IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. Altavista, VA· list of patent numbers(as seen in the picture) Imprinted on the bottom: style# 3043· serial# 451240. This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Being offered for sale is this lovely Empire Mahogany Cedar Lined Blanket Chest with Removable Tray circa 1900. This large blanket chest was made by and marked: Paine Furniture Co. Boston, MA" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston. Ma in 1835 by Leonard Shearer. In 1835 Boston was a small city, but the furniture industry was rapidly growing and in 1872 Shearer opened an huge Paine Furniture Co. Furniture Center. By 1914 Paine Furniture was operating from a ten-story showroom and factory. This fine blanket chest is executed in mahogany with a wonderful cedar lining that offers a lift out cedar tray. This large chest offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities and features full ebonized Corinthian columns with gold accents at the top and base. This chest measures 28 3/4 inches in height.46 inches wide and 21 inches deep and weighs approximately 75 lbs. The lift our cedar tray measures 40 inches long,16 inches wide and 3 inches deep and features cut-out handles on each end. There are some veneer chips here and there on the lid edge and feet. The top does show surface scratches and a dark ring. Lock is intact but we do not have the key. On the inside of the lid by the lock there is additional wear and scratches around the brass lock and small metal braces have been added at some point in time to the right inside back corner. This chest is a wonderful piece to place at the foot of a bed for storage of blankets and linens and is solid and sturdy enough to be a seating area as well and offers substantial storage with classic style. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. Ed Lane later recalled he was"one jump ahead of the sheriff most of the time. When a banker told him the company was insolvent, Lane asked him what that meant. STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. Is painted gray all over and painted with scenes over top, front and one side. Other sides were started but not finished. On the top in the painting of the girl the date of 1948 has been painted in. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. This gorgeous chest weighs about 60 pounds with the internal shelf and is approximately 19.5" front to back. Approximately 48" wide/left to right and approximately 19" high/tall. This chest has the original finish. The detail that went into crafting this chest is astonishing. This chest is in pristine antique condition with very few natural character marks normally expected with antique wood. I particularly like the decorative carving in the center of the front and the beautiful grain on the top which is fairly uniform and straight for a natural walnut. Solid wood with cedar lining. pad bun feet with decorative wood trim on sides and oval in center. wood bench style back of trunk is about 3" high with carved design, the skeleton key lock is original hardware( no key is included) the hinges appear to have been tampered with, lost some nails and replaced, original screws in cedar lining(top and inside of trunk) this would look gorgeous with some love, there are a few paint drips on top as shown, there is wear to bottom of feet, top edge of seat/ chest and top of back design. there is also a faint but short note written in pen on inner edge. please note vintage and used items may have been exposed to pets or smoke. thanks

Contents of chest not included! ON SALE! This is an antique hope chest bench. Solid wood with cedar lining. pad bun feet with decorative wood trim on sides and oval in center. wood bench style back of trunk is about 3" high with carved design, the skeleton key lock is original hardware( no key is included) the hinge screws appear to have been tampered with as shown- lost some screws and replaced. This looks to have original screws in cedar lining(inside top and inside of trunk is cedar) this would look gorgeous with some love, there are a few paint drips on top as shown, there is wear to bottom of feet, top edge of seat/ chest and top of back design. there is also a faint but short note written in pen on inner edge. please see the photos. pick up from 10037 or local delivery possible. Interior is pristine, felt is in excellent condition, no marks, dings, stains, etc. Top of chest has scratches(as seen in pics) I've applied Old English to them& they disappear, just have to re-apply) Bottom veneer is missing.
