Penn Antique Restoration. 34"x81"x1.75" Antique Stripped Pine Door w/ 5 Raised Panels. Charming. Antique door salvaged from an old home in Southeastern Minnesota. The door is made of solid white pine and has 5 raised panels on both sides. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Hardware: Aside from a mortise lock. ... moreThe door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: We acquired the door already stripped. Whomever did the work. Did a good job and removed most of the paint and stain. As you could see from the photos, they let the door get wet, and there are water stains. However, the stains are purely superficial and will be removed after a few minutes of sanding. There are minor cosmetic blemishes from top to bottom. Including chips along the edges, a broken/missing portion of wood directly above the top hinge mortise, a small broken/missing portion of wood from the bottom edge of the door on the interior side, and a couple of dents or tiny broken portions near the panels(see photos) However, the door is quite strong, sturdy, and in good overall condition. Most of the scrapes, scratches, and nail holes would be removed by sanding and/or filled with putty during the preparation phase prior to staining and finishing, or concealed once painted. Vertical, rectangular channels in the corners of the lock stile, on the interior side of one of the doors are actually mortises for flushbolts( the locking mechanisms installed on one of the doors in a pair. The door has a solid oak core covered with 1/16" oak veneers. This door features a different type of raised panel on each side! We are unable to determine the exact type of oak veneer used on the interior side until we remove the paint. However. We do know that the veneer on the exterior side is quarter sawn oak. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/16" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir, and is finished on one side and painted blue on the other. There are 5 raised panels on both sides of the door. Notice the chamfered(routed) edges with lark's tongue detail bordering every panel-what great Victorian style details! The door was converted at some point into a"swinging door. which means that it was installed with a spring-loaded, pivot hinge installed in it's bottom corner, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The door no longer has it's pivot hinge or push plates. However, just because it was used as a swinging door, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded ... moresides and trim the door to 30"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to widen it to 32" or wider. The hinges are not a complete set. One is missing one half. The glass knobs are very stricking. They are a complete set of knobs with one on each side of the door. The paint is in vintage shape for its age. You will see some scuffs and scrapes on the one side and the other has the bottom four panels down a different color.
