This piece features some of the most desireable design elements from that era. The vertical side supports for the back of the piece have a triple"Birdcage" design. Lots of curliques and a bead and stick pattern in the center back. The piece is really in terrific condition considering it is probably at least 110 years old. Here are the stats: 39" high and wide to the edge of the armrests. The seat is 34.5" wide and 20" deep. The brass capped feet look to have been wrapped in masking tape at some point and the tape was painted white. The wrap on one leg has been repaired and needs a little more material to completed the repair. One piece of wrap is loose and the large curlique on one side is damaged(looks like it was chewed) There are one or two other places where on piece of the wrap has been broken or damaged- but. For the most part, this piece is in excellent, undamaged condition. It has been well cared for and belonged to a couple who were antique dealers for years, it was not kept outside. Beautiful, Hand Carved Rosewood Settee
This is a beautifully hand carved Victorian Settee. It is made in solid rosewood. The dimensions are 58" wide X 45" high X 32" deep. There is a missing front foot. It broke and we lost the pieces. The carvings on this settee are not applied. They are carved into the supporting wood structure. The rose carvings are of exceptional quality and 1.5" thick in places. Late 18th, early 19th c. in the Baroque taste. Extremely ornate carved and pierced crest and legs. Part of a 3 Piece Salon Suite that will be offered this auction. See our other listings. The settee is continental and is from Spain or Portugal. Nicks and chips to wood, fabric is worn, stained and torn. A fantastic work of carved art measuring 48" high, 68" long. Baroque furniture was in vogue during the late 17th Century. Italian baroque architects Gianlorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini had showcased their innovative designs in Rome. By this time, the baroque design was only on the surface of the furniture, but ... morelater towards the last quarter of the century, a lot of changes were introduced into the design. At this time, caryatids and the scroll patterns were introduced. Using the caryatid and scroll patterns in baroque designs means the use of female figures along with scroll-shaped and spiral-turned legs to support the structure of the furniture. By the end of the 17th Century, baroque architecture had been transformed to structures with curved fronts and was first used on wardrobes and chests of drawers. Chairs were designed with high back and rich carvings. Even the cane chairs had high backs with beautifully turned parts in place of the carved areas. These chairs were elegant and exquisite. Being offered for sale is this wonderful Victorian Carved Walnut Settee with Cranberry Red Fabric with a large Carved Grape and Leaf Cluster Crest circa 1875. This is an adorable size settee perfect for that small space. Great at the foot of a bed or nestled in a bay window. This settee measures 39 inches in total height to the top of the carved crest. Total length arm to arm measures 67 inches, seat width of 48 inches, seat depth of 20 1/2 inches and seat height of 17 inches and weighs approximately 70 lbs. The cranberry red velvet fabric is vintage and has no rips or tears but does have a lighter"nap" area on the seat that doesn't seem to be a stain but just a lighter section as if the nap of the fabric is different in that area. 1920's Xtra Long Antique Plank Bottom Settee
This beautiful bench is a generous 71" long 36" high(at back to floor) Seat 21" deep and 18" from floor. Seat is made from one continuous plank of wood. All spindles and arms are in very good condition, no repairs. Normal wear from being used but no issues. Not sure of wood, looks like cherry. It was in the same family since the late 1920's. Lovely antique walnut Rococo Revival settee in a graceful serpentine style. It has beautiful floral and leaf carvings in the center back crest. Along with finger rolls. A floral carving also appears in the center of the seat rail, finished with carvings flowing down along the rail sides of the cabriole legs, ending in claw feet. The arm rests end in a matching claw pattern. The settee is wonderfully upholstered in a cranberry colored Amboise striped velvet. Camera lighting makes the color appear somewhat pinkish; however, the fabric is a true cranberry red. The only thing they agree about is that these two pieces were made by the same hand(person) Whoever reupholstered these(looks like 60's-70's) man is that fabric ugly! I was told that reupholstering does not effect value as it's a very common practice and whoever did it was smart enough to leave the underside all original. The settee and chair are hand carved. Hand inlay with many different woods and with mother of pearl! They have hand carved ball and claw feet and very unique shapes. That more then makes up for ugly fabric. They have a folk art feel and are gorgeous! These photo's don't do the beautiful inlay ... moreor these pieces justice! They have original brass antique nails and"rose-head nails" hand crafted by blacksmiths; which can be identified by irregular. Rose shaped heads. THIS IS FOR LOCAL PICK UP ONLY* Fabulous Victorian Walnut Settee c1870 on casters REUPHOLSTERED WITH UPDATED FABRIC FROM LEE JOFA This is a beautiful Carved Walnut Victorian Oval Medallion tufted Back Settee circa 1870's. it has wonderful wood detail that encases the oval medallion tufted back that extend to the carved roll arm supports. With cabriole styled front legs on casters and carvings at the knees and spade type front feet, with a slightly serpentine carved seat-rail. This settee measures a total height at the back of 35.5 inches. Total length of 53 inches, seat depth of 19 inches and seat height of 15.5 inches and weighs approximately 50 to 60 lbs. The original upholstery was a burgundy velvet fabric but was in poor condition. The replacement fabric is in excellent condition with no holes. Tears, rips or stains. It is in a pale ... moreyellow background with cameo motifs in green, blue& pale pink from a high-end fabric line called Lee Jofa. During Victorian time, the cameo jewelry was a favorite jewelry to wear& the fact that this fabric is covered with cameo pattern is a fun touch to the period. Note that just the cost of fabric and re-upholstery is worth $1200. The tufting is in excellent condition with no buttons missing or loose. The wood is in very good condition as well and does not require any refinishing. The back side is upholstered with the same fabric. This Victorian Walnut settee is solid and very sturdy and is nice and clean and has a beautiful presence all of its own and would be a wonderful addition to any room your home. The condition on these pieces is incredible for their age. Some fading on the wood backs of the chairs is the only flaw(probably due to window exposure through the years) The cushioning velvet seat coverings are in mint condition and appear to be all original to the pieces! Pair of French Provincial Louis XVI Antique Canapé Sofas Probably of Northern European origin One canapé of the period. Late 18th Century Second canapé is a nearly identical copy. Late 19th- early 20th Century Item# 130201HSL27 These are an absolute treasure. A rare find remarkably preserved and executed. They are a Pair of French Provincial Style Painted Antique Canape Sofas. One of the Period and crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century. The other a nearly perfect copy of the first, probably executed during the late 19th to early 20th Century. Any craftsman can attest to the sheer difficulty of what was undertaken in crafting a copy of the original canape, a complex and incredibly time consuming endeavor that was certainly a commissioned project with a skilled cabinetmaker. Without any of the original drawings ... moreor schematics, the craftsman would literally have to measure every carving, build special tracks to lathe the molding, find woods that would adequately support the later"patination" and carve all aspects entirely by hand. The construction is identical to the period canapé. Including the placement of pegs to complete the tenon-mortised joints along the apron and frame. The results of this care are self evident. A very handsome and rare pair of antique canapé sofas in simply gorgeous condition. Both have a fine blend of teal. Cream and grey painted surfaces, flowing smoothly with the cream and light green diamond upholstery. The down-stuffed cushions are thick and comfortable with wonderful dimensions for the seating area that are quite supportive. The crest and apron of both sofas feature a somewhat unusual twisted and flowing ribbon tied in bows, the knees above each leg a deep inset rosette carving of floral inspiration, the legs broadly fluted, tapering and square in profile with upright bellflower carvings. This is a pair of antique canapé sofas you will never see again. A rare find as a pair and in a condition that is above reproach. Entirely crafted
