The trunk features a"cushion top" with a fold out hanger system with original hangers. The drawers are all there. As well as a piece that sits in the bottom drawer(see pictured photo) There is also a piece thats used to secure the hangers farther back that is pictured. The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. This late 1800's CHILD'S STEAMER TRUNK would have possibly held its' clothes and undoubtedly held its' familiar treasures which made it feel more comfortable on a long journey. Part of the travels of this trunk's owner would have been by sea as well as land. As evidenced by the many travel decals on the outside of the metal steamer trunk. From Egypt, Australia, Holland, etc. This child was a world traveler. The reinforced metal trunk measures 11 X 11 X 20 inches. Has four pull-out drawers and one side of the trunk is a place for coats and clothes, or possibly a favorite doll or bear. The trunk was produced by EDUCATIONAL PLAYTHINGS; their label is on the lock side of the trunk. The cloth covering of the interior of the trunk is faded, and contrasts with the brighter blue on the inside of the ... moredrawers. 1800's dome hump camel back steamer travel chest trunk alligator skin design
Thanks for looking at my listing. This sale is for a very unique piece of history. It's called a steamer trunk dome style from the 1800's. Made of wood and metal. Great craftsmanship, there is a ton of detail available on this trunk. It's beautiful, and features an alligator skin"cover" over the center portion of the trunk, as well as on the sides. There's still the original victorian picture on the inside, and the tray is there as well. The trunk is damaged on the left hinge, and it appears someone at some point tried to fix it, but the wood split. A beautiful piece to have and restore, or just keep it the way it is for history sake. I don't know much else about it, like the origin, or how many families it went through. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Up for sale is this beautiful restored large antique victorian roll top steamer trunk with key. It measures 35" long by 22 1/4" wide and 25" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. FREE SHIPPING TO THE 48 LOWER STATES USA. buy it now price includes shipping! Beautiful looking antique dome top trunk measuring approx. 36-1/2" wide x 20-1/2" x 23" tallest on the dome angle. These fancy dome top trunks were generally bridal trunks. This trunk was refinished at some point in its life having a very clean exterior finish that looks nice. The interior is super clean wood with no odors or uglies. Condition is as shown a solid trunk that has a lot of life left in it. Both leather handles are in place. The clip locks on each side of the front are in place and working to securely close the trunk. The lock plate does not have the tongue to lock the chest but we have no key so its best. The bottom of the trunk has NO rot or damages it is very clean as well. There are some fine separations in the thin refinished wood ... morethat covers the wooden body on the dome portion. This has a great look and is very usable. Picture it at the base of your bed, in your living room or next to your fireplace for kindling! So many things you could use this for in your home. Civil War Era Leather Deer Hide Skin Travel Trunk Stagecoach Chest Steamer Texas
This is a great old piece of folk art. I bought it from a lady who bought it at an antique store. She told me that it was Civil War era and that it is covered in Deer hide. She said that she lined it with fabric after she bought it. The leather is embossed with what makes me think of a Texas Star. Plus there are other decorative embossed accents. As you can see from the pictures some of the leather has come loose and it is ripped. Some is worn almost to the wood, on the back there are some water drip marks and as you can see plenty of inconsistency in color and wear. I do not know if the sides originally were covered but they are now exposed wood. Amazingly, the leather buckles are still intact and operational but it appears that a latch is missing front center. There are some exposed screws on the back where parts of the leather straps have ... moredeteriorated. A couple of rivets are missing. There be maybe other pieces missing, for example there are no handles on the sides. It opens and closes easily and seems to be a solid and sturdy structure. I think it is a fantastic decorator piece for a home, store or set, as well as a really cool piece of history. I cannot say I've ever seen another like it- especially with the embossed designs on the top. Genuine Antique Flat Top Steamer / Travel Trunk 2 Trays Storage Chest
Free local pick-up only. From a local M id S outh E state. this Antique Flat Top Steamer/ Travel TRUNK made between 1880 and 1920. After 1920. As trunks became mass-produced they were labeled with the"makers mark" Measures 36" length x 24 1/2" height x 21" width. This is a solid piece; all metal strapping, corner bindings& hardware is intact. The wood parts of the trunks structure are time worn but intact as well. The YALE lock is intact but there is no key. The two leather side carry straps have long since torn away- easy to replace with an old leather belt. Seldom found are the 2 interior trays that appear to be original to this piece. The top tray(photos#8& 9) has finger-hole lifts at each end; measures 33 1/2 length x 18" width x 4" depth. The tray flap-over lid is secured via 3 hinges on one ... moreside. The other would have been secured via the leather snap straps but again the leather has deteriorated away. The 2nd tray(photo#10) has what appears to be some sort of textile handle-straps to lift it out with; measures 35" length x 13 3/4" width x 7 1/2" deep. The interior of the trunk measures 19 1/2" overall depth. Understand that this truck is close to 100 years old and therefore smells old as well. Both the interior and the exterior of this trunk are genuinely time worn. A beautiful old aged piece as is or restore and make it your own. Antique Dome top Wood Metal Steamer travel Trunk CUNARD shipping labels 1800's
This sale is for a domed top wood travel steamer trunk from the 1800s. The trunk is sturdy and in good condition. The outside appears to be original and not refinished etc. It has the travel decals with dates and ports. It left from Wales England and arrived in Boston Mass in the usa. They traveled on A Cunard ship which apparently is still a company today. It has only one metal handle. The inside has been painted. It is large at approx. 33" long 22" wide and 24" tall. Exact age and origin unknown but believe to be from the 1800s referring to design and square nail construction. Possibly Civil War era. Wood body with original paper decorated exterior. Inside is also with original paper lining. On inside lid there are two hinge down doors where they would store dirty laundry. There are two different locks. One key included. Very unique and interesting design. Thanks for looking. SIZE: 25 1/2" high x 36" long x 17 1/4" deep CONDITION: Overall good used condition. Solid and sturdy. Shows appropriate use wear. Markings, soiling, minor paper loss and distressing. The back of the lid near the hinges has an age crack along the bottom edge- see pics and remains solid. Has two ... morelocks. One key included.
