Scottish George III Golden Oak Tall Case Clock(Antique Grandfather Clock) Early 19th Century. Face painted"James Alexander, Turiff" Falseplate stamped Finnemore& Sons Height reduced Item# 130102PWP01 This Scottish George III Tall Case Grandfather Clock is a fine specimen. Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century and reduced during the 20th Century to give it a more desirable height for smaller homes. Entirely crafted of Golden Oak for the primary surfaces. Both in solid and veneers, it has a caramelized warmth to the finish with a fine preserved patination beneath the later shellac. Featuring a broken-arch pediment with an incredible stamped brass rosette. The hood is raised on reeded columns with brass mounts flanking a tombstone glazed-glass door over the painted dial. The door is crafted with through-tenon joinery ... moreof the secondary surfaces, covered with the thick golden oak veneers. The arch is painted with a stuffed Cornucopia, each spandrel likewise embellished with gilt highlights around Roman Numeral hour ring with Arabic Numerals bordering this in fifteen-minute intervals. The center is inscribed"James Alexander Turiff" probably the retailer of this clock in Scotland. The back of the works are impressed by the maker of the movement, Finnemore& Son, presumably the firm active in Birmingham around 1810-35. Original glazed-glass windows on either side of the works allow you to peer into the movement. The shaft has a tombstone door with a rounded lip-molding. Opening on original brass hinges to reveal the paint decorated iron pendulum and two weights. 1860s-1880s vintage E. Ingraham large 24" tall oak case"Regulator" clock. Time only. Large 12" dial pan, original upper and lower glass. Has received an in-home restoration fairly recently, case was refinished and the dial face was repainted by hand, giving it a bit of whimsy to the numbers. Back board was replaced with new masonite and they did a good job of it; should last for generations to come. Keeps excellent time. I believe it was serviced recently too. I think it's an 8 day movement, but I haven't run it long enough to be sure- ticks rather loudly and our apartment is small. I can only imagine this clock high on a wall in a library, or hall filled with stenographers busily awaiting the lunch hour! Has clean lines to the case, not plain but not ostentatious either. We removed it from the clock case. The movement is marked Seth Thomas. I do not know if it is presently in working condition because there is no pendulum, pendulum rod, hands or key. It does chime as it should. It looks like there was work done on the clock in 1971& 1978 as there is a mark and date on the wood frame. Impressive French tall case clock--Morbier---A. Aubin--quartered oak---14973
A very impressive French morbier tall case clock. 19th century, executed in quartered quarter sawn oak. The repousse accented dial is in copper and has a organic floral decoration. Surrounding the original enamel dial with Roman numerals, marked'A. Aubin' who I believe was the son of Samuel Aubin. Both worked in the town of'Fecamp' France. This 19th century tall clock has a lower case with a glass pendulum window which exposes the brass bob and pendulum. Two weight original movement is time and strike and also a French repeater.
