Hi this auction is for ONE antique spindle/baluster. I have 15 to list. And I will combine. Please wait for an invoice if buying more that one.I will ship the best and most economical way. Listed is a nice. Circa 1880's, antique wood porch baluster, or railing piece. These balusters have many uses. The pieces are all the same, but if you turn them on different sides, you can achieve a different look. The approx size of each is: 21" tall, almost 3.5"one one bottom side, and 3 1/8" on the other side. Please keep in mind( if you order more than one) that the length might differ super slightly. you might have to trim one end to have the exact size. Also please keep in mind that these were torn off of a porch and there could be damage and wood loss on the bottoms. Please see photos. The paint is a white shade, slight to no chippy ... morepatina. Antique Flat Wood Porch Railing Baluster Restore Architectural Salvage
This Buy It Now auction features flat wooden balusters removed from a 19th century house in Mathews County. VA. This listing is for one baluster, but I am happy to offer a combined shipping discount if purchasing more than one. Please email me for a quote. While the balusters came from the same railing, they are not absolutely uniform in size down to the nth degree. They range in length from 23 1/2" to 23 3/4" and are approximately 4 7/8" wide at ends. They are 7/8" thick and weigh about 1 1/2 lbs. each. After laying them out on the ground, I noticed that four of the balusters had a smaller(1 1/4" cutout in the center. The rest of the balusters have cutouts that measure 1 5/8" Please let me know if you have a preference. All balusters show chipping paint, nail holes, and some degree of wear. These carved oak balusters are in excellent condition: no major cracks. Repairs or issues. They have been used and show a few chips. Bumps, rubs and indications of age and experience. These are both flat on one side and were mounted against a flat surface: they are not completely round. I have lightly washed these but have not sanded or extensively worked on them in any way. They have a small fraction of their original finish. Giving them a muted, shabby but chic color tone. Being oak, and in very nice shape, they would strip and refinish with a stain to tones from golden oak to as dark as you like. Probably salvaged from a porch railing or exterior stair railing. These have many coats of paint with crazing and chipping. One of the spindles is missing a chunk of wood from a block end and another is missing some wood from one side of the turnings. Each weighs about 1 lb.
