Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. We are uncertain as to the material, but it appears to be thickly-metal-plated, and may be wood under the plating. It is about 3-1/2" diameter, 3-1/2" tall, plus the 2-7/8" bolt. There are three or four cracks at the base; we do not consider them serious issues. And consider them normal for the age and use of this item. The most serious crack can be seen in photos 2 and 5. Antique Pair 2 of Acorn or Pinecone Brass Bronze Newel Post Cap Finials Germany
This pair is 3 1/2" high. not counting the screw) 2 1/2" across center, 6 3/4" around middle of acorn or pinecone. Screw is 1 1/4" all the way into the cap, about 1" extends beyond edge of cap. Marked Germany on each. They weigh 9.5oz each. Solid brass or bronze, a magnet does not stick, but it does to the screw part. There is some rust on the underside as shown. These would have many uses, great on a newel post, or a broken pediment on a secretary or chest or bed, on the top of bed posts. The possibilities are endless. I don't really know what to call them, acorns, pinecones, pineapples, or artichokes. LOL just threw that last one in for laughs. Just drill a pilot hole and screw it in. Beautiful old Diamond-Cut Crystal newel post finial This would be worthy of the finest home. It is about 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" including the bronze base.The inside of the bronze base is threaded. Many of these Baccarat Finial bases crack with age.But this one is not cracked. It doe's have tiny scratces and inclusions that are only visible on close inspection.This is a 100% Authentic item.It is not a modern re-make. It was made by Baccarat in France.I do not have the part of the base that screws to the Newel post,but I understand that reproductions are available.I have owned this wonderful piece of crystal for many years.When I bought it in New Orleans at an estate sale I was told that it came from a Victorian Era Hotel. Shiny Brass SWAN Newel Post Finial Tops or Bookends
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for bids: pair of shiny brass swans which I believe were designed as newel(staircase) post tops. The swans measure approximately 6.5 inches tall; the square bases measure 2.5 inches square. The center bottoms of the bases have a ¼ inch threaded hole as shown. The top is also a finial and can be removed to show a threaded rod. I suppose these swans could also be used as bookends. There is some discoloration on the metal on each piece; one is at the top curve of the wing; another is along the back edge of the wing as shown. Both are in very good pre-owned condition. Each swan weighs almost 2 pounds each but both will fit in a 2 pound regional box to save on shipping.

This is a superbly cut crystal newel post with ornate brass or bronze hardware. The newel post has been mounted on a white marble base. The post including the marble base is 6 1/8 inches high. The crystal post itself is 2 inches in diameter. It is extremely well cut and may be baccarat but we cannot find a signature. There are some tiny chips. Please see photos for details.

This is a antique pine finial or newel post top in as found condition. It measures aprox. 10" high x 5" in diameter. It has a old finish that is somewhat worn as you can see in the pictures.
