Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. I'm now back in the UK and the place is(contrary to planning) still mine! So I'm back in the old house again, temporarily, and will be selling a few more things until my final move. Some of these things are items I hadn't intended to sell, so I hope you find something you like! Large 19th Century Oak Chest with Brass Lion's Feet and Older Parts. Used for Bedroom Blanket Box. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. LATE 19th CEN. BRASS BOUND LEATHER TRUNK-BEAUTIFUL PATINA& EXCELLENT CONDITION This beautiful English leather trunk. Dating to the late 19th century, would make an excellent end table. The trunk is covered with brown leather which has a beautiful warm patina. It is bound with brass corners and corners straps, and has brass handles with large backplates on each side. The front has two brass locks and latches. The front and both sides each have a row of copper studs running between the corner straps. The hinged lid opens to a fabric lined interior. The trunk measures 22"w x 20"h x 20"d. Condition: Aside from minor wear. Rubbing and small stains to the leather, the trunk is in very good-excellent condition. This is a rare 19th century wooden trunk in wonderful condition. This wooden trunk has a rich. Dark hue and is bound with iron straps. The rich patina and rivets attest to the age of the trunk. The hand forged handles on each end of the trunk are in perfect condition. The heavy iron hinges and latches are reminiscent of medieval iron pieces. The interior of the trunk is in very nice condition and features fine natural wood. This trunk is still in spectacular condition because it was built by skilled craftsmen. It remains a strong and sturdy piece and has no real damage of any kind. It measures 49 1/2" long x 28 1/2" wide x 20" high. I believe the original latches were altered at some point, but the trunk is all original and will be a fine piece for many years to come. This is 19th century hand dovetailed domed top pine chest with old gray paint and traces of red. The name"Louis Becher" is painted on the side and top. The chest is a really nice medium size(39.5"W. 17"H, 18"D) it could be placed on a large table or on the floor. The exterior shows prolonged signs of use, but the interior is extremely clean. The hardware is all original but there is a missing clasp on the lock. It is very solid, the hinges work well, and it is otherwise completely functional. Beautiful Refinished 19th Century Stage Coach Trunk Solid Wood. Was covered on the outside w/ paper, but most of paper was gone paper was cleaned off. And trunk was sanded, and finished leather straps were added to the trunk. Original ones were gone I chose these straps. As the design on them was much like that of the original paper: The handle on the left side(when facing the front) is the original handle. Amazingly still very sturdy, the other is a replacement, matches very well The loop at the top above the lock is a replacement. Matches the handles The lock could presumably be made to work again. But doesn't at this time, I don't have the key either The lock is beautiful. It is a Jenny Lind style lock, very intricate and beautifully designed The inside is totally lined with leather. An antique miniature chest with wonderful dovetail joints. Footed. It sits on 4 legs. 19 th Century. There is paint on the bottom. Original paint. Lovely warm patina. There are hints of green paint on the outside. This is a beautiful primitive. I measure just over 17 ¼ inches tall by about 26 ¾ inches wide by just under 14 inches deep. A hard to find size. Weighs about 24 pounds. It looks like both hinges have been moved a time or two. There is an inlay patch on the lid near the keyhole. The key hole is quite worn. I’m not sure of the type of wood. The lock is off. There is part of the lock loose on the inside. The box inside may be called a keeper or keepsake or candle box. Antique Victorian Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest Locker Early 1800's or Older This is a beautiful piece. It measure's 37"x19"x16" larger once boxed) and is in really good antique condition. It has a strong patina and the exterior front lock cover has been lost. All of the other hardware. Hinges, handles, corners. And molding braces are in place. It has a scratches and marks all over the outside, but the inside is in great shape. The bottom panel has a crack in it. But it doesn't appear to effect anything. I didn't even see it until I was taking pics of the bottom. It is visible in the pic 8. A few of the previous owners left there names and dates that they owned the trunk during the 1800's. It appears it was passed down through several generations of a family of San Franciscans and San Francisco Bay Area. ... moreI know a little bit about this family through some research. Most of them have an easily traceable history. I am not going to make their names public however. A person of good authority was able to translate the cursive writing under the lid and revealed that the outer trim around the top and bottom of the trunk were installed as protective measures while traveling. Here is what he could make out: These trunk? corners. Top and bottom of trunk can be(revealed, seen, uncovered? by unscrewing the screws and slipping the strips off. Strips only were used while traveling. Here is a little bit more of what this person shared with me: The type of chest you have is the very best. These chests are made by Chinese craftsmen and have invisible dovetails. Incised brass fittings and a floating panel top(to prevent it from splitting in different climates) There was a very active trade with China when San Francisco was a boom town and these chests were brought in by the hundreds. Most have disappeared or are held by descendants of the original owners. The man who did the fitting did it very cleverly– probably a real craftsman who knew what he was doing. 18 th to 19 th CENTURY ANTIQUE EUROPEAN CAMEL BACK TRUNK Up for sale is my 18 th to 19 th Century Antique European Camel Back Trunk that came from the Estate of Lydia Gordon in Santa Cruz. CA(my sister-in-law) The history as I know it is Lydia is from the Netherlands and in 1971 came to America with my brother and brought the Camel Back Trunk with her. I estimate the age to be between the late 18 th century and the 19 th century. Square nails were used to construct this trunk this type of nail was used during this time; they stopped using square nails at the turn of the 20 th century. I had an appraiser look at this trunk and her estimate was around one million in excellent condition. However this trunk is in good condition with the exception of some rough areas such as the wooden wheels. Wooden axel and the trunks stand. 19th Century Antique Trunk Hard To Find Small Size Great Looking Form Design Description: 19th Century Early Antique Trunk Hard To Find Small Size Great Looking Form Design Offered is a wonderful Hard to Find true antique trunk. It is an unusual size and a true antique. Has wonderful metal detailing including fleur-de-lis on the metal straps. There are the initials of the original owner. A. E. P. and 2 paper labels. The top of the inside has the original red with some remaining detailing and some of it is missing. The bottom has a plain paper lining. There is no tray on the inside; that is missing. The original strap or chain holding the top when it is in the open position is gone and has been replaced which you can see in the photos. I have provided many photos to show you the details so please check those out. The photos can be enlarged ... moreto see all the details. The trunk is in as found condition; I have done nothing to it. It was purchased at an Antique Auction. Wonderful Antique condition. No major issues and overall good condition. Be sure to read the entire description and view all the photos. This is an early wood trunk with a cloth. Or canvas, covering. There is some wear to the canvas as can be seen in the photos. There are really nice wooden bands which I believe are oak and then equally as wonderful metal trim around all the edges with very nice detailing such as the fleur-de-lis. Also on the bottom are 4 small castors so the trunk can be moved easily on the floor. There are also very nice metal"bumpers" added to the trunk in strategic places like the top edge and corners along the metal strips as well as the wood to act as bumpers to protect the body of the trunk. Very nice. There is a slight rounded shape to the top of the trunk. Everything with the exception of the chain already mentioned appears to be original including the leather handles on the side which is rare to find in these old trunks. Presumably a 19th century humpback luggage trunk with working hinges and clasps. Has flaws but is mostly complete. Missing one of the four wheels on bottom and handles on either side are gone. The exterior is aged appropriately with no signs of significant damage. Paper is still mostly intact with the exception of a tear on the seam of the upper left compartment and some missing pieces in the bottom right compartment. Antique Doll Trunk 19th C. Camel Back Metal & Wood Charming
Selling is the sweetest antique doll trunk with a domed lid. The trunk measures 16" long. 9 3/4" wide and 12" tall to the dome top. The trunk is made of wood with wood ribs on the outside of the trunk. The trunk is covered with a textured silver tin that is showing some darkening with age. There are metal straps with a black finish on the edges of the trunk and they are held in with small rivets. There are 2 clasps that hold the lid down that look like cast iron. The clasps are marked"Pat. Jul 9 72" The center clasp is brass, although it is old this looks like it was replaced at some time in the past. The lock says Paul Romand. Paris and the street address. Research says that Paul Romand was a late 19th century maker of fine luggage and trunks. Apparently he worked at Louis Vuitton. This is a beautiful and functional steamer trunk. It is in very nice condition- best I can tell from my research it dates to 1892. I know that it was purchased by my husband at an estate auction in Greenwich, CT. In the early 1980's. It is nice as is but I am also aware that these can be restored to an amazing level and that the price for those who can afford it is well worth it as the appreciation is quantifiable! The trunk has original owner's name and city of residence on the end(pictured) as well as remnants of stickers or decals from travel. It has wheels and measures 36" long x 22" tall x 20" deep. This is an old key for some Star Lock Works trunk locks that have the straight vertical slot and the April 1877 patent date(see pictures) The key measures 1 1/2" long and is the style that fits many of the smaller Star locks. It may not work for every one of these but they have worked on the ones I have had in the past. It is an original Star Lock Works trunk lock key. Very hard to find. Antique 19th Century Dome Top Chest Steamer Trunk ~ Late 1800's. Rustic. Lock is intact and closes but there is no key. Inside is lined with original fabric. Top Leather Straps are missing but do not take away from the antique look. see photos) This Steamer Trunk has been in my family for a few generations and was handled by the original Los Angels Transfer Company(see cool company sticker on the side of the trunk- notice the 1940's phone number of TRinity 1001) This is a low dome top trunk as opposed to some of the higher domes on the market. Victorian Era English Flat-Top Trunk Named: J. A. Galliers Click on photos to SUPERSIZE! Here's a truly fantastic. 19th Century, antique travel trunk for you. This flat-top trunk measures 32" x 19" x 13" The trunk is constructed of black painted metal with wooden gussets. The interior is lined with copper painted metal(I think it may be brass) The trunk has four handles and a key lock on front(the key is missing) There are two cast-iron latches on the front. These latches give the trunk a very unique antique appearance that I don't believe I've seen before. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this fine looking trunk is the markings. The trunk is named in white script"J. A. Galliers" It also has"C/O A.E.O. La Libertad. Unaccompanied Baggage" written on top. The side of the trunk has remnants ... moreof a paper tag. I can just make out a bit of the script which reads in-part: Williamson Merchant, Grace)Church Street, London" The lock is marked"4 Best English Lever" These are the only markings on the trunk. I did a google search for J. A. Galliers and found that there was an author named"John Albert Galliers" living in London. This gentleman passed away in 2011 at the age of 82. I wonder if this could be his old trunk? If so, how did it end up in Columbia, MO, where I recently purchased it at a thrift store? The trunk is in very good condition. As you can see in the photographs. It does show some wear from the age of it, but I think this only ads to the genuine patina(which cannot be faked) I suppose you could refinish the trunk, but I feel as though that would remove much of it's history. If this were my trunk I would have a piece of glass cut for the top and make it into a fantastic coffee table. I have a similar vintage trunk type coffee table in my own home, otherwise I might keep this one. I'm confident that this item will make for a very interesting addition to any collection. ANTIQUE EARLY 1800's LEATHER COVERED BRASS STUDDED WOOD BOX VINTAGE 19TH C. TRUNK A rare original. Early 1800's, small trunk or document box that is covered in leather and has brass studs. It has a lock in the front and a brass handle on the top. The inside of this trunk is what I love about it! There is the original paper lining with a printed man, in a top hat, riding a horse(of the period, see photo) The lid is held in place by the leather construction and there were never any hinges. This wonderful old trunk measures approximately 13" across x 6 1/2" wide x 5" tall(not including the brass handle) I have taken close up photos to show the condition. There is wear to the leather with one side missing most of it(see photo) The rest is crackled and may have a bit missing, here and there. It is missing some of the brass ... morestuds and the paper on the inside does show wear and tear. This old trunk is over 200 years old but is still mostly together! Antique 19th cen English Cedar Storage Chest Trunk
This is a really nice 19th cen English cedar chest or trunk. Great for storage and could be used by the base of a bed or as a coffee table. The overall condition is good however it does have some issues. It has a couple of cracks on top. One of the small corner brass straps on the side is missing and the joints in one corner are warped. However, the piece is extremely heavy, well constructed and firm. It is not loose or wobbly. It is very solid and firm. The imperfections do not compromise the look or the function. It is a great piece that with a little waxing would be beautiful. I have seen chests like this in the thousands of dollars. This one is from an estate liquidation and is reflected in the price. Early 19th C. Leather Trunk Box Rose head Nails Box Steamer
Rare& Beautiful early leather covered trunk with stylized brass studs. Late 18th/early 19th C. excellent condition for it's age. Latches in back are missing. Some losses to leather"skirt" which goes around top. Early rose head nail construction. Dimensions are approx 22" W x 11.5" H x 12" D. Shown next to a later 19th C trunk which recently sold on ebay.
