Box measures 6 1/8"H ... morex 13 5/8"W x 9 1/8"D. Opened. Box measures 1 1/2"4 1/2"H x 13 5/8"W x 18 1/2"D. Leather writing surface measures 13" x 10 1/2" One side of the writing surface is spring-loaded for opening. It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. This action releases the wood panel below& within there are two secret compartment drawers. These hidden drawers are seen in photos. One brass inlay is missing at one bottom corner. No key. I am not sure if it has ... morebeen refinished or not as it appears to be in original condition, but it is great for the age. It has four dove tail drawer going down the left-hand side and four going down the right-hand side. The center drawer has round dove tail as expected from the Eastlake era. It has burl walnut trim on the fronts with an ogee bevel edge around the routed top. It has a black felt interior on the writing surface that is nice. The finish on the sides is amazing. It has panel sides, rope twisted molding, detail cast brass hardware, escutcheons are intact. There are no keys or locks. The desk is 48 inches wide, 27 inches deep and 30 inches tall. The space for your legs is 19 inches by 25 inches.

He became a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1899. He held that position till 1901. He also was a member of the Connecticut State Senate from 1901 to 1902. He became lieutenant governor of Connecticut in 1903. He held that position till 1905. He became the 44th Governor of Connecticut on January 4, 1905. But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. Antique Traveler's Folding Walnut Writing Desk/ Box/ Secretary* All Original This is a late 19th century portable. Or traveling, writing desk. It is 13 3/4" wide, 8 3/4" deep when closed, and 4" high closed. It is made of nicely figured walnut with brass reinforcements. Everything is completely original. The exterior finish has very fine crazing which is not obvious- you must view it at an acute angle in the light- and VERY few of the minor marks these things usually pick up over a century. There is no real damage or dings. I do not have the key. The hinges are completely solid. The interior wood finish is in nearly the same condition but has about a half dozen wear spots. The velvet pad is original. It is split across the boxe's hinge but I believe it may have been made that way- there in no fraying- and the tab to ... morelift the bottom section is missing. The only real problem is that the velvet, which acts as the hinge for the two compartment lids, is loose from the frame of the box's lid as seen in the fourth pic; this is easily repaired. The compartments are clean and include the original dust. There are two ink bottles- one with its original pewter collar and lid and the other is missing the pewter pieces. The lid for the pen/pencil compartment has ink spilled on it(seen in the pics) but this should clean off if you know how to do that. This is a very early re purposed desk. It is made of walnut. The top of the desk was originally a very old cabinet door as it has hinge markings on the underside. It is well made with wooden pegs. I bought it from a family who told me that their great grandfather was always re purposing furniture in the late 1800's and early 1900's. This desk is from that period. Just found at an estate sale here in Boston a really really nice and completely original American Federal 1820s writing desk with side drawer. Nice Period inkwells. Amazing condition for being almost 200 years old. Nice period piece and very hard to find. All of the hinges are strong including the writing compartments. Nice ivory inlay on the skeleton key face and a wonderful lock mechanism. I've been told this is military because of all of the brass reinforcements. I think it still could be a desk for very wealthy individuals. the very long drawer pulls out smoothly and on very solid condition. ENGLISH made burr Walnut writing slope lap desk from the victorian era approx 1860-1880.lots of inlay. It is in fantastic condition and ready to use. It has had its leather writing surface replaced at some point in its life. Looks good. There have been repairs done in bits on the sides of box.nothing terribly bad and not terribly noticeable. felt on bottom has been replaced. The ink well comparment on one side has dividers and due to a bit of wood shrinkage. They will fall but they stay put if you put them in place and set the lap desk somewhere.the hidden comparment is missing the long piece of wood that has the trigger mechanism on it to hide the 3 drawers.it doesnt take away from the charm or beauty of it.one tiny drawer knob is missing.over all, its in great usable, sturdy condition.ready to be used to write your letters.i have 3 and ... moream keeping two.hard to let one go but i dont write enough letters to justify keeping 3. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Two of the drawer locks are missing, and the back corner brace came loose and needs to be reglued- other than those flaws it is in very good condition.

The hand cut dove tail drawer pulls out with contour corners. The drawer has a maple interior and has a divided section for your pens or articles. The base is gorgeous with multi-turnings, finials, fluted, reeded, applied buttons, burl walnut raised panels and a 2.5” burl walnut border trip across the top. The finish is a medium walnut stain with a satin sheen lacquer. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 30 inches high. It is a fantastic looking writing table. Elegant writing desk 16" long by 9" wide and is 6" in depth. Probably English in origin the leather insert has been lovingly replaced. There are three areas for ink wells plus a walnut covered area for pens. There are two separate storage boxes under ink wells. Measuring 6 3/4" times 2" in width and one inch in height. There is an age crack across bottom, see picture. This is completely handmade with brass brackets on all four corners and has original lock and carrying brackets. Civil War Officers Lap Desk, Nice walnut 1860;s lap writing desk , No Reserve
NO RESERVE on this item This is a Civil War vintage officers lap desk from the 1860's. The lap desk is made of walnut and is the type that would have been used by a Civil War Officer while in the field. The desk is hinged. When opened fully it has a leather writing surface and a compartment area for writing instruments and supplies. The desk also has two storage compartments located under the writing surface panels. When closed the desk measures 13-3/4 inches in length. 8-1/2 inches wide and is 5 inches tall. When opened the desk measures 17 inches in length and has a 10-3/4 by 12 inch writing surface. The top interior section has two compartments for ink wells. A pen tip compartment and a covered ink pen compartment. This writing supply area also has a hidden compartment the is accessed by lifting one of the dividers up. The writing ... moresurface panels lift up to expose large storage compartments which was used to hold letters, documents or extra paper. The lap desk case is made of walnut and still has the original finish. The wood shows a great patina. The desk lid has a inlaid ivory name plate. The front of the lap desk has a small brass key hole cover. The lock still works and I do have the key for the lap desk. Overall condition of the lap desk is very good. The top has a crack where the wood has spread apart from age. This is common on the early lap desks due to the thin walnut panel that was used to make the top. Nice Civil War lap desk. This lap desk was purchased at a estate auction in New London Missouri. The desk belonged to Robert Baker who according to the family was a doctor during the Civil war. I also have a civil war Surgeons box with surgical instruments from the same man listed in my other auctions so please check my other listings. Antique 19th Century Walnut & Brass Writing Slope/Box With 2 Secret Drawers
A gorgeous 19th Century(Regency era? burr walnut folding travel desk with brass inlay and two secret drawers. At the top of the writing surface are three compartments for stamps. Inkwell and pens. Included is the original inkwell with brass cap, and writing instruments and accessories which came with the box. There an open storage area beneath each half of the writing surface and a panel that hides two secret drawers, which are accessed by the careful removal of panels next the inkwell to activate the release spring. Condition as noted above: This writing slope is in very good to excellent condition for its age. The exterior wood and brass inlay and hinges are in excellent condition. NOTE: the key is missing. The interior is in very good to just shy of excellent condition. The brass hinges all work fine. The secret compartment latch and boxes ... moreall work fine. The leather writing surface has dried over the years. But looks great and the gilt edging design looks very nice. Antique 1800's Walnut Writing Lap Desk This is a beautiful antique 1800's walnut writing or lap desk. It is in good condition. All of the wood is in great shape, but it is missing a part of one band that goes over the top(see pictures) The wood is rich and beautiful and this inside contains a tray, a liftable desk top, and overall is lined with red felt. The desk is 14" wide and 9" deep, and 4.5" tall. The removable tray has a place for ink and pens, as well as other resources. A terrific design at a great price! Check out my! Many of these desks were made in England and there are only a few American made Davenport desks.especially labeled with a brass badge with the company name and city and state. The Cincinnati area in Ohio was home to an entire community of top German artists and craftsmen. With four drawers on one side and behind the locking cabinet door is a section of scalloped cubbyholes which would be great for legal or larger than legal sized documents. The top lifts for more scalloped sections for storage and on the very top is a carved. ... moreIncised and dovetailed gallery. The front is paneled with applied burled walnut accents. All of the gorgeous drawer pulls which are brass and wood are original and in excellent condition as are the wooden circular escutcheons on the drawers. The drawers are all hand dovetailed as shown.
