This is a superb 19th century parian female figurine in the classical semi naked pose. Unmarked but during our research we have been informed the figurine. Of quality, is certainly that of Minton. Wonderful portrayal of the semi naked female. Dress attire of a robe with sandals. Carrying an item in her hand of a scribe or similar. The quality is shown through the intricate detailing of the toes with the toenails. Mounted on the circular base. It h as an overall height of about 12.75inches. The statue is done in outstanding details in parian. A type of hard French porcelain that closely resembles marble. The Viking leans against the serpentine figure of the helm of his vessel. He holds the tiller steady in one hand as he shades his eyes with the other to gaze out at the horizon. He props one leg on a well-articulated coil of rope at his feet. The planks of the ship, the texture of the braided rope, and the details of the Viking's hair, clothing, face and hands are all beautifully done with astonishingly realistic detail. His belt and the fastenings for his tunic are all nicely done, and clearly some thought went into the design of ... morehis clothing. The statue was made by Swedish Gustavsberg porcelain manufacture during their early period. The statue is marked on the reverse with GUSTAFSBERG for the maker and the date 95 for 1895. The condition is excellent. The statue is beautifully clean and white for its age. The very tip of one wing on the helmet and about half of the other wing are missing. But these are not very noticeable except on close inspection. The eye is drawn more to the Viking himself and his intent gaze. There are no other breaks, no cracks, no splits, no dents, no chips and no repairs. The statue stands approximately 12 inches wide. 8 inches deep and 21 inches tall. Antique Blue and White Parian Pitcher Very Unusual Scallop Shell Motif Creamer
Lovely. Unusual stylized sea shell decoration on Parian Pitcher. The scallop was often carved into American Chippendale furniture from the 18th Century. Perfect size for milk or cream. Among my grandmother’s treasures was a collection of Relief Molded and Parian Pitchers. This pitcher is the perfect size for milk or cream. Indeed my grandmother often used it after dinner for coffee. The overlapping scallop shell motif is very unusual in a pitcher. Even more so for a Parian pitcher. The shells are further highlighted by the use of blue slip between the rows. It fits right in with my grandmother's love of New England. This type of stylized scallop shell was often carved into the famous antique Chippendale furniture. Made in New England. Typical for Parian pitchers. This one is very delicate and thin walled. It is probably English. Although ... morethe interior is glazed—therefore usable—which was a distinguishing feature of American Bennington Parian ware. It probably dates from the 1850s. Size: about 5 ¾ inches tall and about 4 inches wide at the widest and 5 inches from handle to spout. Condition is great except for a what appears to me as a couple of manufacturing flaws: a few tiny dark spots. Some surface hairlines near the spout that have darkened with age and what looks like a chip on the bottom ridge, except its edges are smooth. To me. That suggests that it happened before it was fired. The hairlines do not extend to the inside of the pitcher. Although one can be seen from the inside because it is darkened and because the wall is delicate and thin. They have obviously been there for quite a while and I would assume they happened during or shortly after the pitcher's firing. While it was cooling. Antique Victorian parian bread/biscuit platter/serving dish. It measures 15 3/4" x 10" x 3" high. The center has a raised design of wheat tied with ribbons. The border has raised cartouches that are glazed. As opposed to the body which is unglazed matt parian. The two handles, or ends, are unglazed parian cherubs. It has no cracks, just one tiny sliver on the underneath edge that does not show on the front, and also one tiny chip to the edge of a tiny scroll that does not show. Parian Ware Pitcher with Berry and Vine Design
This sweet little pitcher is in excellent condition! You would never know it was 150 years old to look at it. It is incredibly detailed. With ornate berries and vines wrapping all the way up the handle. It could be used as a little pitcher for watering your herb garden, or as a decorative bud vase. Including the height of the handle, it is about 4.25" tall. This piece came from a digger's sale in north Chicago. I pulled it out of a box of glassware and couldn't believe its stunning condition! There are no chips and no cracks in this striking little piece. Parian ware. Porcelain introduced about 1840 by the English firm of Copeland& Garrett, in imitation of Sèvres biscuit(fired but unglazed porcelain) Its name is derived from its resemblance to Parian marble.A great many figures, some extremely large, were made in this ... moremedium. Figure measures about 10 1/4" tall. About 8 3/4" wide at base and about 6 3/4" deep at base. I have not found any maker's marks. It is of the finest quality with wonderful detail and top quality modeling. The deer's legs are largely separate from the woman and the woman's arms and hands are mostly separate from the deer. Condition is excellent with no significant issues. There are a few tiny flecks to bottom ridge on base(see photo) There are no other chips, cracks or damage. Circa 1870's or 1880's PARIAN WARE figurine and flower frog-with little girl holding a goblet and a spoon-perhaps some type of Victorian refreshment or dessert-shaved ice or ice cream? She has a flat bisque finish, and is standing on a glazed pedestal with a flower frog behind her-with 6 holes or openings. Her bloomers are showing below her skirts-petticoats. There are applied ornamental discs that may be representing clam shells. Perhaps this was a Victorian seaside souvenir item? Queen Victoria is holding the orb and sceptre.Which are Coronation regalia but this piece would have been made after her Coronation as parian was not developed'till 1842. The figure is 8" 200mm tall and is of exceptional quality and shows the Queen wearing the small crown and mantilla.Across her chest is the Garter Sash and holding the Orb and Sceptre. The best known of Geflowski's work is the 1881 statue of Queen Victoria. A six foot high statue in Sicilian marble. This statue is on public display in Singapore today. Parian figures vary considerably in quality and price. The ones that were moulded first being crisp and sharp and make premium prices whereas later mouldings have lost the cripness and are very prone to firing cracks. This figure is sharp and crisp indicating it is an early casting. It is in good condition with only the top of the sceptre missing, but remarkably the all important top of the crown and orb are undamaged, there is a small firing crack on the veil at the back. Click picture to enlarge click picture to enlarge Description This Parian Ware porcelain pitcher is a MMA late 20th century reproduction. Parian ware is an unglazed high-quality porcelain developed by Copeland& Garrett in England in the early 1840s. Its look was developed to resemble white marble. Parian ware was also made during the 19th century in Bennington Vermont by United States Pottery Company. The high relief design of jonquils and arching leaves is inspired by an original parian pitcher in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Stands about 8 3/4" tall. No box. CONDITION: Preowned item. 20 years old at most. It looks great but please expect that there are some minor signs of use if you are looking really closely, like ... moresmall stain marks or a faint smudge- all very typically of unglazed wares. It is a little dirty deep in the interior from use(probably from use as a vase) Shelf wear/stain on underside of base as shown in photo. I see one little mark on the top of the handle as shown in photo. With a 25x loupe, it looks like a small circle- so perfectly round that my best guess is that is as made, perhaps a kiln mark. Next to the circle, I can see two tiny marks- maybe little scratches or as made. ~ Antique Sevres Urns ~ This is an early pair of French Sevres parian bisque covered urns decorated with figures of putti holding up swags of roses. A beautiful pair. They are large, each measuring 15 1/2" tall to the top of the lid finials. There are some old repairs. A few tiny nicks to flower petals and base rim, and one of the urns has a crack on the side as shown in the photos, however these pieces are heavy and sturdy and this does not affect the stability. Lovely old parianware jug with date lozenge which dates it to 14th October 1883. The jug has a delightful pattern of vines with leaves and flowers I think the jug would have had a lid as there are 2 little bits of metal on the rim as you can see in the photograph and there is a tiny little nick in the handle apart from that the jug is in good condition displays very well and of course could be still used. 5.5" Parian Porcelain Bust Walter Scott made to resemble marble perfect conditio
Here is a 5.5" parian porcelain bust of Walter Scott. It was very likely made in England in the 19th century but there are absolutely no marks on it anywhere. The clothed bust sits on an integrated pedestal that bears the name"Walter Scott. The bottom is solid and bears no marks of any kind. To my hand it feels like it is hollow inside and there is one small hole in the back of the bust to allow air to escape during the firing process. THIS HOLE IS NOT DAMAGE. There are no chips. Cracks or damage of any kind to this piece. It looks a bit discolored with age and dirt but some people call that patina so I have left it untouched and as found. The new owner may want to give it a wash. This will cost $10.00 to mail anywhere in the Continental US with delivery confirmation. She is sitting on a stool that has a adjustable, spool style seat. Her legs are intertwined supporting a book while she concentrates on knitting. This is a nice parian white with deep blue color outling a raised relief decoration of a swinging songbird in a window on each side of this vase. Size is 7 1-2 inches tall and 2 1-4inches across base. Bennington pottery is not marked. Dates from 1847-1858. The handmade grape bunches on each side make into a tiny little handle.
