Cushions upholstered in a blue and white sailboat motif. A Morris chair is an early type of reclining chair. The design was adapted by William Morris's firm, Morris& Company from a prototype owned by Ephraim Colman in rural Sussex, England. It was first marketed around 1866. The design features a seat with a reclining back and moderately high armrests, which give the chair an old-style appearance. The characteristic feature of a Morris chair is a hinged back, set between two un-upholstered arms, with the reclining angle adjusted through a row of pegs, holes or notches in each arm. The original Morris chair had dark stained woodwork, turned spindles and ... moreheavily decorated upholstery, in typical Victorian style. The chair was widely copied after Morris' introduction, and is still manufactured. The appearance and style of upholstery is usually quite different to Morris' but the overall layout is constant. Binghamton Chair Company New York Morris Chairs Antique Windsor Armchair
From my research. The remaining bottom label of this classic, American antique Windsor chair puts its creation between 1880 and the 1920s by the renowned Binghamton Chair Company out of Binghamton, New York. Bow-back, continuous armchair. Signature Windsor turning of arm supports to match turned legs. Distinctive notch on arms. Not positive as to the wood. Company info for the time period suggests mahogany or oak, but I do not think this is oak, so I will guess mahogany. Original dark stain. I have not polished this with any product. Simply wiped down with a dry, soft cloth. Tried to show actual condition all around. A couple of spindle tops need to be put back in but are undamaged otherwise, other wear hopefully visible in pics.

Oak Clawfoot Morris Chair
I just love Morris chairs because they were the forerunner of todays recliners and were created over 100 years ago. This one is especially nice because it has paw feet. Beading across the stretcher and the reclining mechanism is accessible to operate while remaining seated. It was refinished several years ago and remains in excellent condition. The chair has been newly refinished in a dark oak stain in the tradition of the original. Antique Paw Foot Oak Morris Chair Complete Parts Restoration Project ~ Free Ship
A very kind eBay visitor wrote to tell me that this is a Larkin No. 65 Improved Morris Chair. Made from about 1904 to about 1908. Unfortunately winter is coming soon. But you might benefit from this worthwhile project. This chair features nicely carved paw feet and arm rests, and geometric details along the front of the seat. All the hard work has been done. This chair has been disassembled and nicely stripped. They did a good job of stripping, without damaging the nice original details of the chair. A little bit of cleanup still to do. There is some damage to the paw feet, but no major problems. Please look at photos closely. As far as I can tell. This includes all the original parts, except as noted here. One of the spindles is a new replacement. It is slightly oversize, so it should be easy to work it down to the correct fit. Appears that ... moreone of the rolling castor feet broke many years ago, so someone attached stationary metal foot bits to the bottoms of the legs. The original wheels are included. One is missing the roller, and the other three are missing the sleeves. Those should be simple to replace, if you desire to get this nice chair rolling again. Otherwise this chair is ready for a crafty person to finish cleaning up, and put back together. Minor splinters, cracks etc will need to be finished and glued. Some nails will need to be replaced, and other parts will need to be reglued. I will need to unscrew the center hinges for shipping. Also there are a couple old nails hanging out that I might need to remove before shipping. There are two support pieces with four holes each. I'm not sure what those are for. They will need screws. It would be hard to find another Morris Chair this nice that includes free shipping in the USA. Also. This is a pretty interesting find today that came out of a small antique shop in Duluth. Mn. Interesting enough that it is a rare carved Griffin head Morris recliner and in near perfect shape, it is remarkable that this is the second one of these that I have come upon in 25 years of being in the antique business and both of these were right here in my home town and discovered about 3 days apart. More than you wanted to know but I had to share that with you. As you can see, the upholstery is nothing to brag about but the rest of this chair is exquisite. R.J.Horner production? I don't know but it is the style he made famous around 1890. Solid Oak Morris Chair With Paw Feet
This is a massive. Oak Morris chair that has been re-glued and refinished and has newer upholstery. Notice the huge paw feet and the impressed design on the skirt and the legs. After the original posting of this chair I re-glued it, re-tied the springs underneath, replaced the two missing rear wheels and ordered a replacement bar for the back adjustment.

This is an original antique child size 3-position Morris Chair. Solid quarter-sawn oak, slat side, flat arm, in excellent condition. There is no damage or repairs and no repairs needed. Vintage Morris Style Wood Chair w/ pull out footstool / push button recline
Up for auction is a Morris style chair. The chair is very unique featuring a pull out foot stool that flips over and swivels to desired foot position and a ebony button on armrest that controls the recline of the chair. The recline and footstool hardware does work. I could find no maker name on the chair. The chair does have a couple nicks in wood under one armrest(i tried to get a good shot in one of the pics) but nothing major. The fabric is a green color and could use good cleaning. The chair measures about 37" tall.28" from arm rest to armrest, 22" armrest to ground, and 28inches long. Morris Recliner. Not sure of the wood but it is stained red. Oak was typically used and stained. The upholstery was redone using a navy blue Waverly pattern. All of the reclining positions work and it's very comfortable. I am not opposed to out of the area of buyers but I will not make arrangements for delivery and/or pay for it. Cook Co in Medina NY on 9 July, 1901. Much as the stamped-out reclining mechanism seems to be limited to Larkin chairs, this cast iron reclining mechanism probably defines a chair as being a product of S.A. Cook and Company. The functional similarity between the Cook and Larkin devices may be accidental but both companies were headquartered in Western New York State and both devices appeared at about the same time. The cast iron hinge seen in this picture may also be a feature only found on Cook chairs. Cook chairs were often elaborately carved and sometimes carried an identifying brass plate at the bottom of the back.

Offered for sale is a beautiful Morris chair that I hate to sell. But must because of a move to a smaller residence. Chair was professionally reglued and refinished when purchased 12 years ago. The chair is tight and the reclining mechanism is fully operational, but can be touchy if you do not take care to fully engage. Antique Haywood Bros. & Wakefield Mission Morris Reclining Chair
We're selling a beautiful. Antique mission-style Morris recliner. It was made by Heywood Bros. Wakefield Company and the original paper label is beneath the arm of the chair. I have a picture of it. A little research told me that Heywood Brothers& Wakefield Company merged in 1897 and the name changed to Heywood-Wakefield in 1921. This is a chair from the early 1900's. The oak wood is in beautiful condition. The recliner mechanism looks to be original and works beautifully. The cushions are made from a nice deep blue material which is very comfortable. The bottom of the chair legs have wooden casters. Dimensions: 28 3/4" across the arms- 30" arms front to back- 17 1/2" floor to seat- 40 1/2" floor to top of back cushion This is a great piece.antique. Vintage and comfortable. Streit Morris Chair Cincinnatti (1907)
For your consideration is an antique morris chair that was manufactured by the Streit Morris Chair Co. of Cincinnatti. Ohio in 1907. It was one of their premier pieces due to the heavy carvings on the arms and paw feet. It was item No. 542 in the 1907 Streit Morris Chair catalogue. I had it reupholstered over thirty years ago by the Lucarreli Bros. of Toledo who own Al's Upholstery Shop and are know for their quality work. The chair looks as good as then because I only use it for decor. The arms have beautiful carvings of lions(gargyles) and huge paw feet. I believe it has the original finish also. The only other non-original piece on the chair is the rod that adjusts the chair in the back. The underside of the seat has it's original wood frame along with pieces of the original label that read-TREIT. It measures approx. 30 in wide ... moreby 32 in long by 38 in tall to the top of the back of the chair. This chair is gorgeous, rare and a unique collectible! You will" Love" it! William Morris Antique Rocking Chair with Footstool Excellent Condition
Morris Rocking Chair with Footstool. NOTE: The footsool is not original to the piece. I would guess the wood on the stool is cherry. But the fabric matches and it is at the right height to hold up your feet at any reclined position. The reclining mechanism was patented in 1901. Estimate this was made about early 1900. Very comfortable and in excellent shape. Sold as is with no known defects. The original reclining mechanism and metal bar with brass ends is also with it. Buyer must arrange shipping. 1900 Antique mahogany morris chair
I'm not sure but this has to be mahogany or cherry. I've looked online at several of the Morris chairs and have not found one exactly like it(the arms& claws) Ones needing redone are priced around $250-300 and are oak. I've researched and seen them advertised from $300-3000. Really not sure exactly what it's worth. But think more than $300.00.

Handmade Morris Chair Family Circa. 1908
We are downsizing. I have several Morris chairs and rockers. I bought these chairs from the great granddaughter of the man who carved them. He saw an advertisement in a Sears Roebuck catalog Circa. 1908 and declared: I can make these! He made a"Gentleman's" chair. A"Ladies" chair and a folding rocker for a small individual or child. The last two are in excellent conditionbut the Gentleman's chair needs reupholstering. It is stuffed with some sort of flour-like sacks, burlap bags and, I believe, horse hair. I pulled back the 60's cover on the Ladies chair so you could see previous upholstery. These chairs are simply carved and beautiful. Not sure of the wood but they look like oak.
