That it was installed where the stairway turned. This post could be used in another stairway that is shorter by cutting off a section at the bottom. I have shown the measurements alongside the post in the photos below. I have also shown a small section where the natural wood shows. Vintage newel post section from an old building in NYC. Not sure of exact age or type of wood. 12.5" tall. The base is 9.25" in diameter. The middle section at its widest is 21" in circumference. Some distressing(chips in stain. Crackling in finish, etc. that should be expected in a vintage item such as this. No major damage. Stained a dark color, but can easily be sanded and refinished. Great old piece to display on a mantle as is, or place a pillar candle on top of it for a unique look. So cool!

This is a vintage pine newel post with a domed top. Very nice grain in the wood. It measures aprox. 43 3/4" high x 8" square at the top, 7 3/4" square at the bottom, the notch on the bottom is 3 1/4" deep x 6 1/2" high. Beautiful historic/ antique chestnut wood newel post. Post was painted black previously but has been completely hand refinished. Stained and polyurethaned and is in great condition! Exact age is unknown but is at least over 100 years old and still very sturdy! The bottom corner is notched to fit over the corner of a step(see photos) The newel post measures 4 feet tall and approx. 6" wide in the center section. There is a small portion of the circular rosette missing(see last photo) but is not noticeable at all. The side shown without the rosette is the side that the handrail would attach to.

Vintage Antique Newel Post Repurpoused Wood Column Pedestal Banister Stair Case
Antique Vintage Newel Post. Was told by the person I purchased it from that it came from a pre 1900's farm house that was torn down recently. He also told me that it was oak and believes it to be the original finish. It's in really good condition for being a hundred plus years old. There are a couple of blemishes from where it was attached to the rest of the railing including one crack at the bottom. All blemishes are pictured. I will also remove all of the nails that are in the piece prior to shipping. I just wanted to show it in its barn found state. This vintage arts& crafts style wood newel post has a tapered column and beautiful square cap. This piece(and I do have 2 others) are from an 1800's home in East Aurora. NY. They had been tucked away in the attic since updating was done on the home many years ago. Measure: 33 1/2" height; Base is 6 3/8" square; Tapered column is 4 3/4" at the bottom and 4" at the top; Cap is 6 3/8" square. A lot of character in this unique piece of history! Painted post is crazed and chipped. Nail holes where it was installed and damage to the wood base- see the photos. Top cap stain is crazed and worn from years of use. VERY VERY MINOR, SMALL STRESS CRACKS THAT ARE NOT VERY NOTICABLE AND DO NOTHING TO THE STRENGHT AND INTEGRITY OF THIS POST. Antique Vintage Shabby Wooden Distressed Newel Post Antique newel post. Measures 43 3/4" long. Square sections are 5" x 5" wide. Notch out at bottom is 7 1/2" up and 2 1/2" in. Leaving a remainder of 2 1/2" on the post. Looks to be oak ~ heavy ~ weighs 17 1/2 lbs. A bit distressed ~ a few nicks and dings. Chip on one round band and some roughness on bottom as shown in pics, all of which can be repaired rather easily. Needs refinished. But in good condition to do so. Appears to have one coat of varnish, some of which is worn away and small streaks of white latex paint. Would look great done in stain& varnish or painted for a shabby cottage chic look. This was salvaged from an old late 1800's brick Iowa two story Victorian church parsonage house that was torn down. It measures 60" in height. Made from cherry wood stock. Post has been stripped very clean and is ready for stain and finish. It is missing some trim molding for the upper section as well as the cap. I used to have it but the pieces have gotten misplaced over the years and are gone now but can be easily trimmed with any other kind of old similar molding and caps aren't hard to find. This eBay listing is for a Reclaimed Vintage Antique oak Newell post. This measures 8' tall by 6" squared. Notched trim top measures 9" squared. Carved Oak applications on 4 sides. This was the center Newell of a large staircase and has notches for treads and where it trimmed into wall. some nicks and dings. Paint splatters.salvaged. Condition.
