Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. ... moreIt has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part of a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. There is surface wear and loss of glaze but nothing that detracts from its beauty. This piece is still even

Up for Auction is an Antique Brown Ceramic Jug with a Unique Glazing Style.8 Inches Tall The jug glazing is rather unique. As you can see in the photos. T here's a band of no glazing around the top of the jug. Also. The glazing doesn't cover the jug completely. These unglazed areas might be mistaken for damaged areas, such as the mouth of the jug. It looks as though it's chipped, but there's just no glaze on it. You see that"style" all over the jug surface. There are a few minor chips on the jug. One is in the band where there is no glazing, it's about 1/4" wide. The other few chips are tiny. And are on the rim of the base, the largest being 1/8" I just noticed a tiny"ding" on the mouth of the jug. 1800s Little Brown Jug - Dark Glaze - 4 1/2" Tall - Granny's Spring Tonic??
This auction is for a small jug that dates to the 1800s. The little jug has a dark brown glaze and is approx. 4 1/2" tall and 3 3/4" at the widest point. There is a large chip in the spout area. Several hairline cracks and numerous imperfections, but the applied handle looks unscathed. Rare Antique glazed Brown Jug VERY unusal shape 10 inches tall
This jug is a very odd shape. It is about 10 1/2 inches tall and 7 3/4 inches in diameter. My father in law did some research and he came to the conclusion that it was made sometime in the 1700's. I do not see any identifying marks on it. The top of the handle looks like it was molded right in and the bottom part applied. Please check out all of the pictures. Miniature Stoneware Jug 2 Tone Brown Antique 6" Tall x 3" Base Handle Description: For sale is this absolutely charming miniature stoneware jug from my collection. It may be one of the oldest I had. It is a 2 tone jug with a very unsharply defined definition line between the 2 colors. It also has the flaws that came with making a stoneware piece that old that for me only adds to the charm. 2 MINIATURE STONEWARE MERCURY MINER BROWN AND GRAY STONEWARE JUGS 3 1/2" TALL
This is a pair of antique miniature stoneware Mercury Jugs that have also been referred to as Miners jugs. They are brown on top and gray on the lower part and have the word Mercury printed in blue. The jugs measure 3 1/2" tall and 1 3/4" across and are in very good condition with one having ana area of missed brown glaze from the making and the other having a tiny glaze chip on the rim. I don't know the maker of these old jugs but one has a raised shape on the bottom that may or may not be a maker mark. These will weigh 1 pound very well packed. Buyer pays actual shipping only based on zip code and the calculator is set for three different methods so buyer can choose. ROYCROFT Little Brown Jug marked“Roycroft Products Co. East Aurora. NY. and with the Roycroft orb logo. The jug. Which probably originally contained maple syrup, is about 4 ½” high. The jug is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The impressed mark on the bottom is rather weak. But readable in the raking light.

This is a perfect over the shoulder whiskey jug/crock. There is some discoloration in the glaze on the handle like the bottom. Very nice jug great for collector or to make that extra pop in your décor! I find no chips or cracks in this jug/crock.

Antique or vintage Stoneware Jug with handle in very good condition with minor exterior wear and what appears as a crack on the lip is structurally sound and more in the glaze. The glaze has the crackle effect in the finish. The cork was added and is not original to the jug. The jug stand 7" inches tall and 4" diameter at its widest. Vintage Brown & Tan Glazed Top Whiskey Jug Crock W/ Cork Top 9 1/2" Tall
There are no markings on this jug. There is a chip on the bottom and on the neck. Near the handle, see photos. The fourth photo shows a closeup of the top rim which may appear as a chip, however, after close examination, this defect was made in the making of this jug. Stands 9 1/2" tall. The diameter is 5 1/2" across the bottom. There is crazing under the glaze on the bottom portion and a number of poc marks, very crudely made.
