1800s Primitive Jewish IMMIGRANT'S CHEST/BLANKET CHEST with 6-POINT STAR VGC

With No Reserve, is a Gorgeous, Primitive Footed Immigrant's Chest/Blanket Chest Featuring a 6-Point Star of David on the Front, and Curved Pieces in Each Corner, From the 1800s, in VERY Good, Antique Condition! This to be a Jewish immigrant's chest and the Star of David is prmminently displayed on the front is remarkable. The chest is very old- the top, front and back are constructed of 2, 12" boards and the two ends also have a 12" board with two thinner ones above and below. The bottom flooring is constructed with 5 boards. The wood is 3/4" thick and is in very good condition with only a few minor cracks that we can find and there are a few paint spatters. There is some warping to the lid- see photos, but this could be eased down with the proper procedure. Also, in order to keep the chest together, ... morethere are later repairs- several"squiggle" fasteners on one end and some brackets on the inside of the lid. This is a truly remarkable chest and imagine what it has seen! It is also quite large. It measures 49" wide x 31" tall(it has 5" legs) x 25" deep. The star is 14" from point to point and the center circle has a diameter of 8" it sticks out from the chest 1" The piece on the lid is 37 1/4" x 9" x 1/2" We have"guestimated" the weight to be close to 90- 95 lbs. and it will have a shipping weight of 100lbs. It may weigh less. It may weigh more- our scale only goes to 75 lbs. The inside of the trunk has never been stained or sealed. But the inner surfaces are in very good condition. This auction is for the Antique Wooden Grain Painted Dome Top Chest pictured below. This is a nice very old trunk. It has hand wrought iron handles at both ends of the chest. A metal lock and metal strap hinges. It has dovetail corners and a storage compartment inside the trunk. It is in good condition but does have some rough spots. Including some bug holes, and some end boards that have dried and warped a bit on the domed lid. It has its original paint featuring grain painted designs. The chest measures about 59" long, 23.5" front to back at the top tapering to 21” at the bottom. Small Antique Primitive Wooden Immigrant Dowery Chest w/ Forged Iron, Folk Paint
Up for bids we offer this cute. Little, antique wooden chest in very good condition. It measures 18 inches long, 13 1/4 inches high, and about 12 1/4 inches wide; it weighs 16 1/2 pounds. It's dates back to the early 19th Century and was made out of thick pine planks with forged iron hardware as well as metal reenforcement and decorative pieces. Built to last, the corners of this old chest are held together by hand cut dovetail joints with the front ones covered with whimsically cut pieces of tin. The wood has a beautiful patina that shows age and has great color and nice graining. The front has worn, decorative, folk paint along with a hand cut and punched tin decoration that is heart-shaped. There's a primitive iron latch that can be used with a padlock to secure the box. Throughout the history of this piece, the hinges have been ... morereplaced at least once and though the current set is old and still works, replacements might be in order as one is more worn than the other. The wood is in very good condition and there are no problems with active woodworms, termites, or dry rot. Even the bottom is in very good condition. Another interesting aspect of this chest is the inside of the cover, which is decorated with antique banknotes. These date from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and look to be German and from other European countries. Other paper remnants can be seen under the old money. It's an interesting piece that has seen plenty of use throughout its lifetime and has been well cared for. It may have even had an older restoration at some point. Here is a cute little wooden souvenir chest from Norway measuring 6 1/4" long by 3 1/2" deep by about 3" high. Very vintage in appearance but unsure of date. Outside is carved. Then painted and lacquered. Inside cover has the words"Hilsen fra Norge" and a little carving of a building in the upper left hand corner. See condition notes above. This is 19th century hand dovetailed domed top pine chest with old gray paint and traces of red. The name"Louis Becher" is painted on the side and top. The chest is a really nice medium size(39.5"W. 17"H, 18"D) it could be placed on a large table or on the floor. The exterior shows prolonged signs of use, but the interior is extremely clean. The hardware is all original but there is a missing clasp on the lock. It is very solid, the hinges work well, and it is otherwise completely functional. I regret that I do not know the history of this piece. I would estimate that it dates from the first 1/2 of the 19th Century or possibly earlier. Those possessing more knowledge than I of wood and iron working would have a better idea. Country of original is also an unknown as I have assumed this to be an early. Small immigrant chest or possibly that of a child. It is 15 3/8” tall, 18 3/4” wide, and 12 3/4” deep. The finish appears to be original. 18th Century New England Immigrant's Chest
Up for auction is this late 1700s-1800 New England Immigrant's Chest. The chest is made of yellow pine with original finish. It is made mostly with wooden pegs with only 3 metal nails in the top. In addition. It has a dovetail case, strap hinges, and a barrow top. It has hand forged handles and hardware and staggered jointery. There is wear consistent with the age of the chest. This chest is approximately 200 years old or older. This chest came from an estate in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been in the same family for generations. This is a beautiful primitive immigrant's trunk. This is a very large trunk measuring 55"Wx32"Hx24"Deep with a curved top. It has dark green painted planks with hand stenciled flowers. Also stenciled on the front is the initials"BLD" and the date"1849" The trunk has hand forged metal straps. Handles and an original keyhole with the old fashioned metal key. The key and latch still works. Construction includes wooden pegs and dove tailed joints. The inside of the trunk is the original whitewashed wood with built in box storage area. This"dome top" immigrant trunk from Scandinavia with folk art painting. The ironwork suggests this was a dowry chest. The family name is in script. Hand hewn of pine I believe. European furniture, useful as a blanket chest. Wrought iron hardware but missing top lock. The interior is clean and has 1 inside top tray. Length is 25 inches and 17 inches tall with a depth of 14.5 inches. This is NOT as large as many trunks but quit a wonderful size. The perfect piece to place adjacent to a chair or as a strong accent piece BUT does not dominate the space. Just a charming size. I often used the truck open to display linens. No oder. This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. 18th century Antique Blanket Chest - COLONIAL - Immigrant Dome Trunk untouched
You are bidding on a 18th century"immigrant trunk. It is in great. Original condition. The trunk dates to the 18th century. I have had two of Rhode Island's highly respected colonial antique dealers examine the chest, and both have confirmed my approximation of age. In fact, one antique furniture expert(with a Ph.D. in history) just today, after examining the trunk for 30 minutes, said it is possible that the trunk dates to the early 1700's, making it a full 300 years old. But I will err on the side of understatement, and simply say the trunk is unquestionably 18th century. The expert was very impressed with the shape and character of the hand-forged hinges. And in particular, was effusive in his excitement with regard to the quality of the hand-forged locking mechanism. It still closes with"vise-like" strength. And ... morewe both marveled at the key.which appears to be original to the locking mechanism. Can you imagine that?nearly 300 years old, and still with the probable original key. I can't go a year without losing a key. With regard to the paint: neither the two colonial America antique dealers. Nor myself, can say with absolute 100% certainty that the paint is original to the piece. Though, after examining the trunk very closely.front, back, sides, top and bottom.we could find not a thing that points to anything other than original paint. It is simply extraordinary to find a piece of this age with such deep, rich color. So I am going to err on the side of understatement, and simply say very old paint. Possibly original. With regard to the trunk's origin: Years ago. When I purchased the trunk at auction, the auctioneer had described the trunk"as found in Pennsylvania. The key was entirely hand made from a solid piece of steel which I aged& heat treated in a special way to achieve the incredible looking wrought iron key I love the original hand wrought rimset(surface mounted) lockset including the spear shaped latch which goes into the lockset. The spring on the lockset is built like a battleship. It is very strong, an amazing feat for being 300 years old This chest has hand forged"rose head" wrought iron nails. They are original to the chest.there are some new reproduction rose head nails I used to secure the inside straps of the handles and the spear latch inside the lid. The character marks and graining of the pine is superb. I love the wormy tunnel marks in the wood throughout the chest, especially prominent on the back and lower sides. Swedish 1840's Pine Immigrant Chest or Trunk. Coffee Table. Hand carved in Sweden around 1840. This country pine immigrant trunk or chest has a slightly curved top, but still makes a picturesque coffee table. The carpenter's expertise is shown by wooden pegs instead of nails and hand cut corner dovetail joints. There is a wonderful hand wrought iron lock that still works with the key. But we have removed it because it locks automatically when the lid is closed. It is included and can be reattached if desired. Wrought iron hinges are also original. There are traces of old paint and warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Antique 1800's Primitive Wood Immigrant Chest Travel Steamer Treasure Trunk with steamed original wood handles. Good condition for age. Worn and distressed from age and use with some cracks in the wood. Missing one roller wheel on bottom. Scuffs and scratches. Has decorative paper over the outer trunk and is stained and missing some of the paper. No key. Someone has added wall paper on the inside. The picture is original. There's a small typed letter that has been added as well. Trunk measures approx. 23 3/4" wide not counting the handles x 15" tall x 13 1/2" deep. Sold as is as found with no warranty's.
