Early tea caddies were small and made in precious materials. All caddies carried locks on them and it was typical in the 18 th century for the lady of the house to keep the caddy key on her chatelaine around her waist. This meant the servant and butler of the house would not be tempted to try such a precious commodity. Tea caddies by 1780 began to be made in walnut. Mahogany and were often Satinwood cross banded. They began to become larger from 1784 when the hated tea tax was removed. An emergent middle class could start to take tea for the first time as the average price of tea dropped by ... morethree shilling a pound. We are so happy to offer this Sarcophagus Form English Mahogany Chippendale Tea Caddy circa 1700's for your consideration. The Antique Chippendale Tea Caddy comes from an estate in Dover, Delaware that dates back to the 18th Century. The Antique Tea Caddy is made of Flame Grained Mahogany that is inlaid and veneered. The Antique Chippendale Tea Caddy rests upon four original Brass Ball and Claw Feet. Ball and claw feet were a trademark of Chippendale furniture but would have been very rare and unique for a tea caddy. Over time many of these caddies were altered and converted into jewelry boxes as the cost and availability of teas and spices dropped. The Brass Lion Head Handles were added during the 19th century when the box was converted. The Original red paper shows upon the lid, however the inside paper was removed when the caddy was converted. There is a lock and key that are original, however the lock is not working. The front key escutcheon has gone missing. The Antique Chippendale Sarcophagus Shaped Tea Caddy has the original double inserts with the Original Small Lid Coverings. The Lid Coverings still retain the tiny ivory knobs. The Gorgeous Ea

ANTIQUE ENGLISH TEA CADDY - REGENCY PERIOD - ROSEWOOD W/LION HANDLES- CIRCA 1820
Up for auction is an incredible original antique tea caddy made of Rosewood and highlighted on the edges with Boxwood stringing. This exquisite tea caddy is quite old. It's style is from the Regency period which dates this piece circa 1810 or 1820. The very English handles are lions' heads with a ring for a handle in the mouths. I did not polish the handles as I didn't want to jeopardize the value of this piece in any way. The key hole is outlined in diamond shaped authentic ivory inlay. The original key is included. Inside the box are two Rosewood lids covering the compartments which once stored precious and very valuable tea leaves. In the center of the box is a circular compartment which once housed a bowl of some kind. This bowl is no longer present. The dimensions of this substantial tea caddy is approximately 13 inches long(handle ... moreto handle) 7 inches wide, and 7 inches tall This is an extremely old piece and has the age related characteristics you find in antiques. Details of the condition are listed above and photographed for your viewing. Despite the age of this piece. It does not give off any unfavorable odors. I will package this tea caddy with the utmost care and. Of course, insure it. I have seen similar tea caddies sell for much more than I am asking. If you have any questions that I forgot to answer. English Mahogany Tea Caddy Miniature Box Georgian Taste, 19th Century Antique
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING ENGLISH GEORGIAN STYLE MAHOGANY TEA CADDY With alterations. Mostly 19th Century Item# 130001SLH21 This is a quite attractive English George III Style Tea Caddy. Probably from the last quarter of the 19th Century. In their day, these boxes were an important part of the home, protecting valuable teas from humidity and theft inside of it's locking case. Over time, many of these boxes have been gutted and converted into jewelry boxes as the cost and availability of various teas and spices dropped, and as such the form lost it's usefulness- the same fate befell this little box, later then converted back to it's original intended use as a tea caddy. We believe the interior dividers are later though, possibly following original ... moreoutlines but this cannot be verified. The canisters are of the period, but there is no way to be certain they belong with this caddy. While this certainly is less attractive to the purist, it is an absolutely gorgeous decorative box with which an honest attempt to return it to it's prior glory has been made. The molded top with light channeled edging culminates in an original brass bail pull with round rosette terminals. It lifts on period hinges with mostly period screws. The interior of the lid strengthened and restored with an oak insert, revealing a divided interior of two paired canisters with round and very tight fitting caps, these flanking a square canister with a hinged lid. The oak inside of the case has been stained, probably around the same time the interior was restored. The form of the case is square. The unbroken and undistracted surface highlighted with a period keyhole escutcheon(a probable replacement) the case resting on small bracket feet. This gorgeous little antique box is perfect for anyone passionate about the period and this form. The caddy easily complimenting a square chest of drawers or small side table with good lines. Measurements: 8 3/16&q

Antique English Oak Tea Caddy 1910 -1920
I purchased this this beautiful little piece in England. Around 40 years ago. It is in very good shape, considering its age. There are small surface scratches, that would probably disappear with a little furniture polish or\wax. Cursive metallic letters spell out the word"Tea" on the front. The inside liner is metal, which has aged through the years. The top edge is decorated with an English oak beaded decoration. The bottom edge looks ok, but there might have been a tiny band of wood or metal, covering this surface, when it was new, 100 years ago. The dimensions are approximately 5 1/4" high& 4 1/2" wide.Contact me if you have any questions, Thanks for looking!

Circa 1890 Mahogany and satinwood No key See description for full condition report, Tea may be common place in every kitchen cupboard in convenient bins. Or disposable steeping bags now-a-day but this box comes from a time when loose tea was a valuable commodity in of itself. Tea caddies were designed and intended to hold tea in way that would be secure from servants and guests that might want to sneak a pinch when no one was looking. Of course they would hardly deter a thief that could simply snatch the box and pick the lock, or smash it at their leisure. Thankfully ... morethis box appears to be one that never fell into such delinquent hands. This piece is a gorgeous antique English tea caddy made sometime around 1890 in England. It is made from mahogany and features a beautifully contrasting satinwood inlay along its edges. Inside the box two small brass knobs allow the easy removal of the compartment covers. The two square compartments offered plenty of storage space. The bottom of on the inside of the lid and the bottom of the piece itself is lined with soft green felt. This piece is quite an eye catcher and would be lovely on any table or display shelf as a conversation piece or storage for small items. This box is in overall good condition. There are a few minor scratches. Dings and small dark stains in the wood, as can be expected of something of such age. The key is missing from this antique English tea caddy, so you will be unable to lock the item unless a replacement is ordered from your local antique lock specialist. The lid will not sit fully flush with the main body along the front right side. There is a dull brown discoloration to the white inlay that frames the keyhole. Here we can see a closeup on of the grain. An example of the m

19C English Sarcophagus Shaped Mahogany Tea Caddy w/Silverplate Bowl and Spoon
A beautiful old English wood tea caddy made of mahogany with light wood stringing. And brass escutcheon, and on bun feet. It has two lidded compartments with a center place for a bowl, that center place may have been repainted. The ring on top is almost certainly original as there is a dark place which has been made on the box by hitting on either side through the years. The box is in very good condition for the age, and may have had some old restorations. There are places on one end which appear to possibly have been damaged and reglued, there is a place on one corner of the backside where a piece of stringing is missing, the red inside lining may have been repainted and the bottom also, not sure of those. These restorations appear to have been professionally done and do not detract from the beauty of the box. The bowl and spoon are not ... moreoriginal but I am leaving them in. The bowl is marked on the side-PORTMAN ROOMS-and on the bottom-Mappin Brothers, Queen's Plate-which dates it to 1865-1903. The spoon has a mark of SN and I do not know who that maker is. There are other signs of wear which should be expected in a very old box but they are normal from age and usage. There is no key with this piece. The caddy measures approx. 11" x 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" tall. ag6 2.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp73%28c%3Eag6%3E2-14be603577a-0x10d-
