This is a 1/2 pint(8oz) McCormick Distilling co Platte Valley 100 proof straight corn whiskey jug from Weston Missouri. It is 5" tall and has the cork. The cork is stuck and might break if you try to remove it. It has the numbers 135-59 11-D-16 on the bottom. If I am not mistaken the 59 number represents the year 1959 but don't hold me to that I could be wrong(I was once) The jug is in good condition with no cracks. Chips, nicks or breaks. Antique Evans Pottery Mini-Jug Advertising Sample Dexter, MO
Evans Pottery was an individually owned pottery manufacturer in Dexter. MO from 1850 through 1942. They specialized in decorative pieces as well as utilitarian items like jugs. Urns, etc. Google“Evans Pottery Dexter Missouri” and you’ll find a few pictures of their primitive operation. This piece appears to be a rough advertising sample. Obviously hand-made, and haphazardly stamped with their pottery stamp on the side of the 2 ¼” tall mini-jug. The Dexter. Missouri portion of the stamp is not complete. The jug has many flaws. Including a crooked handle, excess blobs of clay, uneven hole in top, and many surface rough areas. It appears that it was lightly painted around the neck. But it was not glazed before firing. This is a marvelous example of primitive pottery that will be a great addition to anyone’s collection.
