Under the seat fabric is a newer piece of wood for its bottom. There is a crack in the back of the chair that is shown in the last photo which does not go all the way through to the front. An early 1900's,4 slat rear mission style solid oak rocking chair. i am not sure if this is a gustav stickley or a piece from another similar manufacturer of the time. The seat is heavy and obviously reupholstered in the native indian motif. This rocker is solid with no loose pieces whatsoever. Unusual and eclectic. Many begin with a low opening bid and few rarely carry a reserve. Up for your perusal is this fabulous find! This is a beautiful original. Arts and Crafts, Mission, Craftsman oak side chair. Recently acquired from a 1926 Spanish estate here in Los Angeles. I am selling it on behalf of the family. The prior owner, whom recently passed away at age 91, had always used it as a pull up chair in her dining room. The finish is between a medium and dark oak and I believe it has not been refinished. It has a lot of patina. This chair does show mild age wear here and there. There is also a tight age crack to the seat. This does not ... moreaffect structure nor does it detract. I would say these are expected on a chair of this age. Stretcher bars to side. Manufacturer is unknown, but I have seen pieces with similar cut out designs identified as Stickley Brothers. I have taken several pictures and from different angles to show the beauty of this chair. The seat is just gorgeous in person. It is not flat, but arched. Antique Mission Oak Arm Chair Arts & Crafts-- final listing -- lowest price
I have an antique chair that I believe dates from the first quarter of the 1900's. Solid oak, with swirled arms, rattan sides and arts and crafts stylized legs. It was purchased by my husband about 25 years ago. Overall it is in great shape for age. It can use a tiny bit of touch up on the wood where there are a few exposed wood spots. A small piece of the rattan side is deteriorated, as shown in the close up photo. Also, the cushions need new foam to prevent sagging, and new upholstery if the current choice is not to your style. The springs that hold the cushion seem to work fine. This is a very solid chair. Nothing is loose, and for most of the chair the original finish is intact. There is all over wear as you would expect with a chair this old but overall it is in very good condition and ready to use. The leather seat looks original and is attached with the iconic metal"rivets"furniture nails. I am selling 3 of these chairs separately but they were all found together at an estate sale. Only 1 was marked and it has only a partial label that says"Port Washington" This leads me to think the maker was the Wisconsin Chair Company. Check out my! Mission chairs with the original leather seat like this one are quite rare on eBay. At the moment I am unable to find any others like it. This chair could ... morebe used as a side chair. Desk chair, hall chair or as a dining/breakfast room chair. It has a great patina and is a great example of Arts& Crafts carpentry! This is a beautifully crafted side table desk. I believe it to haywood/ wakefield because of the woven caned seat and so strongly resembles their mission style furniture and they did produce school desks of all styles. It would seen to be from a university because of the large size of the seat area. The woven seat is in excellent condition(shocking for the age) It is also finely woven in a twill pattern using very. Very, fine strand cane. Made of oak, the seat is 22" wide at its widest point, overall width is 30" at the widest point and is 36" tall at the top rail. The joints are all snug and overall a very sturdy chair. Just a beautiful piece of furniture that wood enhance any home library. Mission Arts and Crafts Quarter Sawn Oak Rotary Chair H Krug Company circa 1913
This is a Rotary Office Chair produced by the H Krug Furniture Company- Berlin(Now Kitchener) Ontario Canada. This company was known for medium to high-end furniture and the company continues to operate to this day. Every indication is that their products were built to last since this chair has aged remarkably well. This chair has been repaired and restored once approximately 30 years ago and has been used regularly since restoration. All wood and metal components(swivel, tensioner, castors) are original to this particular chair. The chair is solid; all stiles and components are tight and in perfectly functional condition. We have recently downsized and have more furniture than we have space, so it is time to part with some of my old projects. This chair is Model#321 in the company's 1913 catalog(I will email you a copy of the company's ... more1913 catalog if your are interested) The precise year of manufacture is not known with certainty, however, it certainly pre-dates 1916 since that year Berlin(cast on the tensioner knob) was re-named Kitchener, Ontario. The chair shows some signs of wear since restoration, however, it remains in exceptional condition given its age and routine use.
