There are also pinned through tenons at the front and corbels underneath. The front seat rail is beveled and arched and there are double pins at the top and bottom. The original spring seat has been professionally recovered with high quality black leather. The piece is unmarked with is by L&JG Stickley#427. Condition: Used Location: Perkasie, United States American Black Painted Bowback Antique Windsor Chair Early 19th Century Item# 100008WPN02 This is a fine American Black Painted Antique Windsor Bowback ... moreSide Chair. Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century. It has a wonderful black paint over another layer of reddish orange, probably also a layer over the original and currently unknown color. The back of the chair has a graceful bow, carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving through the single solid plank pine seat. The seat is heavily patinated, with deep grooves and wear from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which tenon through the plank seat before being secured with a splint, each held firmly and perfectly in place with a bamboo carved H-stretcher. This is a most charming chair, in excellent condition with wonderful patina and character throughout- the early painted surfaces are probably not the original layers, but seem to protect earlier layers beneath, these quite possibly the earliest surfaces. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine windsor chairs. Measurements: Seat 13.5" wide x 14.5" deep. The seat sits 16" from the ground and the back of the seat is 33.5" high. Condition Report: Paint worn throughout. Probably not the original surfaces. Deep groves and losses in the plank seat. Chips and abrasions throughout. One nail, appears to be modern, on side of chair stabalizing hoop back. Plank seat split with a butterfly joint securing seat from beneath and two screws locking it in place. Chair is structurally strong, but could possibly be too weak to use functionally as a chair. Please review the images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.

The seat is heavy and obviously reupholstered in the native indian motif. This rocker is solid with no loose pieces whatsoever. It does have have some knicks and scratches from use, and will need a good cleaning with some murphys soap, but overall a super fine example. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. I’ve only owned this for the past 15 years. So I don’t know the exact age of this piece, but I assume it’s relatively modern. Be aware that this is a Pickup Only item. I don't have any interest in shipping this item whatsoever. Based on the time it would use up for me to pack and ship this. I would have to charge at least $100 over shipping costs and that might add up to $400 or so. So hopefully someone in the surrounding Milwaukee/Madison/Greater Chicagoland area will have enough interest to make the effort to drive over here and pick it up. The finish is original and except for the usual signs of well maintained reasonable use. This chair is in great condition and has a super nice mature dark cherry finish on it. There are signs of wear from hands on the ends of the arms. But unless you’re a perfectionist. There’s no way this thing needs or should ever get a refinish. No major nicks. Dings, or gouges whatsoever. There are two 6’s or 9’s stamped on the underside of the seat along with an inked 7086. Pretty much what you see with this one is what you get—but the wear and tear I described is still there whether or not it is visible in the photos. Exceptional and rare L&JG Stickley#814 high back chair in very nice original finish. It is over 100 years old and as you can see it has been extremely well cared for. This is a large and very impressive chair with great Arts& Crafts form. Measures 45-5/8" tall. 27-3/4" wide, and 21" deep. The seat cushion is 22-1/2" wide and 19" deep. As the brass plate on the arm shows, this chair was presented to Rev. Herbert Makenzie by the Gospel Church Baraca Class in 1912. That church is no longer in existence but the building still stands on Cedar Rd. in Cleveland, OH. Condition is excellent for a chair made over a century ago. There are two small chips on the post beneath the left arm(see closeup photo next to quarter) but otherwise just normal light surface wear and good original finish. Even the original leather ... morespring seat cushion is still intact. It has crazing to its surface but no tears. The L&JG signature stamp is located on the back side(see closeup photos) I have had this chair in my home for 20+ years and now it is for sale as I prepare to move and downsize. Stickley" around 1905.This reclining"Morris" chair is sound and well preserved. Solid quarter sawn oak has an original finish with some later revarnishing, and has been waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Cushions and upholstery are old but not original on this historic American made Craftsman furniture. The incomplete decal label is in the form of a traditional screw clamp. Joints are secured with authentic round wooden pegs. There are three reclining positions. Adjustable with an oak cross piece.
