Antique Stoneware: Rare L. Kendall Ovoid Jug w/ Cobalt, Chelsea, MA, ca.1840, NR
An uncommon 2Gal. Ovoid Jug from Massachusetts. Ca.1840's. This bears The cobalt-washed stamp of Loammi Kendall, who started a small stoneware manufactory around 1836 in Chelsea, just north of Boston. His production numbers were relatively small and his name is rarely mentioned in discussions of early New England potters(L. Watkins, pp.45-46) This appears to be one of Kendall's earlier Ovoids. The form is not perfect, and the top indented- most likely bottom-stacked in the kiln. The upper and lower handle terminals are primitively brushed with vibrant Cobalt, and there is a wonderful hand-carved stopper that sits perfectly in the spout. This piece has typical manufacturing imperfections(clay scars, stack marks, inclusions, etc. but no post-production flaws! Please see photos for further description and details. Crazing or repairs. This is ca. 1850s-1920s give or take? The neck of the vessel is impressed with an old-style" 3" The lid has a"grip" texture around it. A rubber gasket seal and screws into the top of the jug. It appears to have"+" slots in the top for screwing the lid tight so I'm assuming it held some type of valuable liquid! The lid has an inclusion and some small factory flaws(I can provide more pictures upon request) The jug's about 18" tall. It has a 2-tone brown glaze with a darker goldeny color on the top half with the lid a shade darker. It's beautiful and a very rare find! Antique Douglass Clay Products Co Anomaly 1 Gallon Water Jug-Rare
This is an antique Douglass Clay Product Co 1 gallon water jug. The Douglass Clay Product Co in Los Angeles. CA operated from 1903-1910 when it was bought out by another company, but they continued to make vessels after this time, but apparently under that company's name. The clay products in the LA area were so good due to the exceptionally fine clay found in Southern California. This one has a logo for Douglass that we have not seen anywhere else. The jug also has anomalies that occurred in the manufacturing of the jug, making it doubly unique. There is a small hole in side of jug that someone tried to tape over. I have not removed this tape. There is a chip on top rim, several small chips in bottom edge, few chips on bottom and some coloring is coming off the top rim. The handle has a few small chips. This 2Gal. RI Merchant Jug is a real eye-catcher! I have always assumed that Horseshoes should face upward for Luck. And questioned why Edward Smith, a successful 19thC. Pawtucket Liquor Distributer, would use such a logo on his products. I then realized that the Horseshoe quickly orients itself in the proper manner when its contents are poured! A brilliant design, to say the least. In addition to the stenciled Cobalt Advertising, this Jug is also clearly impressed on the shoulder: F.T. WRIGHT& SON, STONE WARE, TAUNTON, MASS. with the 2Gal. capacity mark just below. I would date this to around 1870, based on the stamp. This listing is for: a salt glaze jug manufactured by the Macomb Pottery Company of Macomb. Ill. They were in business from 1882-1941 so this is a very old piece. This jug is in fair condition. It's quite worn and shows it's age. There are many scrat ches. Chips and some areas where the glaze has come off and is missing(created small holes in the top glaze) The bottom has quite a lot of scratches and chipping. The name is very difficult to read but visible in the right li ghting. There is a crack going up the side of the ju g but doesn't affect it's structure. Rare antique 1863 Albion Cobridge Armorial Jug Wonderful blue salt glazed jug with twisted handle. The coats of arms of Scotland England Ireland and Wales, crowns and Prince of Wales feathers, dating from 1863. It was produced to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Edward. Prince of Wales and Alexandra of Denmark, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The base is stamped' Albion Cobridge' and W.B. for William Brownfield. It measures 5 1/2 inches/ 13.5 cm in height There is a 2 inch repaired crack to the upper rim. And there are two little metal pins, one each side of the handle where the original pewter lid would have been attached. Given its great age. It is in remarkable condition.

For sale is an antique handmade water jug. In excellent condition. There is a stamp on the top handle that reads"Malasa" which is an area in India. This very unique East Indian piece has a spout, a raise up hole for ventilation and a big circular handle at the top, presumably for inserting a pole for easy carrying. Jug is approximately 13" tall by 8.5" wide. There is a mark on the vase that reads"Ming, which was probably put on there afterwards, looks to be written in pencil. Very Rare 1800's Two Handled Salt Glazed Water Jug It stands 9" tall and 6.5" wide. From handle to handle. Around the middle(belly) it measures 18" The clay looks like the clay that was used on the eastern coast in the 1800's. The clay on the east coast is much lighter clay then other parts of the US. The jug is hand thrown piece. They would have put this on a pottery wheel then turned it to produce this look, and instead of cutting the part off that help support it on the wheel, they left it there, finished it off used it as a foot. I am not quite sure the purpose of that, it seems to me a smoother bottom would have been easier, unless they had fashioned a carrier that the bottle sat down in that size. Very Rare Antique I think Red Wing Pottery Dome Top Hand Painted"Little Brown Jug" only it's not brown or Little. The Handle looks to be applied. It has no cracks. Or repairs. It does hae a few chips at the mouth of the jug. on the back base& bottom pictured. And, the paint on the flower is crackling and delicate(must be handled with care) also pictured. I think this jug is ca. 1890s- 1940s give or take, but I'm not 100% sure? The shoulder of the vessel is domed. The jug's 7 1/2" tall again I think it's a one gallon jug. Antique STONEWARE Rare Wide Mouth 19th Century Chocolate Brown Jug
Description: This 19 th century stoneware jug is approx. 7 5/8” high x 6 ½” wide with a 2 ¼” wide mouth. The jug holds approx. 10 cups of liquid to the rim. It was hand thrown and glazed in a chocolate brown. There are no maker’s marks but has the characteristics of an early primitive glazed piece. It was purchased at the Brimfield Antique Market many years ago. The piece has a tight 7/8” line on the lip. A 3/16” chip to the base along with typical flakes and firing pops. Up for bid is a very old salt glaze jug.This jug is in remarkable condition considering it's age.Alot of people like to collect the old redwing salt glaze or the primitive salt glaze jugs.But the old utilitarian ones have a much better history.this jug is that jug.This jug was unearthed at a local strip mining job sight.The young man running the machine after moving tons of dirt noticed a wooden shed buried beneath him,he carefully removed the dirt and inside this underground wooden shed where these salt glaze jugs,he told the others on the job site of his find some where still in tact,and I was given 2,now the law requires that they call someone in the case where they unearth any type of historical items,but this shuts down there job,they didn't want there job shut down and have to miss any work so they salvaged the good ones and ... morekept on working.The guys had no idea what the shed full of jugs was used for some thought a water shed for underground miners this area was common for coal mines.Others thought maybe moonshine jugs hidden from the law.I don't suppose we will ever know if they where for water or whiskey jugs,they are very primitive jugs.They would fit into many decors country primitive even equestrian,it is in good condition no cracks.I f you have any questions please email me and thanks for the look.I will be listing the other one as well.

Has a bluish pearlware type glaze in the crevices. Pitcher is 4-7/16" tall. There is a chipped area on the rim at the handle side. Another smaller chip to the bottom footrim. A Rare 11" Tall Antique Torquay Lidded Redware Onion Bodied Jug
An Antique Torquay Redware Lidded Jug or Decanter. The piece is 11" tall with a 19 1/4" circumference bulbous onion body. At the base of the neck there are raised pin stripe lines. The jug is turned or look like it was. It has a darkened patina and delicate 3/32" thin sides. This beauty has two condition issues. There's a small 3/8"x 1/8" chip in the inside of the rim of the lid. And there's a hairline crack dowm one side of the neck both are pictured, and neither affect it's beauty or functionality. The neck is solid! This piece is in very good condition for it's age. I believe it was made between 1870- 1900, but I'm not 100% on that. I also don't know where it was made. Antique Early American Folk Art Stonewear two handled jug made in the New England area circa 1850-1870's. Very pretty blue color with five flowers Dandelions? painted on each side of the jug. At one time. This jug did have a cork and was used for dandelion wine or some other type of spirit. It measures approximately 7 3/4" tall and 7 1/2" wide. In very good condition considering it's age. Some wear shown on the handles and chip in one of the flowers. Please see photos for any imperfections. I tried to show every angle I could. There are no cracks or signs of restoration. Antique Stoneware jug w/measuring mark rare
This is a very old jug with a decent cork and rare nearing Mark about 1/5 above the bottom of the jug and another half way. It has few minor knicks but overall looks great for its age. The glaze is almost three same color as the Stoneware so the Knicks almost blend in and can't be seen. This piece has been in my family for several generations. I can't say exactly how old this handmade piece is but it has to be more than 100 years old. It stands approximately 10 inches high and is about 20 inches around.

It appears to be made of red terra cotta type pottery with possibly a stoneware handle. It measures 7-5/8" tall. The base is approximately 4" in diameter and the width of the jug is about 5-1/2" wide measuring from ear to ear. Great detail. The jug is in very good condition with no chips. There are a few tiny nicks in the painted finish which shows the red color of the pottery underneath. The inside appears to have a thick glaze to protect it from liquid. I am not an expert on crocks or jugs so I will do my best to describe. I am not sure if this is considered stoneware or pottery. It is very large measuring 14 inches tall and measuring 13 1/2 inches across on the thickest part. It has a bulbous looking shape with a handle towards the top. It is a lite green color and has an unusual swirled design around the entire jug. No makers mark not sure who made it. It has a clay looking bottom. The swirl design on the sides has some tiny pin holes which are tiny spots that didnot get glazed all the way. There is one tiny speck ... morethat a few pinholes are together which makes it look like a tiny hole. It is not a chip it is just a tiny speck that did not get glazed on the top. I enclosed a closeup photo. I looked with a jewlers loupe inside the hole and you can see glaze inside. There is no chips or damage to any part of the jug/crock. Rare 1/2 Gallon Antique Little Brown Beehive Stoneware Crock Moonshine Jug
These 1/2 gallon jugs are pretty scarce and are even harder to find at a reasonable price. This particular little brown jug is about as good as you can get. Antique RARE Five Jacks Whiskey Sour Mash Jug Stoneware Michelson Bro Austin TX
An estate was liquidated at auction and there was quite a collection of jugs. Crocks and stoneware and that is where I got this piece. It does show it's age with chips etc, see pics. This is a pretty rare piece from what I can tell as the last I have been able to find that came along on ebay was several months ago. It sold for over $1,700 but it was in better condition. Regardless I am starting the bidding off low. Inspect pictures to see different chips. The jug stands about 10" 10.25" tall. The diameter of the base is just under 7.25" wide. Early 1900s Antique Stoneware Whiskey Jug w/ a really unique and rare glaze! The yellowish mark on the lower right corner of the jug in the main photo is not a blemish or mark. It is part of the original glaze. There are no cracks or chips and the jug will still hold liquid. There is however some very minor pitting which is for the most part unnoticeable. Antique Super rare and unusual Con 1840 O Tinkham Salt glazed Rootbeer bottle
I discovered this is quite a rare and unusual Salt Glaze stoneware root beer bottle. It is dated 1840 early days. it is made by O Tinkham company. it is unusual to find it in this condition. I do not see any hairlines on the body or chips. It also has a distinctive(beauty mark) I call it, on the front of the bottle. it wasnt damaged, it was made that way. I guarantee this is not a reproduction, you have 14 days to return it for a full refund. If your not satisfied. I did a little quick search about this bottle and I found one that is owned by the new york Historical Society and i dont think theirs is as nice as Mine is. When I looked at it under light sideways, it looks like this piece is hand turned. The measurement is 9 8/16" tall x the bottom diameter is 3" wide.
