Vintage Barn Find NOS Small Hand Seeder
Here is one of the neatest little seeders I have ever seen. I would say it is probly from the 50s. I didn't real find it in a barn. It was hanging in an old garden shed. It does not appear to ever have been used. The can is the size of a 1 quart tin can and has a little wire that spins around to keep your seeds stirred. You use your thumb to let the seed down. ANTIQUE HAND SEEDER/PLANTER THE AMERICAN STANDARD Condition Is good to very good showing an operational antique hand seeder/planter. The wooden arm contains stencils of"The American Standard" on the front and"Sheffield MF'G Co. Burr Oak, Mich. U.S.A. and"Patent Oct. 13, 1891& Patent July 25, 1893" on the back. The wood is not broken, split or cracked and the metal mechanics of the hopper work good and smooth. At the bottom of the hopper the metal disc ratchets and drops a seed down the shoot, the spring on the side pushes the foot lever forward and automatically resets for the next seed to be planted. Unusual in that there are five instead of four seed-throwing arms. Action seems normal except that the wear of the gears on the shafts has made them loose and the large gear wobbles. But works. The flow of seed is started by pulling back on the lever on the side of the platform and holding it or locking it in place. All nails and screws used to attach the various parts parts of the seeder to the platform are not authentic vintage. Diameter of seed-throwing plate about 11 inches in diameter. As you can see by the pictures this seeder is in very good condition for its age. Canvas is fully in tact. NO rips or tears. All original paint on wood. Original instruction sheet still attached to bottom of seeder. Original"galvanized steel" sticker still attached. Handle works and gears spin freely. There is some rust on the canvas where the metal adjuster is but other than that it is in overall excellent condition. The unit is 33" tall and is still functional or great to display. This seeder is a Kansas barn fresh find and has not been cleaned or restored. The seeder is great original condition with original red paint and rustic patina(see images) The 6" handle and spinning mechanism turn freely but could use a good cleaning and some oil. The spinning blade is galvanized metal and is stamped"80793" The seeder measures ~ 17" L x 6 1/2" W x 2 1/2" H and weighs 3 lbs, the original seed bag is missing. It has a great rustic patina, aged to perfection and a great accent to a rustic decor. This auction is for an old planter. It has a great industrial steampunk look. It has some great patina and with some oiling of the parts could easily be used again. You would wear this piece with the canvas part going over your neck and the half round part around your belly waist and then turn the handle spraying seeds in front of you as you walk. The canvas area is pretty shot and would need to be replaced but at least some of it is still there to use a template most do not have any of this left. It has some words on it and I think it reads Cahoon Seeds Antrim N.H. New Hampshire. It measures approx. 12 inches wide and 11 inches tall. The main body. Thanks for loo king.
