RARE 19th C. WILLIAM RIDGWAY& CO YELLOW WARE HOUND HANDLE JUG YELLOWARE SIGNED, A rare yellow ware hound handle relief molded hunt jug with mastiffs at the kill of a wild boar on one side and a male Lion attacking a stag on the other. Signed with a rare partial pad mark on the base. England. William Ridgway& Co. Staffordshire ca 1830-1854 This is an early Staffordshire relief molded hunt jug with a yelloware body. This is a rare example in that it is marked with an applied pad mark on the base. The padmark has partially broken off. And it took me a while to figure whose mark it was. I found the mark in"English China and its Marks" by Thomas H. Ormsbee. The mark is in an octagon frame with an anchor and urn. It has W R& Co in a banner below the anchor. The jug is also marked with an impressed asterisk or flower and the ... morenumber 9. The jug measures 6 1/8" high at the tip of the spout and 7" at the top of the hound handle. It is 4 1/2" across the base. The exterior has a matte satiny sheen. While the inside has a clear shiny glaze. The relief decoration is crisp and spectacular. Condition The hound handle has been repaired at the top where the paws meet the rim and near the bottom terminal at the haunches and tail. These repairs must have been done by an amateur. And they could definitely be improved by a professional restorer. Guaranteed authentic, this is truly a rare Ridgway jug and it will enhance any collection of yellowware, or hunt jugs. Hello- This charming bulbous jug is 5 1/2" tall and the same in diameter. It is some kind of stoneware- which looks reddish on the surface. But is also greyish underneath. The glaze is a very shiney black which turns blue where thicker. It is full of metallic bursts in the glaze. The is pure white with a slight uniform crackle which suggests some real age. Legault was born in 1929 and passed away in 1983. Mr. Legault was influenced by the legendary Japanese potter. Shimoaka Tatsuzo, and he dedicated himself to pottery until his premature death. Antique 1830-1840 Early Stoneware Jug Egg-shaped Great Condition Maker Signed
This Morning's Auction has an Early Antique Stoneware Brown Jug(Circa 1830-1840) which was signed possibly by an individual making a few jugs out in his farm or wherever and putting his own name on the few jug or jugs that he made himself for whatever reason. He might have made them for personal use for him or possibly his wife in storing different things in their kitchen or whatever. Back in that era it was common for stores to have their own name on crocks and jugs to display different products of their own. Etc. These type of Stoneware aren't very common, but some still exist and this one is still in good condition with it's egg-shaped design and somewhat crude glaze. If someone should have that name in their lineage going back almost two hundred years it would be a rare find. It's quite hard to make-out the letters, the ... moresingle Letter M could be an H, etc. The PUR is pretty certain and most likely L, but after that it's very unclear. This jug would make a great conversation piece in a collection, either for it's age and shape or for the name. It's about 11 1\4 inches tall and 7 1\2 inches at the widest point. I've taken photos from all directions to help show you what it looks and no damage. As I mentioned it's in terrific condition with no chips or cracks and the glaze fell a little short near the base. This is one really cool old crock. With a great folk art scene painted on it. Signed R. Phillips Dated 64' We assume this means 1964. That's a 49 year old painting on a 120+ year old 2 gallon jug crock. 11" tall x 8" widest with a 3 1/4" opening. That's big enough for a large hand to fit into. At seven 7 pounds, its a nice large piece. The bottom of the crock says in pencil. Mrs. Maphine Loy Paint all around(Mrs. Bloomer as gift) Folks this is folk art at its best. Don't miss the good stuff. Take another look. The art is in really good shape with very minimal scratches. Smudges, dirt, rubs, the worst scratching is above the barn on the tree, and below the barn to the left. The scene is 360' There is is a barn. With a paddle wheel, a boat on a lake, and plenty of trees in a fall setting, and a beautiful sunset ... morethat really brings the whole scene together. Very peacefully and calming. Like a good memory would. The 2 gallon jug is in very good original condition. With tan color spots in the original brown glaze. The jug has minor chipping at the mouth of the jug, and a 1 1/2" x 1/2" chip from the base that has the artists paint on it, so its been there for years. The jug has a wire and wood handle. The wood is chipped. All of these are signs of, a great original piece. No lid or wire lid bale. We pictured the jug with a large 1 gallon jug so you can see that this is a larger than normal sized jug. This type of art was done for people who wanted to remember the farm life of their youth. With art work that brought back the best memories, on a old daily use item. We love this type of art, and you will get a lot of eye traffic on this piece. This painting is perfect for any setting. This is a very cute Heinz Vinegar lamp shaped like a jug. Heinz used vinegar jugs until 1910. It is an oatmeal salt glaze with hand painted blue bands. Label is paper and depicts an old label. It was created by Westerwald Pottery in 1989. As depicted on back of the brochure. Piece is signed. Dated, and stamped with a potter's benchmark; see photos. Gorgeous antique(early 1900's) hand painted cider jug/pitcher signed by the artist! The jug features a beautifully done"strawberries and blossoms" decoration with a gold painted handle and rim with a robins egg blue interior. The piece is signed Grau. It measures 7" tall at the spout and is approximately 7" across at the widest point of the belly. There are no breaks. Chips, cracks, scratches or crazing, however there is some light wear to the gold on the handle.

Salt Glaze Ovoid Crock or Jug, New York, 19th Century Signed Lyons
I am so pleased to offer this wonderful antique ovoid stoneware jar or crock. Finished in a Salt Glaze finish. This crock is in great condition with no cracks or repairs. The applied handle is perfect, which is a rarity for a crock jug of this age. There is one small chip about 1 inch in diameter at the base line. The measurements of this jug are 12 inches tall, 6.75 inches diameter across the base, and circumference around the widest part at the middle is 25.5 inches. The glaze is in perfect condition with firing imperfections. There are some variations in the gray color due to the high mineral content in the soil that occurred during the firing process. This color variation is a rusty shade at the base of this crock. Salt glaze pottery is stoneware with a glaze of glossy, translucent and slightly orange-peel-like texture which was formed ... moreby throwing common salt into the kiln during the higher temperature part of the firing process. Sodium from the salt reacts with silica in the clay body to form a glassy coating of sodium silicate. This crock has a classic ovoid shape and a terrific eye catching look. The term ovoid is used in a broader sense which refers to the shape of an egg. The 3-dimensional version of an oval is called an ovoid. Purchased from an old New York estate. This jug is signed"Lyons" Lyons, New York was a very large stoneware producing area of New York. Many noted and prominent potters are from this area. Lyon's pottery production started around 1822, in a location where the new Erie Canal was to open. The business flourished after the Erie Canal opened with canal boats used to bring in clay from NJ and Long Island and Albany. These boats also delivered finished wares all along the canal. Nice small blue decorated stoneware jug with a fern design. Signed by E.A. Buck& Co, 14 Blackstone Street, Boston, Mass. I think this is a 2 gallon jug, it's 12" high. There are some kiln marks on the front and back(not in the design) and there is some chipping on lip- and it appears to be an old and very professional repair to the jug lip(I had to look hard to see it) and to a chip in the back of jug was repaired(to the left of handle in picture) and to a small filled in chip around bottom of the jug. I do not see any hairlines or cracks. Nice little jug, great display piece and overall nice condition- I have had it a long time and displayed on a shelf, it's a really a nice little signed jug.

It has a gilded. Beaded handle, with more gilding on the top rim. The maker of the porcelain is unknown(not marked) but it is artist signed Annie Mitchell'17. This small cider pitcher or jug is approx. 4 3/4" tall and 6 1/4" from handle to spout. There are a few faint rub marks along the lower body, and a little wear to the gold on the rim, but no wear to the gilded handle. In overall very good condition, there are no chips or cracks. I have the dark shiny brown jug signed E H MERILL&CO MFGD AKRON.O It is approximately 9 1/4" tall and 7" in diameter across the bottom. The opening is approximately l and 1/4" wide. It has a 1/4" spot on the handle where it is lighter in color as if the paint is worn from this area but feel hardly any difference when you rub fingers across this area. Down at the end of the handle is similar area about l/16" where it is similar but a tiny rougher feel. On the lower bottom, about l/4 way back from the signature is what I thought was an additional mark but may be an imperfection, look for this in the picture, and perhaps you will recognize it as an additional mark. The bottom edging shows some scraping along the actual edge from light use but even this isn't very rough to the feel. All in all this is a very. ... moreVery nice example of E H MERILL work. I found my information about E. H. Merill in Akron, Ohio history and it was very interesting. He had his business located in Akron, Ohio under his name during 1835-1847 making the provenance available for this jug.
