500 B.C. Greek Museum Copy Wall Art Plate Hand Painted Terracotta Pottery
Peleus Wrestling With Thetis This vintage terracotta plate(wall hanging) is a replica of a 500 B.C. kylix in the Berlin State Museum. It was hand painted in Greece. The painter's name is on the plate. But I'm not sure of the spelling. I have done a lot of research on this plate, and I have only found one other plate painted by the same artist. This plate also seems to be much older than a lot of other"Hand painted in Greece" terracotta plates found online. Personally, our family has owned this plate since the early 1980s, and it was in its current condition when we obtained it(which, I think, gives the plate a lot of character) Please look at the photos and ask any questions you may have. Below is a photo and information on the original piece painted by Peithinos, circa 500 B.C. About the painting: Peleus wrestles the Nereis ... moreThetis in order to win her as his bride. The lion and serpent represent the metamorphoses of the sea goddess. Trying to escape the hero's grasp. Museum Collection: Antikenmuseen. Berlin, Germany Catalogue No. Berlin F2279 Beazley Archive Number: 200977 Ware: Attic Red Figure Shape: Kylix Painter: Signed by Peithinos Date: ca 500 BC Period: Archaic

Greek Terracotta Nude Eileithyia (Goddess of Childbirth) Statue Figure 8in
I listed this terracotta a few days ago in the Antiquities- Roman catagory for $395. My thought was that the figure represents Venus and was either from Roman Asia Minor or Roman Egypt. A kind ebayer then contacted me and offered the information that the figure actually represents Eileithya. The Greek Goddess of childbirth(the cult of Eileithya originated on Crete and then spread throughout the Greek and eventually Roman worlds. With this information I ended the listing early in order to conduct more research. I found the following: A similar figure to this one appeared on ebay.uk a while ago which the dealer listed as 4th Century BC. There exists another example in the archaelogical museum at Paestum which dates to c500- c450BC and is clearly of high classical style. The details among these three differ. Though the general form and composition ... moreis the same. This figure may be a terracotta votive of late Classical, Hellenistic, or even Roman origin which was based upon a Classical period cult statue dedicated to Eileithya. There is also the possibility that this statue is a grand tour copy, or even a modern copy. Eilithia holds her robe open to reveal her nude body and sculpturally engage the surrounding space. Children cling to her from behind each shoulder. The statue stands approx. 8 1/4in. It is intact and unrepaired with a few minor chips and a larger loss to the figure's hair. There is a small amount of wear to the details and scattered surface deposits along with scattered minor pitting to the surface. From a private CT collection. Said to have been formed in the 1920's. Offered with a $99 opening bid and no reserve as grand tour or modern. I will let ebay experts decide it's exact origins. Please Read Before Bidding: 1) Due to a rash of low feedback bidder non-payers I now require that all bidders with feedback scores of less than 10 contact me before bidding. Ancient Terracotta Greek Heads
This is a lovely Terracotta head 2.25 inches(5.5 cm) tall.1 1/8 inches(2.5 cm) wide, and 1.5 inches(3.5 cm) deep. This is a woman's face with her hair tied up in a bun. The pictures show front, back and both side views. It is not as red as some of my other heads. The side views show the red more predominate then the red looks on the piece itself. The front and back views don't show it quite enough. I believe this is fromthe time period of 4th century BCE to 1 AD. This head and others I am listing were part of my father’s collection. He labelled them and I have done some research on line in an effort to be accurate. I am not an expert so please ask questions or share information with me if you wish. I will accept returns on the heads I am putting up for sale since I have limited knowledge in this area.

Ancient Greek Pottery Lekythos 400 BC Terracotta Oil Pot Museum Quality
Ancient Greek Pottery Lekythos 400 BC terracotta oil pot(relisted because the successful bidder did not pay) This Greek Lekythos was made in the late 4th century BC. Excellent condition. No cracks. Very small chips in the rim of the spout. Museum quality. It has a lattice pattern which is very similar to another Lekythos from the 4th Century BC which was sold from the Charterhouse School Museum. By strange co-incidence the collector of the item being auctioned attended Charterhouse school. A lekythos is a type of Greek pottery used for storing oil. Especially olive oil. It has a narrow body and one handle attached to the neck of the vessel. The lekythos was also used for anointing dead bodies of unmarried men and many lekythoi are found in tombs. It is 14cm high and the main part of the body measures 4.5cm at the widest point. The shoulder ... moreof the vessel is decorated with two concentric black rings. Painted in black. The neck has vertical black lines and the top of the vessel and the spout are also painted in black. The main body is painted with a black lattice design. This piece has been in the same collection in the UK for over 70 years. The item has a collectors'luggage label' attached to the handle(removed for photographs) which states"The Vaughan Collection" Postage and packing: UK Royal Mail 2nd class signed for. Worldwide.
