Here we have for bid are these 2 very ORNATE NICE Handrail Brackets. These BEAUTIES are about 5 inches long from top of mounting bracket to the end of the hook and the mounting bracket is 3 1/8 inches long with three holes. These appear to be HEAVY cast iron and I can't tell with the old patina as the back of the plate have a bronze color so I don't know for sure. These are very NICE and SOLID with no chips or cracks. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid ... moremahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Each step is covered in gorgeous green leather. A beautiful and interesting addition to any home or office. The turned mahogany balance pole is capped with a brass top. Have Questions? I have some very nice pieces that I took out of one of my houses before it was demolished. I took all the parts for a staircase. Everything that you need except the steps. There are 2 Newel posts, the housed and open stringer(very thick) all the shaped, not square ballusters and all the handrails, even the trim that goes in between the ballusters. These all have white paint over them. But can easily be restored. I have restored many of my own items, and I know how beautiful these stairs will look. They would cost a fortune to find a solid piece of oak this large! I also have tons of door and window trim, and doors too. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more pictures and measurements. The pictures of the refinished stairs are not the items that I have. But look similar if they were restored.

Here is the perfect solution to your period-perfect home renovation or the repair of your existing balustrade or stairway! Use these 12 balusters. All measuring approximately 27" long, to replace broken or missing balusters or to create a new, antique-look stairway or balcony. These balusters have just been removed from a 1900 row house in Yonkers. NY. They appear to be solid hardwood- most probably oak- and are all painted white, but have some chips in the paint. This will require either a light sanding and repainting or complete stripping to bare wood and refinishing. Some still have finishing nails, indicating their age may not be as far back as 1910, but all appear to be at least 50 years old, but with the exception of the paint surface, in very good condition. This Antique Thurston LAVA TUBE With Rickety Stairs Hawaii RPPC Real Photo Postcard came from a nice estate in Pittsburgh. Take a walk in the dark through Nahuku. Known as the Thurston Lava Tube, a 500-year old lava cave located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Lava caves like this are formed when a river of lava gradually builds solid walls and a ceiling. When the lava flow stops and the last of it passes downhill, a cave is formed. These caves can be a few feet high and only yards long, or they can stretch for miles with high ceilings. There are several lava tubes you can visit around the island but Nahuku is the most easily accessible and is a fantastic example of a massive lava cave. Lit by electric lights, with a flat rock floor and a ceiling high enough in the center to keep you from scraping your head, this is a great introduction ... moreto lava tube geology. The solidified drips and waves of once-liquid lava rock clearly show the molten forces that created this cave. Your flashlight reveals beautiful shapes and colors of minerals leeching from the rock. After strolling the short, lighted section of Nahuku, there’s another segment past the steps leading back up the trail that’s completely dark with an uneven floor, so don’t venture there unless you are sure-footed and have a strong flashlight. But for the able-bodied adventurer, a walk of 50 yards or so into this part of the lava tube will give you an intense experience, especially if you turn off your flashlight. A nd take note of the additional information on the right side of the listin g. This finial measures about 11" tall. The rectantgular base measures 9 1/2" x 7 3/4" It weighs about 4 lb 13 oz. I am not sure where this piece came from. I obtained it as-is. It has some condition issues(beyond the heavy ruse on the base) The metal on the sphere part of the finial has torn at the top and bottom(the bottom tear is pointed out in a photo below) The two halves of the globe don't sit quite right. And can be shifted easily out of position. The central screw needs to be loosened and the parts reseated to get a get a good fit. This is a wonderful antique tin type photograph of a man posing at the bottom of the stairs. The photograph is not in great condition and for some reason at some time a number was pencilled onto the front of the image(140104) the meaning of which precludes me. The corners are cut on the left hand side and the metal a bit buckled. So really the condition can only be treated as barely okay taking into account the mystery number and the condition of the metal plate but still a nice addition to your collection. Measures about 3 3/8th inch by 2 1/8th inch. An estate find.
