This straight-sided. Circular stoneware jug is wheel-thrown,and jugger-made. the base exhibits a series of concentric looped ridges left by the wire used to cut the clay base off the wheel. The exterior surface is salt-glazed. The neck is quite short and bears a series of encircling embossed ridges intended to help secure the wire for the cork. The jug has a single applied handle which loops from just below the base of the neck to the base of the shoulder. This bottle is in very nice antique condition. The glaze has some discoloration but is in great condition considering the age There are some bits of material that probably were left in the kiln during firing. Measuring 9 1/8" High by 3 3/4" Wide. Across the Base, is this Very Old 19th. century"StoneWare" Beer bottle with the debossing"A.H. WEBSTER" on the conical neck of the bottle. There is some kind of a graphic flower/ paining design or decal, possibly, that would be easily removed. I removed a green felt pad, on the base, and there are traces of the remnants of that on the base. There are NO CRACKS, NO LINES, NO CHIPS, etc. There is a very Old, Pin-point, hardly noticeable flea-bite, on the inside of the Mouth, where it looks like the side of an opener may have caught the Lip. Not Distracting or considered damage. Bottle is Super clean. I have never heard of this Merchant, and wonder if the bottle is listed(in Graci's Book? etc. Nice!

This canteen shaped stoneware 1/2 gallon jug is a very rare piece with 10 or less known to exist. Made by the Whites Pottery. Utica, New York factory for the Utah Liquor Company. Whites Pottery, Utica, NY is famous for their cobalt paddletail and running bird stoneware designs that sell for thousands of dollars. It is salt glazed with cobalt blue. The front has the words"Utah Liquor Company and 167 South Main St" The backside features a scene of three men drinking. Below is more about the canteen and the Utah Liquor Company. One of the most prolific of the Utah liquors firms was the Utah Liquor Company. This firm is first noted in the 1894 in the Salt Lake City Directory. Special thanks to David Emett for contacting me to correct the information of the size of this rare canteen. Pretty sure with the photos you have listed that this jug is a quarter gallon rather that a half gallon. I am not aware of anyone who has actually measured the capacity of the canteens but for over 40 years this size is considered the quart. I already have a set but my two half gallons could be upgraded. Your jug is an exceptional example of this rare piece. The rarity of the quart has held but several other half gallon examples have surfaced. The quart usually brings a higher price than the half. The gallon is still the toughest to get. This would be his for livelihood the next twenty years until he contracted Malaria; after seeing many doctors who would prescribe many different medicines with all having no results. In his book from 1890"Microbes and the Microbe Killer" Radam stated"I swallowed the contents of bottle after bottle until their number became too great to calculation. I took quinine until it failed to have any effect" This is when he began his own journey to cure himself. On September 28 1886 Radam would patent his Microbe Killer. He reportedly began selling his Microbe Killer Elixir at the Dallas State Fair by the jug. In December 13 1887 he secured his trade mark for Microbe Killer. It was a young well clothed business man swinging a club at a skeleton. Radam claimed that the Microbe Killer could cure disease and conquer death. Business was so good by 1888 he had the Koppel Building built on the site where his nursery once was. By 1890 Radam would leave Austin. Old Crockery Boot Leg Jug Stoneware Bottle Clay Folk Art Pottery Jug COOL!!
Up for auction is a very Old American Clay Pottery Jug. I know nothing about Old American Jugs. I think it looks like a Boot Leg bottle. A friend looked at them and I will tell you what he told me. He said that it has an applied handle-you can see the thumb print where it attached to the jug. It is pre 1900 and it is very crude. You can see all of the imperfections under the glaze. Globs of clay, and gouges out of the clay, star hairlines, all under the glaze. You can tell that this is hand thrown. It is so crudely finished. The base is not glazed, it has a nipple in the center with some chips on the edge of the base. Please look at the pictures, they are a very important part of the description. This jug is just under 10 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches across at the base, 1 1/2 inches across at the mouth and 18 3/4 around. An incredible 5 1/2" tall flat neck bottle. The blue color swirling around this piece is wonderful. There are some glazing flaws on the shoulder and neck. Offered is this vintage or antique stoneware bottle with dark reddish-brown glazing. The bottle stands just under 12" high and is approx. 3 1/2" in diameter at the bottom. It has a very interesting incised circular mark containing what looks like Cyrillic or Greek lettering that I have not been able to identify(see next to last photo) The bottle is in very good condition. With no cracks and only one small old chip near the lip. There are numerous small spatters of what looks like cream-colored paint that may be removable but I have not tried. Antique whiskey jug primitive stoneware moonshine bottle crock pottery
Offered for auction is this interesting primitive whiskey jug. This antique has probably seen a lot of use over the years and was probably used to hold moonshine at some point. it has probably seen a lot of partying in it's day. There is a cork in it which has an opening for liquid to pass through. It is dark brown on the top portion and kind of a tan/off white on the bottom portion. Base is a little over 7 inches tall and the entire jug is about 10.5 inches high. Base is approximately 7 inches in diameter. Bottom is slightly concave and has strips of old fabric affixed. There are several chips which are shown in the photos. Common for an item like this. items are sold as is and are represented as in used conditon. Up for sale is this large stoneware bottle. Most likely it contained beer or ginger beer. The bottle is painted in black with the makers name"Grummans Bottling Works So. Norwalk Conn. ESTD 1844" with a large G logo. Registered 24 ozs. It retains the original porcelain and wire stopper with a G and 1844 painted in red. I would date this bottle to 1880 to 1910. The bottle is in excellent condition, there is a tiny flake which is probably a flaw in the making on the back in the base. This is a large heavy bottle weighing 2lbs 8 oz. Antique jug that was converted to a lamp. The jug is a Thaddeus Davids and Company Manufacturing Stationers out of New York City. This was not a whiskey or beer producer but rather made ink. This jug would be used as a refill for ink wells. It has an interesting spout for pouring. The jug is glossy and in great condition. This was converted to a lamp I believe some time recently. The wire was run through the jug via a hole drilled in the side. It has a very large shade that has a different flower on each side. The side is quite nice. The flowers seem to be pasted on. I can ship without the shade to save on shipping cost if you have no need for it. Bottom to top of shade it is 26 1/2" tall. The shade is 14" wide. The jug is 11 1/2" x 6" It weighs about 8 lbs. We are pleased to offer a I.W. Harper Whiskey stoneware jug from Nelson County. Kentucky. The jug once contained whiskey from the Bernheim Distilling Co. of Louisville, KY. It features brown lettering on Cream Color and there is crazing throughout. It touts the fact that the whiskey was awarded by the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exp/1884-1885/New Orleans. I have read that the"I W" initials were borrowed from Isaac's own name. I finally got my computer back in order just in time to offer you two antique beer bottles. This lot includes: 1: Lion Brewery NY 1850s bottle. It is an awesome bottle that features not only an impressed mark but also a beautiful tin glazed orange peal surface. The condition is excellent. There are no chips cracks or crazing. There is a factory fireing pop that is over glazed other than the very middle. The piece is 7.25" tall x 2.75" wide. The bottom is also glazed, I've heard that is a sign of aged pottery. you also get: 1: 2 tone bottle that is 8" tall and 3" wide. Again. The condition is terrific. There is a stamp but it is hard to read, I can only make out a V and an N, it is an oval and in the center of the mark is the number 20.
