It has an elaborately carved floral and scroll crown and sides. Below the doors is a carved drawer as shown in the photos. It stands on carved cabriole legs and scrolled feet. Three adjustable shelves come with the armoire. As with all antique armoires. Wood supports can be placed in any of the carved slots running the entire length of the piece inside. An option for repurposing this armoire is to strip the silver from the mirrors, leaving the original glass thus making the armoire a display cabinet. Provincial Louis XV French Pine Wedding Trousseau/Armoire
Dimensions 7'5" h x 50" w x 20" d This listing is for a beautiful Louis XV provincial pine armoire/trousseau. This style of carvings on this piece were typically done on a wedding trousseau. A father would carve it as a gift for his daughter and give it to her on her wedding day. This armoire is in very good condition and shows the normal signs of wear associated with its age. The carvings are lovely and the wood has an excellent patina.

Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. This imposing Louis Philippe Armoire is crafted in solid oak. The Armoire comes completely flat and can be assembled in about 20 minutes. The armoire stands on ogee scroll feet and a cut out plinth. To the inside there are 3 shelves. One with a full width drawer and one having 3 drawers below it. The middle drawer has a lock but no key so I can put a button knob on this one if required. All this is enclosed with a pair of panel doors complete with decorative carving and molding. The left hand door is held shut with a simple sprung catch. While the right hand door closes on to it and is held shut with original working lock and key. LOUIS XV - STYLE FRENCH ARMOIRE - 1890-1910 Found by J Peterman
I wonder what wonderful tales it could tell us if only. Where its life began. We cannot say for certain, however, this armoire was said to have come from France before finding it's way to the U.S. and being drafted into service by the legendary retailer, Peterman, as a display cabinet. When we first saw it, it had rather indecorously been filled with piles of Peterman clothing in the midst of a shopping frenzy when they closed their stores years ago. We rescued it and brought it home to become a part of our eclectic collection of furnishings. It has taken a few re-locations in its stead since, but, alas, we're streamlining and must pass it one to someone else who will add new pages to it's story. We"placed" its twin a couple of months ago and the owner was so delighted that she sent us pictures of it in its new home! ... moreIts crown bears the wonderful carving that is the hallmark of the Louis XV design. As do the drawer front and front legs. It appears to be crafted of walnut and shines beautifully with a little polish. It has no key however the lock mechanism is intact and functional. While it does evidence the wear and tear of age, as do all of us that have experienced life to the fullest, it is still a lovely addition to any room and still quite capable of doing it's job of holding other treasures. It has mountings for a shelves(the latter not included as it wasn't when we bought it. There are some areas of wear on the mirrors(see photo) but these neither detract nor interfere with the mirrors' function, in fact, depending upon one's age, this can be an advantage. The top is completely closed and serves as a great place for display things. hats, florals, etc. Previous owner added supports to crown that are not visible unless you are looking down on the piece from above. I do believe that it is original. Measurements are 96" Tall 50" wide 19 inches deep. There is a drawer at the bottom and three shelves. It is sturdy. I see no structural defects. There is some fading and the normal wear you would expect from a piece this old. The mirror glass is the original My beloved Great Aunt Ruth passed at 102. Aunt Ruth lived each year to the fullest! Offered here is a gorgeous Large Antique Louis XV Style Walnut Armoire(French) circa 1880-1910. This piece is in very nice condition. It features beautifully carved provencal style flowers with basket at center. With a serpentine shaped apron raised on cabriole legs and original hardware. It features 1 shelf, but more could be added and the original key. The only flaws to mention is a split in the floor of the piece that does not affect the armoire structurally(see picture) and repair to repair to back legs. This piece is a great decorator piece! This extraordinary unique piece features a very rare arched top with intricate carvings that extend down both sides and on to the feet. You can definitely tell that this particular craftsman had a deep love for his work as this armoire is truly a work of art. In my many years of collecting and researching rare antiques. I have never seen another like it. This gorgeous unit dating to the very early 1900’s was shipped to the U.S. in 2003. It measures 84” Tall by 81” wide and a full 24”deep. The center door is a full 35” wide(again. Extraordinary design) with the side cabinet doors at 20.5“ The armoire retains the original beveled glass mirrors on the face of the center cabinet and on the inside of ... moreboth of the side cabinet doors providing a panoramic view when both side doors are open. The original un-restored dark walnut finish on the exterior and burl panels highlights the blond interior. The unit shows very little signs of wear and the mirrors have the typical haze and spotting that were common of the era. All the hardware is excellent except one door pull that is in need of repair as the clasp that holds it to the door is broken. The original locks on each door are intact but I do not have the key. It can be obtained through any locksmith. This fine example of French craftsmanship breaks down for easy shipping. It is doweled as well as bolted together for a perfect fit when re-assembling and I will include assembly instructions. It is a two person job to assemble and will take approximately an hour. There will be a 150.00 crating and packaging fee that will be added to your final winning bid if you chose to have the unit shipped. The reason being. Quite Sectacular Cabintry work this Louis XV Style armoire tht dates to the 1st Quarter of the 20th Century. Signed MERCIER FRERES, PARIS. MERCIER FRERES was a distinguished French Design and Furniture manufacturer founded in the late 19th century and continuing into the 20th. 1924 was the year Mercier Freres was chosen to represent France in the Grand Cental Palace in Exposition de Francaise de New York. I love to research. Am by far an expert but believe this dates to this time period. I have taken well over 35 photos of this piece(cannot figure out how to post more! simply to show how beautifully it assembles and disassembles-in which I have done several times which is why I have chosen the photos that I am posting. I have enjoyed this wonderful piece for many years and did bring it on my last move with all intensions of being able to enjoy for many more-it is just too tall for my home and in need of a 10 foot ceiling to be appreciated. The Armoire is in wonderful condition and holds its original silk satin lining. I had left this for its antiquity and protection to the wood that appears to be in pristine condition. Please see the photos. The hand carved crown is in excellent condition, I have saved one photo spot for this which I will add by tomorrow night. The wood is solid walnut and walnut veneers. Assembled the armoire measures 104" in height- 8' 7" 56" wide at maximum point and just about 20" deep. It truly is in excellent condition for its age, has been well loved and cared for and it shows. Antique French Provincial Louis XV Style Shabby Chic Old White Carved Armoire or Entertainment Center with Bonnet Top Vintage 1900's reproduction of a french provincial Louis XV style solid carved armoire painted with Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint. Distressed and finished with Annie Sloan Clear Wax and Dark Wax to highlight and accentuate the detailed carvings in this magnificent piece. This armoire has undergone several hand finishing processes to creates a perfectly aged look and feel. Although we are unable to determine the manufacturer. I have consulted with a antique dealer who has verified that the age of this piece is more than likely produced in the early 20th century circa 1920's.
