OLD MILITARY TRUNK FOOTLOCKER METAL AND WOOD
For auction is an old military style foot locker. It is wood and has a metal covering. It is approximately 30.5" wide. 17" deep, and 14.5" tall. There is an old crest painted onto the top, but I don't recognize it as any modern unit insignia. It may be related to an old military academy or camp. This footlocker probably dates to between the World Wars(1920-1940) Judging by the inside, it is closer to the older part of that date range. The remnants of an old trunk sticker reference the Civilian Military Training Camps program(CMTC) which only existed between those years. This is great vintage decorator piece and has lots of character. This is for LOCAL PICKUP. I can ar range to meet just about anywhere in the DC Beltway area. Due to the si ze and w eight. Vintage steamer/military foot locker trunk- Samson
You are viewing a vintage. Steam/military, foot locker trunk. It is in a military olive green color and has brass clamp over latches on the front with a locking center latch. The latch will close but is loose and I have no key. There is a leather handle underneath the center latch.It has metal side handles and is trimmed around all of the edges with metal attached by metal brads. The metal trim is in black with the corners in a brass. There is patina around the brass latches and the corners. The trunk is a painted wood and has 3 ornate hinges on the back top lid. There is a double compartment wood insert that sits on the inside wood corners and the bottom and top inside has a paper lining but the lining has aged and some has flaked off. There are no cracks in the bottom or the insert. There is a bubbled wood area on the front right side about ... more10" long and about an1" to 2" wide. Slight scruffing is on the bottom from use. There is also a manufacture sticker above the front latch that reads SAMSON- Shwayder Bros. Inc. Denver- Detroit. I think this trunk is from the 1930s-40s and was used as a military trunk possibly although there are no military insigna located on it anywhere. But the side handles being metal and the military olive green is consistant with military items. I know that Shwayder Bros. operated in the 1930s-1939 and Samson later became Samsonite in 1965. The trunk measures 16"x12 1/4" x 30" It weighs approximately 21 lbs. It is a nice old trunk and would look great if just cleaned up and even better if restored. if you have any questions please contact me. Recently found out these are Russian crates made to hold 91/30 rifles, We have several of these trunks in stock, some have different shades of green, made of pine or cedar wood? Have wood, oil paper, or cedar smell once opened! Has the previous owners info stenciled on top. Back and one side and a worn paper government shipping label on the bottom. It shows travel wear and has some flaking of the layers that bind the bottom edge on one edge and a little on the edge next to it. It must be some kind of thick cardboard they use there. Believe it is wood. Latches and handles work fine. Inside is nice and clean with no funky smells. Little light surface rust on the hardware, nothing big. He was a Lt Colonel from June 1958- June 1960. During the Vietnam War. He was considered a USMC Senior Marine Advisor. He was also a Colonel in the 1965 9th Marines, Third Marine Division who were one of the first American combat troops to protect the Da Nang Airport in Vietnam, from May 6- December 31. Wilkinson was there from July 1- December 31. This information I found online from what i could understand so there could be some slight errors in the dates, etc. I was able to find a picture of him. He is second from the right in the last photo. There may be more info regarding him online. But that is what I found. It would be awesome for you to own a trunk ... morethat belonged to a Colonel during the Vietnam War. The outside dimensions are about 34 inches x 20.25 inches x 13.5 inches(tall) This item is in great vintage condition. The pictures will give you a good representation of what it looks like. The inside of the cover has a door that opens and there are some compartments behind this door(inside the cover) On the inside of this door there is a diagram that shows where the original contents that this box once held would be stored(contents are not included. This is an empty box) There are 2 stickers with a person's name written on them that are stuck on the diagram(please see photo) On the outside of this door there are 3 straps that have snaps on them; the straps are very tight. Instruments in the 60's/ 70's. A hefty piece of equipment. Weighing in at over 100lbs. The case opens in two, one side housing all the cables, including an extremely thick master cable. The other side has the switches and terminals. The case is scratched and scuffed. One of the rheostats has become detached and broken, although the resistance wire is intact. This one is the controller for station 4, each station has 3 outputs. It measures approximately 31" x 16" deep x 12" tall inches. Has Railway Form still attached to top from a soldier shipping the trunk home to Orlando from an Army base in Georgia. Dated 1945. Wonderful bit of nostalgia added. additional pictures available. Trunk is sturdy and well built with all rivets. Handles and metal straps secure on metal body. The trunk is missing the center lock mechanism though replacements are easy to come by. Two side clasp locks are in working order. This is the original WWII era trunk that belonged to Tuskegee Airman Joseph P Gomer. Joe Gomer was a member of the first African American fighter pilot group.This was his personal WWII era United States Military trunk. It has his name on it on several places and also has shipping stickers. This comes from his long time Duluth Minnesota home today. Joe Gomer is the last surviving pilot of the original Tuskegee WWII pilots. He has moved to an assisted living facility and this was his living estate sale. Joe Gomer was born in 1920. He enlisted in 1942 and got his wings in 1943. His training was at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama. It was a new program by President Roosevelt to train black pilots. He was in 332nd Fighter Group. There is a movie, several books, about this highly decorated American hero. Vintage Military Officer's Footlocker/Steamer Trunk
This is a wonderful old steamer trunk/footlocker. I found it at an estate sale where there was a bunch of WWII memorabilia. However, the sale was run by an outside agent who knew little about the items so I was not able to learn much about the age or history of this item. It would make a nice coffee table with lots of storage room inside. It measures 31" X 16" X 13" and is constructed of wood and wrapped in thin. Dark green painted metal with brass-tone hardware/corner guards. From what information I have been able to gather, the date and manufacturer information are beneath the printed paper lining the inside of the trunk but I will not pull it up to check as it is original to the trunk. This item is used. The exterior has a nice patina of travel scuffs. Scratches and light dings but is still a sturdy piece with no structural ... moreissues. Both leather strap handles are intact and in good condition(all of the ones I found online were missing one, if not both, of the strap handles.The two outer latches work properly and keep the lid secure. Some of the hardware have rust spots. The interior paper has become brittle and is peeling in a few spots and there are some light stains here and there. There does appear to be some corrosion stains where the paper touches/touched the metal detailing. As for the lock, I do not know if it works. I do not have a key so I don't want to chance having to break the lock. I have more detailed pictures. If you would like to see them send me a message. If you would like to pick up this item instead of having it shipped I will accept an offer of $100.

WWII MILITARY ARMY FOOT LOCKER TRUNK CHEST RARE ANTIQUE - 2ND LT SNOWDEN HAYWOOD
This is from WWII and has survived at least 70 years. It is worn and by no means new. This is a very nice example from the period and a great piece of our American history. Snowden Haywood was born on June 14. 1922 in Scarsdale, Westchester County, New York. He was 2nd Lieutenant, F.A. Army of the U.S. 263rd Field Artillery Battalion. He was killed in action on December 26. 1944 in Luxembourg. An extract from a letter of commendation by Maj. Gen. W. S. Paul. Former Division Commander, referring to the Battle of the Ardennes: Despite seemingly insurmountable difficulties of terrain and blizzard conditions. Our artillery at all times was in a position to support the attack. Moreover, the accurate and timely massing of its fires on innumerable occasions broke up enemy counterattacks before they could be launched, inflicting unbearable losses ... moreon the enemy. The conduct of the forward observer and liaison plane groups was marked with many feats of heroism and self-sacrifice. At no time, day or night, were observed fires lacking.
