Impressive chandeliers I’ve ever offered, and abounds with amazing details: 1) The finial! Wow! Instead of the standard glass sphere. This chandelier has an intricate glass spear! Wow! 2) The five glass S-shaped arms have notches cut into the glass. 3) There are five additional arms which leap into the air. These hold a glass(not plastic! ring. The ring in turn holds double strands which swag out to the other arms. Elegant. Stunning! 4) The candle covers are not plastic. Nor cardboard. They are glass! Yes. Glass! I’ve never seen this before! 5) The glass bobeches(the disks under the candle covers) are unique. These are normally bowl-shaped but the bobeches here are more plate-like. And each has lovely details cut into the glass. 6) The candles sit in glass cups. And these, too, have lovely details cut into the glass. 7) Above the intricate glass stem is a large bobeche. And from this hangs alternating strands of short/long glass drops. The chandelier is impressive. Too, in its scale: it is 22-inches wide. The vertical wire is new. And cloth-covered like the original. By some miracle. The fixture is totally undamaged. There are no chips or cracks. I must stress the quality of the fixtures. They are made of very heavy metal. And the level of detail is lush and beautifully done. I’ve no idea what style the fixtures are. I’ve never seen anything like‘em. I do know they would work in a Spanish-Revival home. Bungalow, Four-Square, and Arts& Crafts. I also love the idea of their being an exciting counterpoint in a modernist interior. The fixtures retain their original ceiling canopies and chain. Nice. The exposed vertical wires will be new and cloth-covered like the originals. ABOUT THE RESTORATION SCHEDULE: The fixtures are not yet restored. This will take up to two weeks after payment is received. ABOUT THE FINISH: The fixtures retain their original polychrome– a burnished gold. And with accents of a soft green. Just gorgeous. I’m very pleased to offer this striking 1930s Spanish-Revival. Arts& Crafts-style 5-bulb chandelier by the famous Virden Company! The John C. Virden Company was Canadian-based. At 19 Curity Ave in Toronto. They also had a US presence at 6103 Longfellow Avenue in Cleveland. Ohio. You can Google search the latter. And“stand” in front of the massive brick factory. It is now long abandoned, and its countless widows broken. But it wasn’t that long ago that this factory– like countless such factories across America– was teeming with life. And supporting millions of families. This, back when America actually made stuff. I mean. Wow. The chandelier is rich with detail. And– drum roll please– retains all its original parts! The finial is dazzling! The bottom of the chandelier is stunning. Don’t miss the double dog heads where the arms meet the large ring. Cool. There are five incredible chains with leaf-styled disks. I love it! Above the chains is a dramatic double dog flourish! Note also the original. Distinctive chain… and ceiling canopy! The chandelier is from Virden’s Beacon Line. The main color is also original. A sort of graphite. There are selected components in a burnished gold. The chandelier is not actually restored yet. It will have all new wiring(and the exposed wiring will be cloth-covered like the original) And with new paper insulators on the sockets. The item you are purchasing: This light fixture is quite a beauty-had me taking multiple looks as I photographed it. The light reflects so well off the the candle wick detailing that runs from top to bottom. It is blue with beautiful-highly detailed clear glass. All components are in excellent condition and are from the mid century era. The shade and stem compliment each other nicely. The shade measures about 12 inches in diameter and is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. The metal components have been sanded and repainted a glossy white. The original Leviton porcelain socket has been rewired and accepts a 150 watt bulb. This amazing light fixture hangs 16 inches from the ceiling. The mounting hardware will be included. The light reflects so well off the the candle wick detailing that runs from top to bottom. It is blue with beautiful-highly detailed clear glass. All components are in excellent condition and are from the mid century era. The shade and stem compliment each other nicely. The shade measures about 12 inches in diameter and is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. The metal components have been sanded and repainted a glossy white. The original Leviton porcelain socket has been rewired and accepts a 150 watt bulb. This amazing light fixture hangs 16 inches from the ceiling. The mounting hardware will be included. Vintage 1930s Art Deco Ceiling Light Lamp Fixture Chandelier GIll Lighting MFG
I have a second matching fixture if you need 2 of these. This has normal wear to the finish you would expect but it is mostly on the bottom round disc and the price is greatly discounted so you can have it copper plated or painted or leave it as is. As you can see it is working. These are normally found installed in Banks and Upscale Homes. The FRAGILE Glass Shade has an alabaster appearance with a filigree banding surrounding the top edge. It's just beautiful to see in person. And this is a signature of a high end Gill MFG light. The shade is held to the fixture by three adjustable chains which are attached to a metal shade below the glass shade. The fixture has a aged copper finish and features fluted column sides. When Lit. Vintage Antique 5 bulb cast metal hanging chandelier. Manufactured by the John C. Virden company. The fixture is part of the Aldersyde Series. From the 1930's-1940's. See picture from their 1941 catalog. This chandelier is in excellant working condition. It has not had any restoration to the polychrome paint finish& retains the original antique gold patina as well as the green and red floral motifs. The original porcelain sockets are intact, the only known thing done to the wiring is it has been wrapped. There is an on/off switch on the base of the unit but it has been deactivated. Uses standard base bulbs, 60 watt max. Chandelier is ready to hang, no bulbs included. As seen in the pictures the chandelier works. We have been using it in our dining room for 3+ years but our home is more of a farmhouse so we recently(last week) ... moretook it down. There are also artfully blended accents of jade and red, and this is really beautiful. The wiring is new. And cloth covered like the original. It weaves in and out through the arms of the chandelier and so becomes part of the aesthetic composition. Alas. The chandelier finial was long gone. I had the set in storage for ages while endlessly searching for the errant finial but it seemed cruel to keep such beauty hidden any longer. I did make a subtle change though. I took the flourish the chain hangs from and moved it to the bottom as a surrogate finial. It’s a change easily undone should the finial ever show up. INCREDIBLE UPDATE: I have found the original finial! At long last! So. The chandelier will be shipped exactly as it was originally completed!
