We are pleased to offer this incredible. Very large. Pair of antique andirons. Dating to the early 1900s, this pair is crafted in the Arts and Crafts, Mission fashion and era. The pair have a nautical theme and feature a large, Spanish galleon or clipper ship as their focal point. This exceptional and exquisite pair are a combination of iron and bronze/brass. The top section of the andirions are iron and feature the large ship medallion inside the outer frame. A large, detailed leaf is the top finial. The center columns are a barley twist design in an enameled/oiled type finish. They are bronze or brass as a magnet will not adhere to this section. The legs and feet are thick, forged iron as are the long, attached firedogs. This is a very rare pair with wonderful design and character. They are in very good condition for their age. I found these old cast iron dachshund andiron/ firedogs at an estate sale in the far back corner buried in a garage. Great pieces that you won't see too often. They do have some rust and corrosion as you can see in the pictures. One of the dogs has a broken tail. Which is a bummer, but it you wanted to use these that is the end that would be in the fire so you wouldn't notice it. These pieces are very heavy for their size weighing a combined weight of 57lbs. This is a stunning pair of gothic cast iron fireplace andirons. They have a great patina from age and are made from very thick heavy iron. They have a stylized design and finial. On inside is imprinted: BURR CHROMIUM 100" which I believe describes metal that was initially used(1910-1920) to label the iron/steel mixture that helped to prevent corrosion. The back legs are also made from cast iron. They still work great and are in very good condition(slight rust on inside and back legs) One of the back leg supports is bent a bit(please see pics) Each measure 18 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 19 inches back to front. In need of a good cleaning and a little TLC This fantastic and very early pair of cast iron owl andirons do have cracks in each of the four eyes but all are original to the piece. They can easily be repaired or replaced. Also one of the feet for making them stand upright is missing, otherwise the overall condition is still quite good for their age, and these can be restored quite easily and inexpensively. Each measures roughly 13 3/4" tall by 8 1/2" wide at the base and roughly 17" deep. Save a ton off retail and do the restoration work yourself, to make sure you get exactly the design you want! Nice pair of antique cast iron owl fireplace andirons with clear glass eyes. they have old silver paint on the front and old white paint on the back. They are a genuine antique pair very old and not perfect. They both have some surface rust. One has a small chip on the ear and a small hole just above the right foot, the other has a small hole on the right ear and the stand has been replaced and welded to the owl body this repair is solid and strong. These do show definite signs of wear with nicks. Scratches, rust and discolored spots as expected. I could not find any makers name, but I did find the numbers 1919 which may be the date on the underside of the back rods. These measure approx. 18"H x 8 1/4" across at widest point x 18 1/2" D from front to end of back rod piece. One of the back rods is a little loose and moves back and forth-the bolt may just need to be tightened, not sure. These are very dusty and dirty and will need cleaned when received.
