Viking or Merovingian ZOOMORPHIC decorated bronze sheet belt part ?
A most interesting fragment from a bronze belt? or similar embellished piece. It is decorated with a representation of zoomorphic animal faces. the piece is@ 1 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches long, although it is only a short section, what remains of this belt is in solid condition and the decoration is clearly visible to the naked eye. The pattern probably covered the whole belt, it is formed by a series of punched dots. The dots are very small, struck with a fine sharpened point, they do not pierce the bronze only leave an embossed mark. The animal heads are distinct, but i cant identify what they represent. Many zoomorphic designs represent specific creatures but others are generic creatures just to form a pattern. this was found in the south of France in the languedoc region which is west towards the Pyraneese mountains. From the style i ... moream inclined to think that this could be Merovingian in origin. It is similar to viking designs but seems to be from an earlier period, where it was found is a known centre for Merovingian culture so this could also be an indication of it's origin. An interesting item, worthy of further research, i have drawn on a piece of paper as near as i can what the design is incase the photographs do not show it clearly. Listed up at a very sensible start price, there is not much about to buy from this era in history that is decorated. WE SHIP WORLDWIDE- 1. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ITEM. EXTREMELY RARE !! UNLISTED MEROVINGIAN - CLOTAIRE I - GOLD SOLIDUS
ANCIENT NUMISMATIC COINS EXTREMELY RARE and UNLISTED! MEROVINGIANS. Uncertain. temp. Clovis I– Clotaire I. Circa AD 491-560. AV Solidus(20mm. 4.29 g, 6h) Struck possibly in the name of Byzantine Emperor Anastasius but the obverse legend is blundered and illiterate that it could be maybe deliberate unlike the reverse legend which legend is readable and correct in spelling. this can be caused if there was a political conflict with the emperor of the Byzantine empire as no solidus could be struck in any other name but the emperor of Byzantine at this time and this was a way to deny his authority. helmeted and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with soldier on horseback motif/ VICTORI A AVGGG AI" Victory standing left, holding long cross; star to right; II/CONOB. THIS COIN IS VERY UNUSUAL ... moreFOR SEVERAL FACTS THE FIRST IS THE PELLET BETWEEN THE WING and THE BACK OF VICTORY. A VERY UNUSUAL DESIGN in MEROVINGIAN COINAGE as this is something more common in Visigoths and Ostrogoths coinage also the letters AI at the end of the reverse legend AVGGG AI. this is style used on dating carthage byzantine gold solidus and was copied on some Merovigian solidii. another possible explanation if the the AI is the mint location. ef. The Merovingians claimed descent from the legendary fifth century AD leader of the Germanic Salii, Merovech. Initially foederati of the Romans. The Franks migrated into northern Gaul, where they settled and established petty kingdoms, the smaller of which were soon united under Clovis[Clodowech] AD 481-511) the founder of the Merovingian dynasty. BEADS 7: Asian Beadwork, Merovingian & Hungarian Beads, Sarawak Orang Ulu
BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers is devoted to furthering knowledge about beads and beadwork of all periods. Materials, and cultures. This issue contains 104 pages and 10 color plates. Questions? Just ask. The winning bidder will need to add $3.50 for postage to the United States(more for Canada and overseas) We will combine purchases where possible to keep postage costs down. We accept PayPal and some other payment options. Payment due within 5 days of auction’s end. Beads 7(1995) contains the following articles: Fascinating and diverse beadworking traditions have flourished in Asia for more than 1000 years. With the preponderance of surviving specimens dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. Based on a lecture presented at the Third International Bead Conference in Washington, D.C. in 1995, this article introduces Asian ... morebeadwork as a fruitful topic of inquiry for bead specialists. Representative examples produced in the last millennium by various cultures in South Asia, mainland and island Southeast Asia and East Asia are shown and discussed. Although they certainly testify to the material wealth of their makers, in many cases these pieces also carry spiritual implications. As the study of Asian beadwork is still in its infancy, it is hoped that this article will inspire others to conduct further research on the subject. This paper presents a classification for beads of the Merovingian period(ca. A.D. 450-750) in the Lower Rhine region of Germany. Strings of beads recovered from graves are ordered by a seriation(correspondence analysis) which results in an ethnic(Roman vs. Frankish) and chronological structuring of the material. By comparing this with the chronological scheme established for the other archaeological finds. It becomes evident that the favored types of beads changed about every two generations. Besides changes in distinctive types, a development in general color preference is also observed. Social Status Gradations Expressed in the Beadwork Patterns of Sarawak's Orang Ulu

In modern times Paris has become known as a center of culture. As a place where sophisticated well dressed men and women glide along looking like super models. A place where trendy writers, poets and pop stars hang out, write, and create. But the truth of it is that Paris is a sinister and savage place- it is a city built on sacrifice and ... morea city that owes its fame and power to black magic rites, to sacrificial rituals and to dark nefarious practices that date back to ancient Sumeria, to Babylon and to Arcadia! Back in the 5th and 6th centuries the city of Paris was a swamp. It was filled with wild beasts and savage warriors known as the Parisi who like all those before them- and all those who came after them, believed in the power of human sacrifice. Indeed, they had a special place they considered sacred where their slaves and captured kings and queens were put to death and that place was in the tunnels that, today, have been concealed by the Pont D'Alma- the very same place where Diana, Princess of Wales, was sacrificed in a black magic ritual on the night of August 31st 1997. The site today is criss crossed by the catacombs, the sewer system, and the busy roads and walkways that all converge on this one point. Why? This is a sacred point, a place where many great and dark ley lines converge, and where the Rose Line cuts straight through as it makes its way across France, over the Channel to England, and up through to Roslyn Chapel in Scotland- home of the Templar Knights who hid the head of Christ before b

Rare Merovingian / Frankish Migration Period Silver Boar Mount - 500 AD
A Merovingian Frankish cast silver mount in the form of a boar. Dating to 500- 600 AD. The tusks cleanly indicated and the neck with crossed niello decorative patterns. The eye a circular garnet. With its garnet eye and sleek curving head. This beautiful piece recalls the style of the more common bird headed mounts of the Merovingian period, yet the artistry shown here is far more accomplished. When one pictures the early Dark Ages. It conjures images of a murky, violent and anarchic period, when the greatest empire the world had ever known slipped into the cultural shadows. France-Merovingian Denier 511-58 EF40 ANACS King Childebert I Frank Paris Unique
France-Merovingian Denier 511-58 EF40 ANACS King Childebert I Frank Paris Unique. The Kingdom of Frankia was established by Clovis I in 496. Upon his death in 511 the kingdom was divided up among his four sons. Childebert I was the third son and became King of Paris. Coins of Childebert are extremely rare and extremely difficult to find for sale. When they are found they’re either the Byzantine style gold tremessis or the bronze nummus which are the two types listed in Medieval European Coinage vol. 1. However a brief mention is made of silver coins in the first volume of Traite de Numismatique du Moyen Age p.59 by Arthur Engel and Raymond Serrure published in 1894. The authors state that someone is in possession of a fragment of a coin that matches the one we’re offering up for sale. A fragment! We believe that this denier is otherwise undocumented ... moreas we’re unable to find any other reference to Childebert I deniers. This was an amazing find and we were not only shocked when we attributed it but also when the experts at ANACS agreed with us. Whether you’re a collector of French Merovingian or Parisian coins this would be an amazing and unique addition to your collection and one we feel sure which will not be found again once sold.
