There is a name and year written on the bottom of the desk, but it is very faint and can only be seen while hold the desk at a certain angle to the light. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. The rest of the writing, I believe would be where the owner lived and the year is much fainter. It looks like Maggie C Farr(something) something) 1876 or 1896. The box measures about 11 ¼” x 7 3/4” x 3 ½” closed) Opened and lying flat the desk measures about 16” long. The inside bottom felt writing surface that lifts up is tight and strong while the top felt writing surface that lifts up is wiggly, but still very much intact. Very nice old lap desk. With a coloured lacquered wood floral design to the top and finished ... morewith a tassel. The top has the most lovely design of flowers and outlining in coloured and textured pyrography- where the wood was decorated with hot tools to produce a raised and textured effect. This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I feel this would be best suited to thin string, thread or twine, as shown in the picture- and will be included with the box- rather than thick string. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Up for auction here is a fantastic antique 19th century wooden sewing box. It is dated 1880 on the bottom. It had tambour doors on it. But one of the doors is missing. The other door is missing the knob. The top is a little loose. Other than those issues, it's in very nice condition. These with the tambour doors are extremely hard to find. I don't see any chips or other damage. Normal signs of wear for a piece of this age. Finish is original and very rich. Measures 11 3/8" tall x 8 3/4" wide x 4 3/4" deep. Guaranteed authentic. Antique Vintage Cast Iron And Wood School Desk Book End's teacher
These great vintage bookends by Enesco are in the style of antique school desks and are made of wood and cast iron. Little red& green painted wooden books titled. Writing, Reading, Arithmetic& History" are attached to the desk backs. The books. Base and desk tops are made of wood and the desk legs are made of ornamental cast iron. The desk tops are inscribed with"School Daze, tic-tac-toe, and little heart markings. They each have a little black ink bottle, an apple is on the right bookend on the top surface. Each bookend measures 4.75" long x 4.25" wide and stands 5.50" tall. They're heavy enough to securely hold several standing books. Circa late 1970's. Condition is very good. Nice large wooden desk. 60” x 34” height 29.5" It has lots of storage space—six drawers—and two pull-outs for extra surface area. The base pedestals are weighted and detachable. The desk. Which originally belonged to a physician in Lorain, OH, is probably from the 1930s. The surface has some wear and stains. It would look great with some refinishing. This Secretary Desk was purchased in New York@ the end of the 19th Century and was passed down from my great great Grandmother finally to me. I couldn’t find any specific maker or label anywhere. But I just might not know where to look. It’s in pretty good overall condition considering its age. My Grandmother said it was from 1897( 115 years old) She died in 1982 and I have had it since. There is one portion near the top edge( second to last pic) which must have come off when I moved last year, but it seems nominal and the repair should be straight forward. I was able to simply hide this in a right side corner configuration and it was not really noticeable unless you were looking for it. Antique School Desk and Chair Adjustable Metal Legs Wood Top Kenney & Wolkins
Charming antique school desk and chair. Made by Kenney Bros. and Wolkins of Boston. MA, this set has nuts in the supports to allow for each piece to have its height adjusted. The legs of the desk and pedestal of the chair are black painted metal and have holes for securing them to the floor. The desk top and seat of the chair look like they are made of maple. The inside of the desk has been painted a soft green color and there is a hole in the desk top for holding an inkwell. This desk dates from sometime between 1902(when Kenney Bros. and Wolkins merged) and 1930, which is when the company changed its name and discontinued furniture making. The desk and chair are both in very good condition. Although these pieces were obviously put to their intended use. There is some wear to the surfaces, including marks on the desk top and edge and a gouge ... morenear the top of the desk. See pictures. It also looks like an industrous student carved their initials in the side of the desk. There is also some hairline separation to the seat of the chair at the back. Unsure if the height adjustment is functional- it has been many years since it was used and may need some TLC. Otherwise no damage or repairs. The desk top is 24" long and 18" wide and at its pictured height the desk stands 29" tall. The chair is 16" wide and has a seat that is 13 1/4" deep. It stands 30" tall at its current height. First of all this piece stands 48 high x 43 wide x 21 deep This piece is heads and shoulders above any other"Butler's desks" that I and others have personally even. The piece id very old, early 1800's when the holes for the hardware were carved in, and the other tool markings are just as primitive, although the workmanship is fantastic. On this piece, the veneer is all in really great shape! Ther'es no\bubbling, or chipping like you would see in much later pieces. even veneer piece made as late as the 1970's have shown tremendous damage from wear ... moreor even daily polishing. The set up for this piece is like this; Two side by side drawers across the very top, then, one single oversized drawer front, which opens and"drops down" to act as a writing surface, by first pulling the entire panel straight out like a drawer, then pressing both buttons in on the spring loaded latch located on both ends of the panel) exposing all the little compartments and drawers inside, and the backside of the front panel which drops down has a soft, recessed fabric on it for writing which has been left in the original worn condition for the antique value. It is all wood except for pulls, which look like bakelite. It is 6 3/4" wide, 4 1/2" deep, and 3 1/2" tall. It has inlaid veneer, three drawers. Veneer is cracked on the back and bottom is a little warped. A cute little piece- good scale to use with an 8" doll such as a Ginny Doll.

New lowered reserve- This Secretary Desk was purchased in New York@ the end of the 19th Century and was passed down from my great great Grandmother finally to me. I couldn’t find any specific maker or label anywhere. But I just might not know where to look. It’s in pretty good overall condition considering its age. My Grandmother said it was from 1897( 115 years old) She died in 1982 and I have had it since. There is one portion near the top edge( 3rd from last pic) which must have come off when I moved last year, but it seems nominal and the repair should be straight forward. I was able to simply hide this in a right side corner configuration and it was not really noticeable looking at it from the left side or straight on, only unless you were looking from the right. The secretary does have a locking key. It measures@ 73” high X 29“ wide ... moreX 17” Deep. Overall the wood is in very decent condition given its age and it seems to be an extremely well made piece, like many from this time frame. Antique Dark Wood One Drawer Writing Desk
This is a beautiful hand made wood writing desk/ console table. The wood appears too be oak but it has had a dark stain applied making it hard to tell for sure. The stain appears to have been applied a long time ago and really does bring out the grain and gives the table a gorgeous dark color. Hand made. The craftsmanship is awesome. The one drawer has the original, very ornate drawer pull that appears to be brass. The photos will let you see how beautiful this knob is. As with any table of this age, it has a a few marks and scratches on top but overall is in great condition. No wobble and very sturdy. This will make a great office desk(in fact my wife almost commandeered it for her office) entry way table, or as an eye-catcher in a foyer or living room. This listing offers the child's roll top desk. Since I'm uncertain of the age. I won't mislead anyone. I was told it was late 19th century, but again, please judge from the pictures. Stunning Victorian Inkwell/Stand In dark wood with brass inlaid detail. The brass detailing is amazing and very intricate. There are two glass inkwells and a space under the handle(perhaps for a blotting sponge? The drawer at the front is a handy space for paperwork. The craftsmanship is very good with dovetail joints throughout. Measures: 34 cms X 28 cms X 19 cms. The bad points: One of the feet is missing. This can easily be replaced and shouldn't be so difficult to replicate the other feet. One of the glass inkwells is cracked and is missing its brass lid. Aside from this. The stand is in very good condition and would look stunning on a nice vintage desk.
