Church Roof Trusses-- reclaimed historic timber frame beams
These trusses came from the dismantling of a small church. They are impressive. And their future can be imagined as a new residence. An inspiring studio or workshop, a restaurant or commercial building, 2 or 3 great rooms, a pool enclosure, an open air pavilion, perhaps even a new church! The trusses’ timbers are of a high grade of Douglas fir. And they are large…8x12 x 24’ 8x10’s, and 8x8’s. They were originally planed, chamfered, and precisely fitted as they were fully exposed to the interior of the church. They will make a truly inspiring space in their next life. There are some blemishes and small scars from the dismantling process which could be touched up and the trusses reused as is. Another possibility is the refinishing of the timbers to reveal the naturally warm tone of the old-growth. Fine-grained Douglas fir. Dismantled 300 year old antique 18th century timber frame house post & beam
I am selling a somewhat complete Early 1700s Connecticut River Valley center chimney house that has been recently dismantled and stored mostly in a 53' dry Van box road worthy trailer that comes with the building. The interior has been stored in a seperate dry building.The Yale House has been occupied by the Yale Family since the mid 1700s untill recently.Building is first or second Quarter eighteenth century. 10 large rooms 4 are 14' 6" x 17' 6" the building dimensions are 38' 5" wide x 31' 5" deep. Ceiling heights are first floor 7' 6" second floor 8' third floor attic 6' 10" under the collar ties the roof is a 10" per ft pitch. This building is a rare vertical oak plank exterior sheathing timber frame, the planks are attached with wood pegs, there are no studs or braces ... morein this building. The roof is a purlin type with 12 rafters. Vertical oak sheathing is lap joined to the weather. Original paneling, Two raised panel chimney walls,three raised panel wainscott walls, two walls with single board wainscott. Twenty six full walls of feather edge board type paneling three rooms are in 18th century paint.Blue, Red, White wash. The southerly second floor room has a rare dressed board ceiling. the doors are three&high style four raised panel& two board featheredge type. Hinges are mostly original H& H L, all the latches have been changed. All the floors are original oak and some rooms are poplar one of the second floor rooms had two layers of wide period board floors. The first floor deck flooring was not salvageable, they usually dont survive. The house was re sided in the late 18 th century when windows were added to the facade and the double door entry was removed,It was very common to up grade to more windows. The clap boards that were on the house are early sawn pine and have period rose head nails in them there is a few original beaded oak clapboards were still on the back side of the building every thing has been saved.including the

Wood handle is exceptional with no cracks chips or repairs. The blade is a laminated blade with harder steel on the bottom to maintain the edge and softer on top for strength. I bought two of these when I built my timber frame. house. I am keeping my first one and am selling this one. This is a heavy duty 2 and one half pound maple head mallet with a 160 mm. handle. It has been used only to drive two pegs for a video. You can see the few marks on the face. The original wax and finish is still on the sides and handle. There are two small red spots on the handle where it received overspray while I was spraying my equipment. This mallet is in almost new condition. This is a TISCHLER E.C.E Model ECE Nr, 213 S mallet I think it was made in Werkzeug.

Antique 1800s Buckeye Boring Machine Barn Timber Frame Beam Auger Drill + wrench
I have other antiques listed as well. This a RARE find especially with the wrench the original wrench is still attached to the inside of the machine these are always missing after 120 years the wrench gets lost but somehow this one is still there I showed it in the pics there is a wire that holds it in place on the inner rail. This has 2 different size gears so they would drill a pilot hole first then flip the drill over and drill the bigger hole. This was pretty quick for way back then. The top also tilts for angled drilling. These are hard to find in any condition the last one I had had a break and repair and it still brought 488.00 this one has no breaks or repairs and it spins great.

vintage hand saws old quality carpenter tools timber frame joinery finish work
Here is a good group of older handsaws in good working order. All have good wood handles and Warrented Superior medalions with eagles. There is a nice little panel saw that is 20" long and filed 12pt. I can make out Chicago and maybe 112 but thats all. There is a 26" marked King Philip that is filed 7pt cross cut. Last is a 26" blade filed 5 1/2pt. All have visible etches that might come back but all are usable with some tuning. A nice lot for the shop. The edge is well formed and fairly clean and crisp although the cutting action is dull in practice. If you wanted to use this tool it will need some final honing work. Measures 23 3/4" long overall. The chisels edge is 3 5/8" wide. The hallmark logo is faded on the left side but I believe it originally read'L. H. WATTS. 83 AVENUE D, NEW YORK' a former boat building area during the early 1800's which is my guess as to how old this tool is. There is a small chip out of the back with a very fine hairline crack out of it's corners. It doesn't seem severe or dangerous to the functionality of the tool. THIS IS AN OLD TIMBER-FRAME BORING MACHINE USED IN THE LATE 1800S/EARLY 1900S TO SPEED UP THE TIME IT TOOK PEOPLE TO BUILD TIMBER FRAME BARNS. HOMES, BUILDINGS OF ALL SORTS USING BEAM CONSTRUCTION WITH MORTISE AND TENON FEATURES.IN OTHER WORDS, NOT USING NAILS. THERE ARE NO NAMES OR WRITINGS ANYWHERE ON THE BORING MACHINE INDICATING WHERE IT WAS MADE OR WHO MADE IT. WHICH MEANS IT IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE OLDER ONES. NEWER ONES THAT APPEAR IN THE 1902 SEARS AND ROEBUCK CATALOG DO HAVE PLATES AFFIXED WITH THE STORE'S NAME AND DATES THEREON. THIS PIECE HAS WOOD THAT IS ALL BROWN. PROBABLY PAINTED OR STAINED, AND REMAINED THE SAME OVER THE YEARS. IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE CAST IRON METAL IS ALSO IN VERY GOOD SHAPE WITH NO DENTS OR SCRAPES ANYWHERE. BEFORE THIS IMPLEMENT EXISTED. HAND BORING MACHINES WERE USED AND WERE EXTREMELY SLOW. IT MEASURES 26 INCHES HIGH BY 28 1/2 INCHES LONG BY ABOUT 26 INCHES WIDE. CONSIDERING THE ARMS. IT WEIGHS 25 POUNDS. MY PARTNER DID USE THIS MACHINE IN THE 1980S IN HIS TIMBER FRAME BUSINESS BUT GRADUATED TO MORE MODERN METHODS.SO THE MACHINE DOES WORK. Charles Buck 2 inch Timber Frame Chisel
Big old Charles Buck timber frame chisel. Bought a long time ago from an old tool collector. Technically this could be referred to as an oval back framing chisel. I spent a couple of minutes working the face on a lapping plate, seemed to be flattening well- see the picture. Still a bit of set-up to go. Nail polish collection catalog number on handle, also in picture. The handle is offset just a bit, like a slick. Substantial tool. The pictures are a major part of the description. Antique Timber framer's chisel 1 1/2" wide x 27" long with mirror polished body and oak handle. This chisel is in great condition but the pictures made the polished sections come out very dark for some reason. the edge will need some light touch up and honing but it otherwise in perfect condition. there are some letters stamped into the body but they are hard to make out. The raised angle of the handle allows for very easy smoothing of the long face of your tenon or the sides of a deep mortise without busting your knuckles. this is a very smart design but not often seen on these big chisels. This is more of a slick and as such it has never been hit on the back with a hammer. it is used razor sharp to make final fitments and adjustments to your timber joinery. antique BIG 12 inch SIMMONS & CO BROAD AXE HEAD log cabin timber frame hewing
Up for sale is this antique large 12 inch broad axe head. It is stamped with the makers name' SIMMONS& COMPANY CAST STEEL WARRANTED' Weight is 7 pounds. Measures 9 inch long cutting edge to hammer head. Cutting edge measures 12 inch. These were used for hewing the square beams and logs for the homes and barns of the first settlers here in Iowa. This is an old one and has a great rusty old patina from hanging unused in the barn for lots of years. It is not cracked or broke. Would make great rustic decoration in your log cabin or post and beam home. This one has light pitting on the flat side that could be lapped out, the cutting edge sharpened, and the axe put back to use if desired.
