The flame mahogany looks incredible. With a rich complexion and a pronounced grain that are sure to complement any setting. Each drawer is adorned with elegant solid brass pulls and features dovetailed joints. The writing surface is inlaid with rich brown leather bordered by gold tooling-which was replaced during a recent restoration that also included a new coat of hand-rubbed wax. In total, this desk features three drawers and two cabinets on one side, with seven standard drawers and a file drawer on the other. Conveniently this desk disassembles quite easily: like all pedestal desks, the top simply rests securely on the two pedestals. Some of the surfaces show some minor wear marks, particularly on the feet, but they are very minor indeed, so overall condition is excellent, especially for a desk from this period. Description: This listing is for a ... moreChippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Antique Hepplewhite Federal style tambour desk. This piece is handcrafted primarily of solid dark mahogany. Adorned with linear and bell-flower inlays in contrasting woods. The top half of the desk has two tambour-covered sections containing three pigeon holes and a small drawer. There is also a locked center section. Sorry- no key! The lower part has a fold out. Hinged writing surface atop two full-sized drawers. Drawers are mahogany, with ash as the secondary wood. Dovetailed joints and wonderful nautical-themed brass pulls. Description: This listing is for a Chippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with ... morebrass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

VERY NICE ANTIQUE FOLD OUT WRITING SLOPE/ DESK- LATE 1800's? MAHOGANY? Up for sale is this very nice writing slope. We don't know the age of this item but it looks like it's from the late 1800's. It might be oak or mahogany. But whatever it is it's very nice. It has a little drawer below the writing slope area. The slope folds out and has a leather surface, this may have been replaced at some point. The hinges on the side also don't look original and were probably replaced. You can tell around the hinges where the wood failed and they replaced the hinges. The top flips up too to allow access to the slots for papers and envelopes that is in the back. Behind the writing slope is a wider area to hold other things. We've tried to show how the whole thing works in the first five pictures. The top has a lock but it doesn't ... morehave a key. The drawer has a lock on it and it does have the key as you can see in the pictures. It's very nicely done. The drawer is dovetail mortised on the sides. It's a very nice size and would be fairly portable if you needed it to be. It measures 14.5" W x 9.25" D x 10.25" H. The slope part is 13.75" H by 13.25" W. It weighs 9 lbs. offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, and 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty ... moreof this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

English Edwardian Mahogany Drop Leaf Writing Table Antique Architect Desk
Edwardian Mahogany Writing Table with Drop Leaves England. First half of the 20th Century, Brass Mounted with lifting Architect-style writing surface Item# 120012QIP07B This is a beautiful antique writing table. Probably crafted in England of the Edwardian influence, though later than the period. The solid boards of mahogany have brilliant grains, the mid-most center of the table lifting to create an angled writing surface. The interior has an interesting mechanism design, using a button on the back of the table to depress a little wooden catch, allowing the table top to lift and remain propped until the button is depressed again. At the back, a small compartment can be opened when the top is in lifted position, revealing several compartments and an old glass inkwell. On either side, the mahogany leaves lift on brass hinges, lifted on mahogany ... morewings that swing outward. The front of the table has a little hand dovetailed drawer with original round ring hardware. The table rests over tapered legs terminating in spade feet of the Hepplewhite influence. This is a precious little decorative piece, bringing great visual interest to any study or office setting, also being an excellent side table in a formal sitting area as it is quite unique and versatile. In overall outstanding condition with only the most minor of blemishes, sturdy and strong for regular functional use, this is a great find for any interior decorator or anyone looking to improve the variety of a room in their home. Measurements: 40 5/8" wide when opened. 26 1/2" wide when closed. 22 1/2" deep x 29" high Condition Report: Visually Outstanding Condition Minor scratches. for auction a wonderful antique empire mahogany huge library table or partner's desk. it is 60 inches wide. 36 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. it has a full length drawers on both sides but they are of course on opposite sides. this is just a great piece. the double pedestal is so well carved and the feet are magnificent. it also has great carved corners. i took these pictures about dark so they lack a good bit quality wise, but maybe you can ascertain the quality and beauty of this table. it could have been made by thomas day, i am not sure who the maker, but whoever it was, the table is great. the feet are just the best i have ever seen. as you can see, there is a carved bundle of leaves and other items that come over the top of the stretcher and rest there. great piece. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's ... moreexpense. i can help arrange shipping should that be beneficial to anyone. good luck. ps. i paid a bundle for it some time ago and am just trying to get the investment back. i just took a look at the pictures, they are a bit dark and i pulled it out of the basement as i have room in the house for it and proceeded to dust it off with liquid gold. i see that i forgot to dust the stretcher. anyway, a good cleaning would do it good.

When ansd if you find them the difference in quality in this piece is heads and shoulders above the rest. First of all this piece stands 48 high x 43 wide x 21 deep This piece is heads and shoulders above any other"Butler's desks" that I and others have personally even. The piece id very old, early 1800's when the holes for the hardware were carved in, and the other tool markings are just as primitive, although the workmanship is fantastic. On this piece, the veneer is all in really great shape! Ther'es no\bubbling, or chipping like you would see in much later pieces. even veneer piece made as late as the 1970's have shown tremendous damage from wear ... moreor even daily polishing. The set up for this piece is like this; Two side by side drawers across the very top, then, one single oversized drawer front, which opens and"drops down" to act as a writing surface, by first pulling the entire panel straight out like a drawer, then pressing both buttons in on the spring loaded latch located on both ends of the panel) exposing all the little compartments and drawers inside, and the backside of the front panel which drops down has a soft, recessed fabric on it for writing which has been left in the original worn condition for the antique value. Obviously if one wasa to keep this piece and want to use it which could and should be done, this would be very easy to replace and it would bring back greatness to this piece. Antique Mahogany Martha Washington Sewing Cabinet Stand Side Compartments. Two Drawers Opens to Desk! This is a beautiful antique Martha Washington Sewing Cabinet in very good condition. The cabinet opens to reveal a small desk! A s is typical for most pieces of this style. T he cabinet has flip-top side compartments and base drawers. Rather than three drawers. This unique piece has two drawers and opens and folds to reveal a beautiful pull-out writing surface, two letter compartments, and two small drawers with tiny brass knobs. When closed. The cabinet measures 31" tall, 33.75" wide and 14" deep. When the desk is open, it is 35.75" tall and 14" to 17.5" deep depending on how far the writing surface is extended. The drawers and side cabinets are clean and in excellent shape. The cabinet is in very good condition ... morewith no cracks or splits. It is not without blemish, but is structurally sound and in very good overall condition. This is a sturdy piece of furniture weighing 36 pounds. The most significant blemish is at the left hinge(when facing the piece) where the top folds back into the desk(this should be visible in the last picture) The hardware is a bit temperamental and has caused a knick in the wood. But the damage is not visible when the desk is open. There is some repair to where the back left leg attaches to the base which is not visible unless you are under the cabinet. I have owned this piece since the early 70s. There is some evidence on the bottom that it has previously been painted. It now has a beautiful finish with a lovely patina that is at least 40 years old. When it was purchased. The antique dealer indicated they had never seen another sewing cabinet that converted to a desk. And I have never seen another one in the more than 40 years I have owned this one. It has been refinished in a medium to satin sheen gloss dark reddish-brown mahogany stain. This desk has hand-cut dovetails across the top, like the early construction desks do, a breadboard writing surface that opens up to reveal two slide supports and a gorgeous interior with curved dovetail drawers, a raised beveled center door and center column drawers. It even has a key. The base has curved front drawers with wooden knobs, all dovetail, and the pillar drawers across the top, which means there are two smaller drawers across the base and three drawers in the bottom. There are also heavy-duty detailed claw feet. The overall size is 36 inches wide, 21 inches at the deepest point, and 42 inches high. The writing lid is 31 inches from the floor when opened, and the lid itself is 34 inches wide and 15 inches deep. Antique English Mahogany Hepplewhite Slant Front Desk Circa 1810 Description: An English Hepplewhite mahogany slant front desk. Circa 1810. The desk features a gorgeous original finish and period hardware. There are four graduated drawers over flared french feet and shaped skirt. The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think ... morewe want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described.
