Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Antique 1930s Art Deco Cedar Lane Hope Chest Miniature.
One of the oldest Cedar Lane miniature hope chests I have ever seen. Art Deco design from the 1930s. This box was fully restored. Outside of the box was cleaned and finished with several coats of MinWax Satin Varnish and hand-polished to a soft lustre with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. The wood has beautiful straight line graining and coloring. The box is 9" long x 4" tall x 4 1/8" deep. These miniture chests were given to the purchasers of a full-sized one to use as jewelry boxes. Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. This is a beautiful 1951 Lane Cedar Chest. It is done in the Waterfall style. With the different kinds of wood making patterns. This chest is marked with the Lane logo on the inside of the lid along with the original paperwork, dated Oct. 1952. The bottom is marked with the style number(2592-3M) and the serial number(157150) The manufacture date is the serial number backwards, so this chest was made 5/17/51. The inside of the box on the bottom is the pressure treated mark that also says, the only tested aroma tight cedar chest in the world" This cedar chest is in wonderful condition for its age. It has been well taken care of for many years. Lane Antique Vintage Collectible Art Deco Cedar Hope Blanket Chest - Authentic!
This original antique/vintage Lane Cedar Chest is a beautiful family heirloom. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. Date of manufacture is Serial# in reverse: 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are some light scratches on the lid and a few more on the front and sides. There are also a few small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section(see 8th picture) where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. This might be able to be restored. The interior is in very good condition. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. Legs are solid and intact. At one point. The Lane Company issued a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock has been removed. As far as I know, they are ... moreoffering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. 1930's Antique Lane Altavista Cedar Blanket Hope Chest
This cedar chest has been in my family since it was new. From the research I've done. It appears the date of manufacture is 10/06/1936. I have the serial number and style number. see photos) The interior is perfect(see photos. It would be worth a lot more money if refinished and possibly the lock replaced. The lock can easily be replaced and it still available for free due to a lock recall, so I just ordered one online and am waiting to receive it in the mail. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy.
