Offering a mid 1900s mortise lock set. Two backplates. Mortise lock and handles. Made of pressed steel with brass plating. The mortise lock box is aluminum. The catch and lock mechanism are cast iron with brass plating. The handle catch can be reversed, for use on right or left hand opening doors. This has a great return spring on the handle, working skelton key deadbolt(no key) MEASUREMENTS: The backplates are 2 1/4" x 7" The locks face plate is 5 1/4" long x 7/8" wide. The lock is 3 1/4" deep from face. 3 1/2" tall, 1/2" thick. The handle opening sets back 2 3/8" from face plate to handle center. The top of key hole is 2" below the center of the handle opening. Old. Original, and complete door knob set. There is no maker's mark. Made of steel with brass finish, this set appears to have been unused, but has some tarnish spots and light scratches. Beautiful Post Office Door Knobs & Backplates Bronze Brass Federal U.S. Eagle
Offered for auction is a beautiful set(2 knobs and 2 back plates) of antique cast bronze or brass door knobs and backplates reclaimed from the Old Post Office and Clock Tower in Washington DC. Located at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. The building was constructed between 1892-1899, and served as the Washington DC Post Office from 1899 through 1914. This building has since been renamed the Nancy Hanks Center. This hardware is also used on at least two doors(possibly more) in the Smithsonian National Postal Museum which is located on the lower level of the Historic Post Office Building. Which served as the Washington DC Post Office from 1914 through 1986. Be sure to look at the picture posted of this hardware that is in use today as part of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.this is the real deal.100% authentic and old. This is a lot of 12(6 sets) rare vintage glass door knobs. 11 backplates, and 8 keyhole covers. Some of them have a slight variance in color, patina, condition, or design but are very close to matching. They knobs are a beautiful classic design and come with all of their screws. They have some minor wear(scuffs, paint, light surface scratch) but are in nice overall condition. They certainly will make a truly unique and elegant addition to any home. This auction is for a Lot of Vintage Victorian Crystal 8 Sided Octogon Glass Door Knobs. Shafts, Backplates + Small Glass Drawer Pull Knob. They are in fair used condition. Have light dirt, paint residue, ware, and scrathches throughout. Glass is smooth on all. All do have at least one small chip to one of their edges. One does have damage with small cracking to glass at base. All door knob centers have octogon outline and could you could most likely get one decent set out of them, while the drawer pull knob has a design that looks like a flower/daisy. Pull has a couple very small chips to side, and one to center, pin head size. Brass at base all shows ware, scratches, and discoloring. 2 Shafts are intact, one has holes at each end other is solid with screw threads. 5 Backplates show ware, discoloring, and paint residue. They have mercury mirrored centres which still retain all of their amazing sparkle(slight dulling in places) Each knob measures 5cm(2" wide and will project 6cm(2 1/4" from the door. Each back plate measures 5.5cm(2 1/4" wide. They can be used with mortise. Or rim locks(only one back plate required) We can also send them with two bolts to use on wardrobe or cupboard doors instead- please email when ordering. The shanks are solid brass and have been left uncleaned. But will polish up beautifully if that's the look that you prefer.
