Welcome to my auction! I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique Victorian Walnut Gentlemans Chest circa 1870. This wonderful big tall chest was recently picked from an old Boston area home and is 100% ORIGINAL and in near mint shape! This piece has six drawers. The drawers are all in good condition and have early hand cut dovetails. The drawer fronts are decorated with two raised burled walnut panels each and all six original drawer locks are still present. The original brass and wood drawer pulls are a rare smaller version of the victorian tear drop pulls. Flanking the drawers are beautiful vertical burled columns. This chest is deeper and larger than most, heavier too! It is of great quality and retains a very nice original finish. The top is beautiful, originally had a wooden back splash or gallery and has four holes(see ... morephotos) The sides have four panels, the back boards are all original as well. Dating from the 1850s or‘60s. This is a burl walnut Biedermeier chest that has been refinished a long time ago. It’s in overall good condition, ... morewith only a lamination seam in the thin crown molded top. There are also some little worm holes from a long time ago on the soft wood on the back, and there is a little repair on the molding on the right hand bottom by the foot. It comes with its original key, and all seven of the locks seem to work. Remember, however, that we don’t ever guarantee these old locks to work, and they should be oiled, adjusted, and repaired. It has seven drawers, each standing for a day of the week, and it purposely doesn’t have handles and needs to be locked and unlocked with a key. It has a crown molded top, and handcut dovetails. The interesting part of this chest is that where it comes apart, someone has inked his or her signature: D. Fredricksborg, as well as signing the backboards. It was refinished a long, long time ago, and there is a dark rub mark on the left panel. The overall size is 39.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep, and 64.5 inches tall.
