It has beautiful grain, some carved accent details, and is designed in a way that the grain of different sections runs in different directions, which gives it a uniquely beautiful look. It was made by the Roos Company in Illinois, and has a partial original label on the bottom, which has the serial number. The chest is 18.5” tall, 44” long, 19” wide, and 11” deep when the lid is open. It is made to lock, however, there is not a key with it.

This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Some of the grain is slightly raised on the front(as seen in the picture) Several pictures were taken under different lighting conditions. There are a few very minor scratches. But overall it is in very good condition. IMPORTANT: As per the requirements of the Consumer Products Safety Commission. The information below gives you information about the company and vintage era about this ... morecedar chest. Cedar Chest by Ed. Roos Co. The Ed. Roos Co. manufactured quality cedar chests from about 1916 to 1951. Most of those years they were located in Forest Park. IL. They were very successful for a time and made a large quantity of cedar chests. Because of that they are not particularly scarce. They are, however, of very good quality and were manufactured in quite a few styles. The style and condition are the determining factors in value. The Art Deco"waterfall" style. It is. However, in better condition and would be worth about $200-$250. The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had several children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. They used a rooster in several variations in some of their logos. The"Ed Roos Company of Forest Park" started in Chicago as the Roos Cedar Chest Company in 1916. And also manufactured cedar chests, but it is a different company. They used a tree(presumably a cedar tree) in a circle as their logo. There are also other logos without the tree, and one with a heart for their"Sweetheart" chests. They also used a variety of paper and cardboard labels. It was started by Otto's brother. Edward. The company moved to Forest Park, IL in 1918 and changed its name to the Ed Roos Company of Forest Park In the 1920 federal census. Otto Roos is listed as President of a wooden wares business. So it is clear that the original Roos Manufacturing Company was still at work in 1920, after Ed Roos opened up shop in 1918 in Forest Park. Beautiful. Antique, Vintage, Roos,cedar chest from the 30's is an amazing piece! It has nice. Stately carved feet, carved trim and a carved section on the front. It has the original Roos paper still attached inside and the original heavy paper lining is almost perfect.The only thing that really shows its age is some marking on the top. It has some scratches and a moisture stain. I went over it with an oil based scratched cover and it is by no means perfect on the top but as a whole, still displays beautifully. You also could always put a doily, cushion or tea tray on the top to hide the moisture stain. Please look closely at pictures. It is approx 45" long, 20" wide and 26 1/4" tall.
