Art Nouveau JOAN JEANNE D'ARC pin medal button brooch with shield
An unusual late 19th/early 20thC silvered Joan of Arc medal brooch or stick pin. With her coat of arms. Around the right edge of the portrait is written"Jeanne d'Arc" difficult to see in the photos which don't really do it justice. Joan's head has no halo and she is not referred to as Sainte or even Bienheureuse(blessed) So this would probably have been made prior to her beatification in 1909. On the left is the royal coat of arms given to her by Charles VII of France, containing two fleur-de-lys with a sword between them supporting a crown. Joan wears her battle armour with the fleur de lys on it. The style is Art Nouveau/Belle Epoque and the same portrait can be seen on larger medals of this era. Though I don't know the artist. It has possibly been made from a button. As it looks as if the copper pin has been fixed ... moreinto the shank of the silvered button. The size of the medal or button is just over half an inch across(1.4 cm) the whole item is 6.5 cm in length(just over 2.5 ins) and it weighs 1.8 gm. Very interesting brooch.
