About the Publication- The Flowering Plants of Great Britain The Flowering Plants of Great Britain was originally published as a three volume set and later changed to The Flowering Plants. Grasses and Ferns of Great Britain. These print(s) are from the original three volume set. The Flowering Plants of Great Britain which I believe was published between 1855-1866. The prints or title sheet are not dated so I can not say for certain. The prints. Or plates, are made by a form of printing called chromolithography. The process involves printing each color individually. The colors are oil-based, and when multiple colors are applied, the outcome is a vibrant print with depth that is similar to a painting. Publisher Frederick Warne& Co. is widely known for their illustrated books. Especially children’s books featuring animals and the outdoors. Condition Each antique print has been professionally flattened. Making it ready for framing, and arrive with an archival acid-free 4-ply board and in a poly sleeve suitable for archival storage. Each print is approximately 6-¼ x 9-⅜ inches. Which is slightly larger than most later Anne Pratt prints, which are smaller at about 5-½ x 9 inches or 4 x 5-¼ inches. Antique 1860 Color Flower Plant Print Anne Pratt Botanical Plate 194 Green
This incredible print is from an 1860 copy of"The Flowering Plants and Ferns of Great Britain" It measures 5 1/2" x 9" and is a nice heavy weight paper that is blank on the back. The drawings are by Anne Pratt. Rendered in block-colored plates and finished by hand. The colors are wonderful and it would be incredible framed either alone or in a group. The scan doesn't really show the beauty of this print! Illustrated on this print: Hornw ort. Nettle One or 2 light foxing spots and slight darkening of paper as would be expected in paper that is almost 151 years old. Scan may be darker than actual print.
